Simple question which I feel should be easy to answer. When do the rainbows and browns spawn in the southern hemisphere? In the US, rainbows typically spawn in the spring (late March to early May) and browns and brook trout spawn in the autumn (late September to early November). Since trout are not native to any place in the southern hemisphere, I'm curious which "clock" they have in their brains.
Browns in the Tongariro river are only really catchable in summer which is when they go up that river, trout in Ngongotaha (another fishing township near Rotorua) go up the Ngongotaha river in May, I went there in May, I spooked a 10 pound whopper brown, landed a 7 pound brown pretty good.
