    "Do they not tell the tortoise and the hare story in Greece?"
    Ironically that is one of the stories that Kratos tells his son in GOW4 before we pick up Mimir. Kratos implies that he knew Aseop personally and heard the stories first hand! So to answer your question, yes! 🙂

    One thing a lot of people miss in GOW3 is when Kratos took the soul of Hades, he did NOT release it (he can't) when he stabbed himself. Its the entire reason why he survived the impalement at the end. He is no longer the God of War, he became the God of Death. This is why he is going to be the bringer of Ragnarok. Even the developers confirmed that he is cursed to roam the lands for eternity because he is unkillable. And if you really think about it, Hades was unkillable too. The only reason you defeated him is BECAUSE you took his soul. If not for that, he would have survived and kept coming back. Kratos, in his blind rage, did not realize that he basically doomed himself by stealing his soul.

    • @mrx9540
      @mrx9540 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iirc, one of the developers stated Kratos no longer holds Hades Soul since he doesn't have the Hades Claws, which means Hades soul was free
      Also, wasn't the whole God of Death thing something that was implied in the end of Ghost of Sparta, after Kratos kills Thanatos?

    • @Gojira_Wins
      @Gojira_Wins 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrx9540 By that logic, Hades should have lost all of the souls inside his body after having the blades stolen from him by Kratos. However, that was not the case because those blades were only tools to take Hades soul. Once the soul is bound to someone, you can't just let it go like you're holding a breath.
      More evidence to back this up includes the fact that Kratos was told to never cross the bridge of the damned in GoW4 yet he does anyways and with ease. Mimir talks about how cold it is in Helhiem but Kratos not once acknowledges the fact that it's cold because to him, it's not. Hades soul in the 3rd game allowed him to travel the River Stix because the God of the Underworld is unaffected by Hell or it's afflictions.
      The soul, like previously mentioned, is preventing Kratos from ever actually dying, even by his own hand. If he did let the soul go, he would have died from impaling himself on the Sword of Olympus just like the other time he was impaled on it. Kratos was not immortal, even as a god, until he took Hades soul.
      And no, I don't remember the Devs ever saying he let it go. Everyone has this weird misconception that he did let it go when he really didn't. I remember the Devs talk about how Kratos took Hades soul in anger but didn't realize how big of a mistake it was until it was too late. He cursed himself to get revenge.
      I'm doing some background research to back this up so if I find anything, I'll update you.

    The whole Poseidon water horse thing may seem super weird until you dig into the much more ancient Greek mythology. Originally, Poseidon was the main god and he was a god of horses, earth quakes and the underworld. Also, in Greek mythology just like Cronus took out Uranus and Zeus took out Cronus, Zeus was supposed to be taken out by one of his sons too. He was supposed to be killed by the son of Metis who is Athena's mother yet that never happened. Athena is Kratos' half sister which is why he took out Zeus and why Zeus tried to get rid of him, they really did their research for this game. Minus the fact that Hades really isn't that bad a guy and the worst thing he did was kidnap Persephone his wife but compared to his brothers he wasn't a rapist.

He's one of the few Gods I'd wager Kratos feels bad for killing, but completely understands his reasoning. Kratos threatened his daughter, and Hephaestus did what any father would do, try and stop his killer. Kratos even comments on it afterwards. It's such a good little moment that speaks volumes about how Kratos views fatherhood as well.

    What I did like about GoW3 was what it revealed towards the end. The revelation that Kratos is responsible for all of his own misery. When he opened the box way back in GoW1 he released all the evils of the Titans out into the world. They latched onto the Olympians and caused them to be evil, thus ensuring his further suffering. Now this isn't to say that Zeus and Co weren't always dicks. One only needs to look at any Greek myth to see that plain as day. However without those evils than they wouldn't have been so murderous towards Kratos, likely just leaving him alone for the most part.

    For example:
    Zeus is voiced by Corey Burton (who actually voiced him in Disney's Hercules)
    Poseidon is voiced by Gideon Emery
    Hades is voiced by Clancy Brown
    Helios is voiced by Crispin Freeman (who has done some voice work in the spin-off GoW games)
    Hephaestus is voiced by Rip Torn
    Hermes is actually voiced by Greg Ellis, not Adrienne Barbeau (she is the voice of Hera)

    It's my favorite gaming franchise, have platinum all with the exception of Ascension the only that I didn't like that much to play multiple times. I really don't have a preference. I think they had the perfect approach for Greek mythology, a mythology more focused on characters archetypes that places. Having a really focused and simple narrative of Greek tragedy and vengeance, that made a conscious effort given the hardware limitations of the time in telling a fulfilling story in a action game removing as little control of the player hand as possible (the reason to use QTE in boss finishes instead of letting the character do the finish alone in the cutscenes like game like Devil May Cry did). It was the perfect action game from the PS2 era, that got a excellent finish on the PS3.
    That being said 7 games with fundamentally the same mechanic got me burnout in ascension. I wanted a change in direction but one that honored what came before. They did that with 4, it has the same elements but mixed a bit the proportion of it on the product. The focus on a more intimate narrative and in a "journey" was a good fit with Norse mythology that is a mythology much more about places (the realms) than people (people are important too, but not like the Greek mythology). Also the tech today allows for "interactive cutscenes" in a much more organic way than could be done on the PS2. So they can have as much dialog as Metal Gear but you don't need to put the control down for 10 minutes or more at a time. Video-game will always be a medium that change with the new options afforded by evolution in technology.

You might not think of it but Pandora's box has many more evils then Rage and Fear there is : Lust (went to Aphrodite), Greed(to Athena cus she wanted/led kratos to kill all the gods and take the power of hope), Gluttony(Went to Hera),This is ironic but the evil Sloth went to Hermes but it makes sense cus he kinda gives up mid fight and lets himself be killed by kratos and the final evil was ENVY that went to Hercules(makes sense) PHEW ALL DONE HERE PLEASE SEE THIS OR I JUST WASTED MY TIME.

      Not really, the omphalos stone was in his digestive tract, not his kidney. To get to Cronos' kidneys (which i don't think he has because, well, he lacks a pp) Kratos would've had to take a different path, through his aorta (or inferior vena cava) and then the renal arteries (or veins).
      Besides, i think the omphalos stone is the stone Rhea gave Cronos so that he didn't notice Zeus was taken into hiding, so, nope, not a kidney stone. Interesting concept though.

    With Gia asking Kratos "do I mean nothing to you?", did she really think/expect Kratos to easily forget/forgive/brush off what she did/say to him earlier? I mean, what she says to him before disposing him, I don't think that someone like Kratos would forget/forgive/brush off that easily, even I picked up on that months ago when I played the game for the one time I played the game. Also, with 18:15 I never picked up on the idea that that tune you play is the God of War theme. Also, huge pain in the rear for me to do, it took me probably more then 5 Times to do. Edit: also, the thing with the fixed camera and some hating it, while it is true that I do hate the fixed camera, but, there are are times in the 2018 game that I wish there 'was' a fixed camera or an option to switch it to a fixed camera, Because, frankly, there are times that the user movable camera gets to the point where it becomes a huge pain in the rear. Edit: ok, looking back on this video, I had a thought, the model that the game developers used for pandora, I'm not saying she looks ugly, but in My perspective/opinion, the model really doesn't look good nor did it age well at all. Edit: ok, coming back on this video roughly 4 or more months later and noticing the dead pool reference mentioned by the narrator, I do think that Kratos is just this games version of Kenny from South park, where Kratos dies and comes back later angrier. Edit: with what I mentioned about with the option to switch the camera in the God of War 4 (or maybe 7 depending on how many games you count in between God of War 3 and the 2018 revision) was that I wish that there a setting that allowed you to toggle between locked on and user rotatable camera, because in certain instances such as fights, I definitely wish that that option existed. Edit: 7:02 I never even noticed that ares was there. Edit: of coming back to this video again, with what I said about Gias line about "do i mean nothing to you?", i think when Gia said to Kratos about him just being a simple pawn and nothing more, that and I think at that point Kratos realized his mistake about bringing all the titans back from the past and that Gia quickly betrayed him and put him on the back burner in terms of priorities really got to him. Also, with what the narrator said about the fixed camera and what I also mentioned, at times in the 4th 2018 game, I do wish that there was a in menu toggle option to switch the camera from being a 360 user-controlled camera to a fixed camera on the fly, because I ended up finding myself fighting with the camera at times, more so in fights/battles where the player has to focus on the fight and not fight with the camera as well. Edit: 13:17 ha ha☺️, good point. Edit: 20:50 I think I killed a few birds in the video clip you provided failing to understand what I was supposed to do using the blades.

    There are too many franchises out there that poise themselves as mature or dark, but ultimately will cower in fear of a higher ESRB rating and end up looking pathetic. GoW4 managed to retain some degree of "real one" vibes, but ultimately it yielded on the sex department.

      IMO I think it's because younger Kratos was a unique character. He went from a traumitized kid who failed to prevent the kidnapping of his brother to a great warrior who swore to never lose a battle in his brother's name and was actually a really good dad and a husband to then becoming a depressed servent of the gods after he was tricked into killing his family and even had to abandon his daughter a 2nd time in order to save her soul, then transitioned into a vengeful spartan after he found his mother and brother only to lose them again and after the events of GOWIII, he tried to find forgivness for his actions and redeem himself
