I've used Kunaki for vinyl - good quality covers. But now they've changed 'edge printing' which means highly visible (on dark covers) and ugly white edging on the edges of covers. I now use Beevinyl - more expensive, but high quality cover and audio. As for CDs, I found Kunaki to be poor - artwork darker and less vibrant, and they don' have the option for tray inside image. I use CD-Click for CDs.
A couple things, I had no idea a service this cheap existed. 1. The run time is dictated by the volume the record is cut at (louder music takes more space) and whether a computer is being used to control the rate of advance. With a computer pre-sampling the waveform, it can decide how close the grooves can be placed on a continuous basis. 2. Is this a one-off lathe cut record (not made in a press)? Then how did it get warped unless it just got hot in shipping?
Thanks for the video! I've been thinking about using them to put some old demo cassettes on vinyl, which is already not great quality, so wouldn't mind some crackles. I also know a little bit about vinyl mastering, so we'll see how it's gonna turn out.
I'm curious, so seeing as its warped that's entirely fixable right? put it flat in-between some books inside the gatefold and it should be alright surely?
Say, do you know a similar site that does 45's? I want to get a record of my papa's 2 favorite songs on a single, But it appears Kunaki doesn't do that. Exelent video; Verry helpfull to a begginer like me!
I've uploaded a project to Kunaki but at the end of the process I found out they don't ship to Brazil... such a shame... any other good site to recomend?
I have got MANY CDs from Kunaki and all were perfect, I got one vinyl and it sounded like the album was recorded in a wind tunnel but the sample post upload was flawless. VERY UNHAPPY!
It sounded like there was a lot of wow and flutter in the playback, like everything was going through a tremolo pedal, at a frequency much higher than you’d expect from the warping of the record. Was that sound in the original music, or is that something that your record player normally causes?
Question?? I’m fairly new to vinyl collecting and just ordered The River by Bruce Springsteen, it comes with two specially made inner sleeves with pictures on them, made with thicker paper (if you look it up on google you should see what I’m talking about), anyway it also comes with the standard thin paper sleeves as well. How should I store this? Should I put the record in the thin sleeves and then that inside the thick sleeves or just throw away the thin paper sleeves and just put the record in the thick custom sleeves?
I have utopia by Travis Scott on vinyl, and they come with the same picture sleeves you got, and I just store them in there, in my opinion it’s the best way to go with unless the paper sleeves come with plastic inside of them
I want to make a mixtape cd but some of the tracks are cut a few seconds in the beginning. Is that common? I already tried setting the thing up again and the audio files are fine
Was gonna place an order through them but I couldn't find any info on on the spine. I didn't see an option to get the artist or release name on the spine so I'm assuming it's just a solid color and it's blank? Small annoyance of mine is when records have nothing written there. Is that true?
gaps are made the way you want. If you place silence between tracks. Then yes gaps will be there. Kunaki does not mess with anything. How ever you produced it. Is the way it will come out. But, with lathe cut vinyl this is not the case. Not with them anyways. Other services that are more expensive. Usually will try to adjust your audio files before cutting it into the lathe cut so the needle wont jump or skip. during play back. But with kunaki cd's no worries. Everything comes out exactly as you produced it.
Everything they do is manufactured on demand, so they are all recordable formats- lathe cut LPs, cd-rs, dvd-rs, and bd-rs. You can’t press a single copy of any of those media.
I don't care if vinyl records outsell CDs. If people have got the money to throw away, that's their business. I'll always buy CDs and casettes. I've learned not to get fooled with my money. Remember 8-track tapes? Now that was a really big ripoff.
Actually CD's are picking up on sales lately. Yep, vinyl is cool. But good God man! The prices. CD's always sound great. You don't have to buy an expensive device to make them sound better. I watched some dude on here buy a $1,200 turntable just so he could get better sound quality from his records. Like f*ck that! Now I see why folks are slowing going back to CD's.
I used to get my CDs through Kunaki all the time. They always did a great job.
I'd hope so! CDs are way easier lol
@@TooManyRecords Oh definitely I just mean that their packaging and presentation was always very slick
im thinking of getting a cd from them, should i?
I want to get a CD send me the link
I laughed out loud when you noticed how warped it was
Thanks for doing this, I've been wanting to try something like this for a while, with the level of effort you described.
I think it’s certainly worthy of an experiment.

Going to check out both!

Interesting stuff! Thanks for that info. And yeah, no idea how it got THAT warped...
Overall, this might be a great way for repair/product review people to make TH-cam-friendly records to use in their videos.
I might have to try this. I've been wanting to get a lathe cut of my own music for a while.
Fair play to Kunaki that they sent a replacement. Was that ok ? Like you said $43 isn’t bad at all, especially if it sounds ok too !
Yeah I'm stoked they're sending a replacement without much hassle. It hasn't arrived yet.
@@TooManyRecords Any update on this?
@@cough5431 arrived and was totally flat!
Very cool, Matt! So sorry it arrived warped though. Use for novelty or a gift is the way to go!
i have made about 10 and no warps. i think he might have ordered it during the extreme wave we had. that might have added to the warp.
I want to press a cheap run of 20 do you know any others that do custom pressings? - cheers from Australia great vid man
“Im excited… in a way… I guess” 😂

My vinyl was made with kunaki good service indeed
Give us the history of that Jackson guitar in the gig bag… in the corner.
It's my girlfriend's guitar :)
I'm curious, so seeing as its warped that's entirely fixable right? put it flat in-between some books inside the gatefold and it should be alright surely?
Fun, I want to order one! Hopefully they replace warped records and no cost.
Yeah no cost replacement en route!

It's a shame about the warp, but still pretty impressive for a lathe cut.
Thankfully they're replacing!
Sufjan Stevens vibes right there. Lathe cuts can sound super bad, usually do, so this is a win...except for the warping
I've uploaded a project to Kunaki but at the end of the process I found out they don't ship to Brazil... such a shame... any other good site to recomend?
Damn Matt, why you gotta leak secrets like this lol. Look into learning how to remaster for vinyl, will change the lathe game.
That more warped than my imagination!
i use them all the time, and I usually cut them using a mono file
does mono file vs stereo greatly imrprove the sound in your experience?
I think it does. it makes them sound less noise
@@fis3685
@@fis3685 I am guessing he is a dj. A lot of club soundsystems are mono, for a bunch of reasons, phase being one of them.

I am curious about licensing and such. Thoughts?
I don't think this company cares in the slightest
Did the other vinyl have a warped texture too or nah? Maybe that one was a dud or something

Have a link to your friends Bandcamp page? Or a good place to support his music?
dylancampbell.bandcamp.com/music
You can find his records on Discogs sometimes (or in my FB group sometimes people sell) but they're sold out.
Please give an update with the replacement. Wondering if they can do a vinyl unwarped lol
I'm sure the warping was a fluke.
I want to make a mixtape cd but some of the tracks are cut a few seconds in the beginning. Is that common? I already tried setting the thing up again and the audio files are fine
Eeeek. Yeah, that warping...yikes. Otherwise though, great deal!
I made a vinyl and for some reason whenever i try to order it it says that its unavailable. Do you know how I can fix this?
This is so interesting. Great video.
5:27 😂😂😂

As I mentioned in the video, there's no spine which is a big bummer, but an included full color jacket is super nice regardless.
Do you have the Kumasi websites link? I want to try them too
does Kunaki have gaps between songs or does it just go to the next songs no cuts

It would definitely be cool to get a vinyl copy of a demo a band I was in did years ago. Thanks for the review 👍
Definitely a good use case for it!
I have an Eric Clapton 45 that is warped
Def got a wobble to it during play.
Understatement.
They do also blyrays, dvds, and CDs... They can't be real CD's for that price, or are they CD-Rs?
If you watch other videos they are real CDs

They are CD-R's. Not pressed. But still sound good. I've used them for over 10 years now.
Dude. The warp is ok but the music is..didn't hear the artist, way, not so good to my ears anyway.
I was waiting for John Belushi to run in and smash a guitar 😮😊
