Meaning of You have become a really meaningful song for IU and Uaenas. This is a crowd favorite too in her concert tours outside Korea since it's like a duet song between IU and Uaena. This makes it a song international Uaenas must know though as far as IU had been touring, from Asia-Europe-US, the crowd always sing along to this song that even IU was surprised and touched everytime since international Uaenas always sing almost as loudly and beautifully like how K-Uaenas sing it too. TMI: IU loves old songs and Flower Bookmark which is her remake album are all songs that she love. Iirc, her loving older songs are influenced by her grandmother or father who also loves music. This is her fist remake album, Flower Bookmark 1 and in 2017 she released Flower Bookmark 2. This remake albums actually made her get love and adoration across generations. She's already loved by younger fans but with this remakes, she also gathered and established her presence among older listeners. I'm still waiting for Flower Bookmark 3😢.
@@SylverReacts she would release a flower bookmark 2 in 2017. For this album, pls include "with determined heart to forget you" in your reactionas well, bcs its a legend. That song should be title track of AFB 2, but removed bcs of a sad situation. It even has proper live and mv.
I like the term "remake" more than "cover" because she completely changes the vibe and feel of the songs to fit a more modern "IU" style. Pierrot Laughs At Us, for example, sounds almost unrecognizable from the original.
Also, that choice of Pierrot song is quite eerily beautiful. Pls search this to confirm : Kim Wan Sun (original singer of Pierrot Laugh at Us) also a former kmusic queen, was born in May 16th, same as iu bday, and also sama date as A flower bookmark release date, May 16th 2014. 😅😅
personally, i feel that meaning of you is such an important song in her setlist more so because it was a remake. imagine her world tour this time, at any country that is outside of Korea, all her fans could sing along with this song that was originally released in 1984.
Not gonna lie, as a long time fan, at Oakland I almost cried when she started doing Meaning of You and the first part when the audience sang their part and it was surprisingly quite coherent and loud considering that the original song is 40 years old and she released the remake 10 years ago, the fact that people of every demographic were singing along together to this song was amazing and I thought I'd never get to see the day an audience in the US would sing along to a Korean song full on.
The album Flower Bookmark, released on IU's birthday (May 16), received the highest reviews and praise upon release, once again affirming the value of her name and outstanding musical talent. Immediately after releasing the album Flower Bookmark, IU held a small concert at the theater for the first time. IU transferred all proceeds from the concert to the families of the Sewol ferry victims. (The Sewol ferry capsizing left more than 304 people dead and 9 missing - becoming the most serious accident in Korean maritime history.)
Hi and thank you again. This is not related to the music of this album, but its useful in understanding her. In 2014 the Sewol ferry disaster took more than 300 souls. IU was promoting this album with a tour of 7 dates. She donated all of her proceedings of the whole tour to the victim's families. She later composed a song dedicated to those victims but it's from another album. IU was big then but not as wealthy as she is today yet, she didn't hesitated in doing this. I know you react to the artist and her performance, but behind is Lee Ji Eun the person. This and other gestures plus of course her talent is why recently in a Gallup nationwide poll in Korea when asked who the most beloved singer of the 21st century is, 48% responded IU and the rest went to 9 other idols, including singers from BTS, Girls generation, Big bang, XO and Psy (the rapper), by age IU got 59 percent among 19-29, 48 percent among those in their 30s, 47 percent in their 40s, 49 percent in their 50s, and 40 percent in their 60s. By gender male 51% and female 46% So everyone loves IU Even kids from 13 to 18 have her at the top. 💜
If you gonna react to A FLOWER BOOKMARK 2, please include this song "With the heart to forget you". th-cam.com/video/ZXmoJu81e6A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LMQvb9OES0IAUU5O
After modern time she started to do music most of her own choice. A flower bookmark is highly loved work of her in korea. My old story is my favourite song in this album I can't help but cry whenever I see her live clip from knowing brothers. It is may be because when I started to know her (during hotel del luna) this clip and through the night clip were the clips that made me aware of her as a musician. By the way her interaction with j hope is on her chat show palette where other artists came to promote their music. They covers songs of each other.
I find this very interesting: the first time I listened to each of IU's albums, I immediately understood which were my favorite songs (in this case, "Meaning of You") and which were a little less... But as the years went by, I started to grow fond of tracks that I didn't imagine, and now asking myself to choose a favorite would be cruel to my heart 😅... Even the last track, which hadn't particularly impressed me, is now absolutely a "no-skippin track" (as practically all of IU's songs are... because unfortunately I can't help but skip "Uncle", sometimes 😅)
For my favorite song as a remake song by IU is "Sleepless Rainy Night" th-cam.com/video/m7mvpe1fVa4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PUi_tyQi9EoO09-l I don't know whether this is a part of the album here or not.
A flower bookmark (AFB) is a big underrated cultural move in kmusic. Imagine Taylor Swift in her 2009/ 2010 ish fame, decided to remake 80's hits of Barbara Streisand, Queen, and Air Supply., but STILL succeed and hits #1's !!!! (meaning of you is hugely popular, like super popular, and she got Artist of The Year daesang Melon Music Award in 2014, YES... with Friday, Not Spring love and Cb + Remake Album of 80-90 songs 😂😂) Also, AFB is not just a gimmick : iu is constantly showing love for oldies hits since her early days in 2009'ish, when she covered old songs in radio or in lives. Bcs of this AFB, she got fans from all across age range, from teens to 50's or even 60's years old 😊
Because of this album, IU Nicknamed the golden bridge between generations
I can totally see that!

I love that, Uaena just out here being super wholesome

Fair enough! She clearly puts her own stamp on it!

IU is a special artist ❤
Forgot how much I love her song, Flower… thank you for these great IU videos!

The same happened in Berlin! It was so overwhelming 😍

I have a habit of saying 'mid-career IU is the best IU' and in my mind Flower Bookmark marks the start of her mid-career period.

The senior singer in 'the meaning of you' had transitioned to being a character actor. I've seen him in perhaps a dozen dramas going back years.
Oh that's cool! I'll have to keep an eye out as I watch more dramas

I was looking forward to one song in specific but it didnt make the cut i guess ("Last Night Story"). It also have a fun MV :(
That's on A Flower Bookmark 2, coming later this week!
did you also listen to the original songs?
You will be surprised if you listen to the original songs 😂
