Welcome to Lazy Daze Media's NEW video in the new 'Reaction' video series!
On this video Stacy & Ryan will be reacting to:
    THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980)
    Dir. John Landis
    NOTE FROM RYAN:
This is a favorite of mine!! One of the most feel-good movies of all time (in my opinion)
Stacy has NOT seen this at all! (she is also a big fan of all the musicians in the film so she's in for a treat)
    I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY!

Hey guys! Thank you for being so patient!
Stacy and I just made a move to another state and on top of that have been running into MAJOR complications with Universal Studios copyrights (hints some classic scenes being cut)
    Hope you guys Enjoy!
(We are still finishing the Rambo series and RoboCop soon!)
Also, I know I muffed up during the video 😅I was totally thinking Three Amigos directed by John Landis NOT The Jerk (directed by the great Carl Reiner)
if you caught it you caught it ahaha 😅

Anyway, you are such a sweet couple with such a kind energy (and I love your dancing pup!). Thanks for your video! I lived in Joliet at the time. For years afterwards you could see trashed cop cars at an auto junkyard just off the highway. I had actually shopped at that mall. I've been to that prison. One of my teachers was an extra on the film. So for me it's more than a feelgood movie - its a part of my childhood.

I love how they’d just shut that mall down, but then they completely restored it just so they could totally trash it. And the craziest thing is that, after that, the mall stood abandoned and in ruins for almost 40 years until they finally tore it down just a few years ago. I wish I’d at least driven by that place before they cleared it away. I mean, I only live about 45 minutes from where it used to stand, so I don’t know why I never did.

During the filming of the mall scene while they were using stunt drivers, John Belushi "went missing" for a period of time. They noticed when it was time to use the actors of course. Aykroyd and Landis didn't find him in his trailer or anywhere else on set. Aykroyd and Landis went looking for him, went outside and looked around. They noticed, in a near by neighborhood (at 3AM), that there was one house that had it's lights on, so they decided to go knock on the door, thinking it would be a long shot. When they explained that they were shooting a movie down the road and one of the actors was missing, the man who came to the door asked "Is it John Belushi?" Aykroyd and Landis of course confirmed that it was Belushi they were looking for. The man explained that he was sitting in his living room watching TV, and suddenly John Belushi opened the door, walked in, said hi, went to the kitchen and raided the fridge to make a sandwhich....then simply crashed out on the man's couch.
They woke Belushi up to go back to work, and apologized to the man for the inconvenience. That incident prompted Aykroyd to give Belushi the nick-name "America's Guest".

A few interesting tid bits for you about this movie. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were both cast members of SNL but left after the 1979 season to start working on the Blue Brothers movie. Aykroyd reportedly churned out a 300+ page script for the movie which John Landis promptly decided to rewrite and considerably shorten. The Car chase and wrecks were one of the most expensive at the time. One of the waiters at the fancy restaurant was a young Paul Rubens ( Pee Wee Herman ) the cook county clerk near the end was a short cameo by Steven Spielberg and finally John Landis used a helicopter to actually drop a ford pinto from about 1200 ft.

The band members were all established, well respected studio musicians who have recorded will all kinds of artists. Steve Cropper, Matt Murphy, Donald 'Duck' Dunn, were all well known in the music community.
Another great movie with a great soundtrack is O Brother Where Art Thou. Definitely worth watching.

So much love for this film! Saw it in the theaters in the summer of my 14th year. At my Catholic high school that fall, our Homecoming theme was “We’re on a mission from God.”
I grew up in Joliet, where they filmed the prison scene at the beginning in the Collins Street prison. (Joliet had two prisons plus a juvenile detention facility at the time, and the women’s prison had moved from there downstate a few decades earlier.) The shorter guard there was played by my college drama professor, Father Walling, a Jesuit priest. And one of my college roommates’ father was a Mt. Prospect cop whose old police car was one of the Bluesmobiles.

The guy at the beginning at the prison checking thru Belushi's belongings was Frank Oz, a noted director (Little Shop of Horrors, Dark Crystal, etc) and puppeteer - responsible for many of the muppet performances and voices, and for Yoda. The guy at the end (the clerk in the Chicago government building where the army shows up and points guns at them) is Spielberg. So the onscreen talent on this one is crazy, and it's not just the musicians or the random comic performers (Henry Gibson, John Candy) or actors (Carrie Fisher).
I will say tho that it should not be lost on anyone that even in a musical comedy extravaganza set in Chicagoland in the early 1980s, still the Jewish director and screenwriters managed to use N@zis as the villains. Truly impressive. I'm sure they could set a movie in the prehistoric past and somehow find a way to get them in there. Surprised Jurassic Park didn't have N@zi dinosaurs.

@Lazy Daze Media: Ah, yes! - 1980 - what a year for comedy movies. Of course, the movie you just reacted to - 'The Blues Brothers,' was released in 1980. But also - you should watch, and react to, the following also-released-in-1980 movies:
    1) 'Airplane!' - brilliant, fast paced, hilarious, spoof of the airline-in-flight-in-jeopardy film genre [ especially 'Zero Hour!' ( 1957 ) - 'Airplane!' borrowed much of the dialogue from this movie and just funny- ied it up, also borrowed the spoofing of elements from 'Airport' ( 1970, ) 'Airport 1975' ( actually released in 1974, despite its title, ) 'Airport '77' ( 1977, ) and 'The Concorde ... Airport '79' ( 1979. ) Ironically, the screenplay for 'Zero Hour!' AND the book that at least the first three 'Airport' movies was based on - "Airport" ( 1968 novel ) - was written by famed screenwriter/novelist Arthur Hailey. ]
'Airplane!' tells the story of afraid-to-fly-anymore former military fighter pilot "Ted Striker" ( Robert Hays ) - who has to try to land a passenger airliner - because ALL the crew ( pilot, copilot, and navigator ) and about half the passengers get sick with food poisoning. And, along the way, he must regain the love and respect of his stewardess girlfriend - "Elaine" ( Julie Hagerty. )
But this is merely a framework for the barrage of jokes, both verbal and visual, throughout the movie. 'Airplane!' was written for the screen by, and directed by, Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker ( ZAZ. ) [ ZAZ also had previously written the funny comedy spoof ( spoof of MANY thing - including exploitation films of the 1960's and 1970's, T.V. shows, commercials, movie coming attractions, ect. ) film 'The Kentucky Fried Movie' ( 1977. ) ( Although 'The Kentucky Fried Movie' was directed by John Landis, NOT ZAZ. ) ]
'Airplane!' featured cameo appearances, and extended cameos, by actors and actresses not usually associated with comedy - so making their appearance in the movie even more humorous, like: Lloyd Bridges [ of T.V.'s "Sea Hunt" ( 1958 - 1961, underwater action/adventure ) fame, ] Peter Graves [ of the old, T.V. series "Mission: Impossible" ( 1966 - 1973, spy/action ) fame, ] Leslie Nielson* [ mainly of the square-jawed, dark-haired, ship's commander - "Commander Adams" - in 'Forbidden Planet' ( 1956, science fiction film ) fame, ] and Robert Stack [ of "The Untouchables" ( 1959 - 1963, drama/crime drama T.V. series, ) as well as later the host/narrator of "Unsolved Mysteries" fame. ] Also with appearances by: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ( famous former Los Angeles Lakers pro basketball player - spoofing that a lot of the old, airline disaster films featured a sports star as a cast member, ) Barbara Billingsley as "Jive Lady" [ Billingsley was the co- star of ( played the mother in ) the popular T.V. sitcom "Leave It to Beaver" ( 1957 - 1963, ) so - spoofing how all-white that series was, so she was UNlikely to know "jive," ] Ethel Merman as "Lt. Hurwitz" [ parody of herself. Merman was a powerful-voiced singer/actress ( mainly in Broadway stage shows. ) She sings a little of one of her signature songs - "Everything's Coming Up Roses," ] and J.J. "Jimmy" Walker as "The Windshield Wiper Man" [ Walker was known for being in the T.V. sitcom "Good Times" ( 1974 - 1979. ) ] Watch CLOSELY to see/hear ALL the jokes. Also - watch ALL THE WAY to the end of the end credits, for the final joke.
Watch online for FREE here: moviesjoy.to/movie/airplane-19322
    2) 'Nine to Five' ( also written '9 to 5' ) - brilliant "office" ( set-in-an-office, ) well mostly in an office, comedy film. Stars Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton, and Lily Tomlin as three ( 3 ) put-upon female office workers who get even with their sexist, lying, egotistical, hypocritical, bigot boss ( brilliantly played by Dabney Coleman. ) Well co- written by, and directed by, Colin Higgins. Title song "Nine to Five" written and performed by Dolly Parton ( who was already a big country music star. This was, I believe, her first cross-over into acting role. ) With supporting roles played by: Earl Boen ( later of "Dr. Silberman" in the 'Terminator' movie franchise fame, ) and Sterling Hayden ( as "The Chairman of the Board." )
Watch online for FREE here: moviesjoy.to/movie/nine-to-five-12680
    3) 'Stir Crazy' - second ( 2nd ) [ after 'Silver Streak' ( 1976 ) ] pairing of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Wilder and Pryor play friends, who after they both lose their jobs on the same day, decide to drive cross country from New York City, New York to California - taking odd jobs along the way to make money. But their plan goes awry when they are framed for bank robbery and sentenced to 125 ( each ) years in prison. Before, and especially when ( and after, ) they arrive at the maximum security prison where they are to serve their prison terms - hilarity ensues. Nicely directed by famed, veteran, black actor - later turned actor/director - Sidney Poitier.
Watch online for FREE here: moviesjoy.to/movie/stir-crazy-13933
*Nielson went on to have quite a successful second ( 2nd ) career in ( mostly ) comedy after 'Airplane!'

What makes me sad is how few people from this movie are still alive. Basically every single person with a speaking role is dead. All of the legendary singers, one of the Blues Brothers, Carrie Fisher, John Candy, the head Nazi, "The Penguin", the two prison guards in the beginning, the Cheez Whiz guy... heck, even the guy asking if they have Ms. Piggy at the toy store.
