Just like I thought the opinions are all over the place on this case!! Often times you guys are on the same page but with this one I understand why people feel so strongly about their own personal feelings. However please try to keep it kind when interacting with other subscribers and reading THEIR opinions. It’s okay to think differently than others.

@@teneshalulu2482 As a nurse, I guarantee that it does happen, particularly to young women whose periods are often very irregular. This happens even more often with a severe eating disorder. And believe me when I say that just having to deal with an insidious eating disorder, especially at a pretty young age, is punishment enough- even if you are blessed with loving, supportive parents. The level of self-hatred it requires to starve your body nearly to death is immeasurable. And severe, chronic EDs tend to stunt your emotional growth at around the age it began. You're not working with a healthy brain. I speak from experience, both as a nurse and as a patient. I've been battling anorexia since the age of 11, and I am 50 now. Every single person struggling with an ED in my years of impatient treatment programs had pretty serious childhood trauma- without exception. Even with my professional background, it took organ failure and hypovolemic shock to give me the strength to recover. Amen to that. I'm so grateful that despite my parents being conservative and Christian, they were also incredibly realistic and understanding. I even talked to my mom at age 17 and told her i was considering having sex with my long term bf. She said she'd rather me wait til I was married, but that she understood. Fast forward a week and I was a at home crying when my mom got home. I told her I didn't want to talk about it and she said it couldn't be any worse than what she assumed I was crying about. So I told her I lost my virginity. She was immediately understanding and said she had been talking to a coworker and that she had recommended I go to Planned Parenthood. All this to say she never judged me or made feel bad. And I could contrast this with my best friends parents, who were also conservative, devout Christians. They made it clear that if they found out their daughter was having sex they'd kick her out of the house. You can imagine my friend didn't tell her parents anything. I think my parents reaction just goes to show that you can hold certain values and want your kids to have them to, and also understand when they "mess up" or don't follow their guidelines like they want you to.

Alana Batista most babies aren’t born with fluid in their lungs to the point where they have to suction, bc on the way out of the birth canal they are squeezed so tightly that they eject most of the fluid. My daughter wasn’t suctioned, I don’t know of any natural birth babies that were suctioned unless it was an extremely quick birth. Suctioning after birth is more of a c section thing.
I think the baby could’ve been still born but also I have no doubt that if she was born alive the family would’ve killed her anyways. She could’ve drowned if she did actually give birth birth in the toilet like she says. They may have just left her there. So sad.

Having one parent that was so overbearing and a step parent that was also worried about perfection, I totally understand why Skyler didn't go to her family about being pregnant. I only gained about 15lbs with my second baby and lost almost all of it when he was born, so only 15 lbs does not explain why the baby would have been still born. The eating disorder, however, does and it happens in a second, so just because there was a heartbeat 10 days before birth does not mean a thing. I do believe Skyler should have received more than probation, but her sentence should have been served in a mental hospital where she could have gotten the help she needs and gotten away from her overbearing parents. She needs to get away from them to learn how to be independent and make decisions on her own without having to worry about setting her parents off. I fear that's what happened over and over as she grew up and why she has such a severe eating disorder. What she put into her mouth is the only thing she had control over.

Multiple doctors examined the baby and said it was likely a stillbirth. The chord was very thin, and she had an eating disorder which means it got very little nutrition. She was obviously just a teenager who was scared shitless and already had her share of mental issues (looking at her mother's behavior it's no wonder). No, she wasn't "normal" and her behavior wasn't "normal".
Everyone likes to think they would have done differently in the same situation but you have no idea what it was like to be in her head. You're saying that from the standpoint of being yourself, right now.

A 48 hours interview showed her parents taking about how brave and courageous Skylar was, but they just seemed to skim over Annabelle. Like she was just a thing in the situation but that it was all about Skylar. That hurt me, i felt like there were no emotions for Annabelle and that was enough for me to see that she and her family were not people that seemed good.

I think that whether or not it was the right choice, the doctors had to have picked up on the girls panic and terror about finding out she's pregnant, and wanted to just get the birth control to appease the mom in the meantime since she wasn't mentally prepared to tell her in the car ride home, which is understandable imo. I'm guessing they made her give them her word that she wasn't going to use BC until after the baby was born, but there WERE alarm bells raised as the doctors did call the police weeks later.

She didn't get the nutrition she needed, nor her or her baby had it, so the baby was in a weak state. Then it was born in a bathroom.. she could've suffocated during birth, as Skylar barely knew proper birth techniques. The possibilities of it being stillborn, are actually a lot!

      @misselli6903 3 ปีที่แล้ว +64

@@isabellaa8773 This very much likely to have been the case. Watch the trial on Law&Crime Network. On day 5 they interviewed the gynecologist Dr. John White as a witness. He explained that due to her malnourishment the fetus supposably suffered from lack of nutrition and was small for the week of gravity. In other words the baby starved to death inside her womb. The OBgyn she visited did take an ultrasound and could identify a heartbeat of the baby. But this was only a very brief ultrasound just to confirm the pregnancy, he did not do a thorough check-up of the babys overall health. Dr. White said, the heartbeat is the last thing that stops, but the baby could have been in serious distress and danger before. The next point that indicates that the baby was stillborn is the fact, that although she had cramps and labour pain, she did not have to push, the baby simply 'fell out', the umbilical cord detached. She did not have to cut the cord. Dr. White said this happens when the cord is very thin and fragile, and such a thin and fragile cord is not able to nourish the baby anymore. Also when she was asked about the afterbirth, she said there was none. This indicates that the placenta was already dead and small. There is no way you can oversee a healthy placenta, because it is suprisingly big and the mother would normally have to push it out with one or more pushes.
I think all these points together indicate very strongly to Skylars version that the baby was stillborn. She also said it did not breathe, did not move, had eyes closed and the body was white. Only when the police investigators started to mess her memory up with questions like: Are you sure she did not move, not even a little? She looked at them confused and whispered, may be a little....

@@stephaniemitchell8509 No, this is not proof. The doctor told her she is 32 weeks pregnant and the baby was due in about ten weeks. So she obviously must have thought she had some time to figure everything out. She clearly stated, she did not want to have the baby and raise it. But this does not allow the conclusion that she planned to 'kill' it. The doctor wanted her to come back for a follow up appointment in couple of days. Then he wanted to talk options through with her, like give the baby up for adoption. There was also a possibility she would change her mind and would come to the point to tell her parents and even maybe to keep the child. For a teenage mum with an unplanned pregnancy it takes some time to process the news and think it through. Nobody knew that she was already in week 39 and expected that she would give birth only ten days later, not even the doctor.

The baby was already fully developed when she was given birth control. Birth control just makes your body think hormonally its already pregnant. Its most likely that the birth control did nothing to the child and it was instead Skylar sabotaging the pregnancy

Its less of the pills helping and the neglected of the doctor by giving her the pills instead of prenatal and being convinced that she didnt need the prenatal and the birth control was to appease her mother. He has a duty to that child as well since that is also his patient and didn't help her at all

I watched the trial on youtube. They said Skylar convinced him to give her the prescription so that her Mom wouldn't be suspicious. They were at the OB to get birth control and her Mom was in the waiting room, she couldn't not get it. The doctor said he would give it to her but didn't want her to fill it, and he would be watching to see if it was filled at a pharmacy, which I'm pretty sure it was. Maybe that's part of what made the Doctor on high alart.

If you’ve given birth and don’t want the baby and/or can’t go to the hospital, you can go to the fire department or the ER and hand the child off to the staff. It’s a confidential process and is designed to prevent situations like this specifically.

I actually had seen her & her father in a local park as she waited for the verdict. She was so little, pale & frail. My heart felt exactly as you had said. What this child had endured alone. My theory:
I think Skyler tried all she could to abort the baby herself, when she heard she was pregnant. I believe the baby came out still born, due to Skyler trying to abort the baby. Skyler has such an unhealthy relationship with her family. It's made very clear how unwanted the child was, and how secretive Skyler wanted to be. They all need psychiatric help. This story is very upsetting.

Candy candy cotton candy Cotton candy uh yeah because abortion isn’t murder. Late term abortion only happens when the mother is at risk. Any other abortion is preformed on the underdeveloped fetus. If it cannot survive outside the womb, it’s not a viable life. The lungs don’t function when abortion is preforms. The brain doesn’t function when abortion is preformed. A heartbeat is NOT sign of life. An adult can be completely brain dead on life support with a heartbeat and they are still considered dead. You can disagree all you want but you’re still wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I agree with you.. 3 years probation is not enough. The way I feel is that her mom's "perfect life" image has been drilled into her head so much so that she probably always wanted to be the favorite kid. I also feel like she must have been trying so hard to please her mother.. I also find the lack of genuine warmth in the hug that her mother gives her [in the interrogation clip]. May be I'm reaching,, but, it feels like the mother was trying hard to contain her irritation while hugging her daughter half-heartedly.. Her father says, " you could have told us" or something to that effect. At least he is saying something soothing. I have a very icky feeling about this.

Tbh I agree that she shouldn't have gotten much of a sentence, and only really should be convicted of the abuse of a corpse. Her mom clearly knew and should be in a lot more trouble for endangering the life of her daughter and her potential grandchild, Brooke was a scared kid and her mom wasn't there for her, basically threatened her about it, and encouraged her eating disorder.
I also have a hard time believing she gave birth totally alone in the bathroom, and no one knew. It all is just a little suspicious claiming the family didn't know.

  • @cathysmiley1938

This is such a tragedy. I’ve known people with eating disorders. There are a variety of causes that influence eating disorders. The pressure put on children to get great grades, excel at extra curricular activities, etc can definitely lead to eating disorders; eating is the one thing they can control. This poor girl must have been terrified. Certainly there is no way to know for sure if the child was still borne or not. We should learn from this case to be sensitive to our children and not over pressure them and keep open lines of communication. We should be the safe haven for our children.
