Great album , Back when it came out friends would walk up to each other and say "Have You Seen The Bridge" and the reaction would be "Where Is That Confounded Bridge" and both laugh , Good Times lol
- And, onlookers out of the loop be like, "Whuhhh?..."
- Which only led to more laughs! :)
Yep! Me and my friends did the same thing! LOL

Hello from New England This is one of fav songs by Zep It's so funky and weird and showcases Bonzo's never-ending innovation on the kit The song THE ROVER is another great song with awesome groove and top notch bass playing John Paul Jones was the hidden weapon of the group 🧐✌️🤘😎
Hidden in plain sight 💜
this song isn't as appreciated as it should be 😒, very underrated
Man I'd forgotten about this gem! Still sounding fresh to me. The greatest band of all time. ❤
This is one of the songs that Robert Plant said, what was I thinking when he sang it.
Very much a James Brown tribute.
Yes
The best James Brown tribute will always be Living with a Hernia.
😂😂😂
Absolutely.
@@robbob5302 Or Eddie Murphy singing "Hot Tub"! Not sure of your age, but if you don't know what I'm referring to, it should be out there somewhere on TH-cam

ROFLMFAO!!
I was born 1970, but I musta missed that episode. That was great!
😆
John Bonham was heavy but he also had some funk, R and B and subtlety in his playing. Very cool. You should check out The Rover. The bridge!! LOL
Bonham was into R&B.
Love Led Zeppelin!!
They met James Brown, him & Page knew each other better. James Brown was also at an award ceremony, when Page was honored. So much of the band’s influences were great Black artists, & Plant had the vocals for them. Their versatility is just one reason LZ is the greatest.
Yep! This one is very noticeably inspired by James Brown, for sure. He influenced all those British Invasion bands, as did Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly and all the many, great American Blues musicians.
@@jenniferfoster1692 yes, Plant especially talks about his love of black Mississippi Delta & Chicago blues artist. As a young teen, he couldn’t wait for new blues shipments of records to come from America. Plant definitely, uses his vocals so beautifully, in all the blues songs. I know Page & Bonham were both influenced heavily by the blues too, I’m not real sure if JPJ was or not.
@@sicotshit7068 True! All the British Invasion guys really talk about this, from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, LZ, The Who, Eric Clapton & on & on. I've heard one of the big Blues guys, like BB King or Buddy Guy say that the British musicians saved Blues music because not many Americans were paying attention to them in the mainstream. We had Jimi Hendrix who did a lot of Blues in the 60s, The Doors did some great Blues, some of the folk rockers etc & The Allman Brothers & Lynyrd Skynyrd using a lot of Blues in Southern Rock but the British Invasion bands took it global with huge hits. Paul McCartney loved to do the Little Richard scream, lol, so good! So it was an international effort to make this great music, with the British using all the great American music from Jazz to Blues & doing their magic with it.
Love Led Zeppelin. Looking forward to more!
You two are alright. Love you. The Band. "The Weight."
For some reason this tune gets a lot of flak from fans, but I’ve always loved it! It’s a lot of fun like “Hot Dog” and “Candy Store Rock” and “Boogie with Stu”. Zeppelin could do it all and on occasion be cheeky. Cheers 👍
Zepplin feelin the funk
The 9/8 time signature rarely appears in any popular music. Genesis' Apocalypse in 9/8 is the only one that comes to mind. That's 2 legendary drummers pulling it off.
Not to argue and I might be wrong, but the time changes from 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 5/4. 4 to 5 to 4 to 2 to 4 to 3 to 4 to 5. I could look it up I have the book. But lately people say 9/8. I saw it in print as a bunch of different 4's. What I wrote there is just an example not necessarily accurate.
@@stewpot6998 Here's a really good analysis and drum transcription. I still don't fully get it 😄 th-cam.com/video/BQiKNuNhAsc/w-d-xo.html
You DO need to react to James Brown(if you haven't). Live is great, he was such a showman!
Where's that confounded bridge?
Love this song.
Such a cheeky end to the song and a nod to the song's structure. No bridge, no chorus, no hook, no tempo changes, but still a pretty unforgettable song
Thanks for reaction! Not many reactions to this tune around. At end of day, tons of reactions left for live Zep and Rob solo. His catalog is extremely varied and impressive. Thanks again you two!
In the early 80s there was a bridge in a park where we used to go to smoke it up. Because of the words at the end (Have you seen the bridge? I ain't seen the bridge. Where's that confounded bridge?), we called the bridge The Crunge.
A PERFECT PICK!!!.. I LOVE the Crunge, some people hate it... but hey, its Zep once again letting their influences creep into the music, and the Bridge is a take on James Brown!... AND doing a great job of it!... I wouldve gotten to this one eventually, thanks Rodney!... A great next one to do that follows along with the unexpected and also from the Houses and of the Holy 5th album would be D'yer Maker... brings in some some '50s rock and even reggae influence!
WHAT?!? Some people HATE this song? Heathens . . .
@@rowenatulley852LOL
@@rowenatulley852 Ive seen it picked by some Zep fans as their least fave... oh well!
Ya amazing song! Not sure why some fans don’t like it…..it’s a lot fun.
Glad you liked my pick, thank you! Figured it might be cool to go with something that's underrated and hardly ever done on reaction channels. ~ Rodney
Great reaction! I'm sure there's more then one song by James Brown talking about The Bridge but his song "Sex Machine/Get Up" is probably the most iconic. There's a couple more Led Zeppelin songs that get into a kind of Funk Rock Fusion off their Presence album, "Royal Orleans" and "For Your Life".
Strangest combination of time signatures ever 😛 amazing
This has a lot of James Brown influence, in the music & in Robert Plant's delivery in certain places. Very noticeable in the beginning. Bluesy, funky, R&B with a lot of attitude. But as always, LZ puts their own stamp on it and makes it into something new.
Another funky groove by this iconic group. Try sampling their song called
Fool In The Rain
Thanks for sharing this amazing classic by the Mighty Zeppelin!
And a special shout out to Eddie, Ed, and Ted Zeppelin!
Wherever you are....
Kool song, great reaction band before their time. James Brown, godfather of soul.
I never liked this one very much, but listening to it with u guys I enjoyed it, thanks
Supposedly they were going for a funky song that is nearly impossible to dance to. I think they even had printed up a dancing instruction sheet to this song that was supposed to go into the album but never did.
James Brown . . . Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, Sex Machine, I Feel Good, Popcorn, The Payback . . . you should take a listen . . .
Well, John Paul Jones (bassist) did play a clavinet, so, along with a Manson triple neck acoustic (12 strings, 6 strings and mandolin). ❤️🤘🎸🎻🦘
Glad I picked the right dress! ~ Rodney😉
Pre-internet, the story on this song was that it was improved and adlibbed. That's why there was no bridge. They were just screwing around with the tape running
Always been one of my favorite songs of theirs, and that is saying a lot given their f 9:42 antastic catalog! Another one I really like is Out On the Tiles (drunken, stumbling sound in chorus) and 'All Of My Love' (Robert's child), to very bluesy 'Since I've Been Loving You' and their intro/outro tribute cover of blues singer Sonny Boy Williamson's version of Bring It On Home, and finally hard rock/heavy metal Misty Mountain Hop. Oh so many great songs!!
I can't tell you how many times in rehearsal and even a couple times live when the song was performed really well and we loved it or the audience loved it but it kind of fell apart at the end because we pushed it too far, and then somebody in the band inevitably yells, Has anyone seen the bridge? Where's that confounded bridge?!! Lol
It's a fantastic complicated prog rock piece and a very ambitious and difficult thing to do, and it doubles as homage to James brown, and if you listen to it, the lyrics are hilarious and Robert Plant does it total justice.
It's so funny. It's like a guy that says he's not going to talk about his girl but then he doesn't stop talking about her, and then he says he can't possibly divulge one other thing at all, and then he proceeds to do so, and it's just off to the races, laugh. It's brilliant.
I believe Robert was asking for the bridge to the song? LOL! Verse' chorus, bridge. So they kept it in recording and just had fun with it.
YAY Thank YOU **Rodney** **LUV** this song!!! **KickAss** pick!!! & YAY Thank YOU **Bars&Barbells** **RockON!!!**
Thank you : ) I thought it might be cool to have them hear a side of Zeppelin that's hardly ever reacted to ~ Rodney

When a new album came out it was "like a box of chocolates, never knew what you were gonna ge", but you knew you were gonna love it!
So different for the mighty Led Zeppelin. So funky. It's got definite elements of James Brown and Stevie Wonder. I recall not liking it too much as a teen in the 1970s but I have certainly warmed up to it over the years. I quite like it now. The entire Houses of the Holy album is fire. Hey, please react to a great, more traditional Zep song from Physical Graffiti, The Rover, with one of my favourite opening guitar riffs ever.
❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤
Hilarious, loved it. Childhood memories for me. From 1973 man check out Alice cooper, long way to go. It was featured in a very popular movie for a while that won a bunch of awards, the world according to GARP
Everyone loves James Brown “take it to the bridge…. Has anyone seen the bridge?”
Hello and thanks about LZ reactions they are awesome! I am asking you to do Rain Song from Houses of holy-album. Maybe Unledded-live is really cool
They did EVERYTHING!! This is a tribute to James Brown!
Couple of bangers you might not have done are Boogie with Stu and Hotdog. Great reaction as usual guys and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
there is not enough reaction of 1937 whole lotta live 25mins, with all transitions and stuff it is really a pick!
JPJ bassline was on point. James Brown The Big Payback. ❤
I would say..this is ProgFunk. Absolutely amazing.
Some said they were heavy metal others said they were hard rock, then what was this then? Obscure song to react to but another brilliant song and choice, nice to hear it again after many years. I still haven't found the bridge but another great Zep song, thank you lol. All the other reactors,...same with AC/DC they all react to the same old songs, these bands have been around for 50 years but they all react to only 3 or 4 songs pfft WTF? Great to see you guys listening to the B side 👍
For a fair amount of Zep fans, this is a Zep song they do not like. I think it’s kinda cool, though I will admit it had to grow on me ….its just so NOT like them.
Now I love the funky groove and I LOVE the way Robert holds those accent notes. Great James Brown vibe
Exactly how it went down with me. Took some time to grow on me
The Beatles invented "funk-rock", with their love of Otis Redding and his funk style, they wrote this song - You Can't Do That in '64, plus these songs, I Call Your Name, She's a Woman, The Word, Taxman all before the Yard Birds broke up let alone Zep being a thing.
Yes James Brown, but also Otis Redding( “ Mr Pitiful “)
Trampled Underfoot is their other Uber funky tune
Great album.
I hope they found the confounded bridge by now!
Actually, as a point of fact, the fourth album had no title. So when you say the 5th album was the first album that was not a numbered album and had a true title, that is not completely true. The first three albums had numbered titles, the fourth album had no title.
Yes! Most folks call the 4th album The Four Signs. This album, Houses of the Holy, is a MUST HAVE for any collection . . .
@@rowenatulley852 Or Zoso.
@@John_Locke_108Never called it either of those. Has always been Zeppelin IV to me and my crowd. Zoso and Four Symbols sounds weird lol
@@HeavyBrocks I tend to just refer to it as their fourth record.
@@John_Locke_108 I do too . . .
With all the respect for the Funk artist all over the world, this song is not the usual 4/4 signature, we talking about something well more progressive and innovative.
I'm not sure If it's been mentioned yet but the bridge they are looking for is the song itself. It's continuous without a bridge. So they are asking where is it?
Fun song to learn to drum.
Walking away with numbers flying through your head. What was that for?!!
Next try "Trampled Under Foot".
James Brown's in town
❤
Phil is actually the leader singer of Billy Talent: Benjamin Kowalewicz
Go to their official Wikipedia page and look at the singer in the main image. The resemblance is uncanny.
Listen to “trampled under foot” also funky zeppelin
They were more free in their live performances, so many with great improvisation, each concert was unique.
Zeppelin's take on James Brown. He even mentions "Mr. Pitiful". This song always seemed unfinshed to me. Like a first run-through and nothing else.
not one of my favs but i get why some like it so much..
There is no such thing as a bad Zep song. They’ve always been blues hard rock
It’s a little hitch for fun and different but Zep really should have left “ The Rover” on this album as originally recorded. Listen to “ The Rover” and you’ll see what I mean!
you want Funk ? Checkout Led Zeppelin doing Trampled Under Foot !
They want you to dance but just not good. Be all jerky an sh...
You must react to the greatest James Brown impression!! Eddie Murphey: too hot in the hot tub.😂😂 do it!!
For Zep that doesn't sound like Zep try Hot Dog.
You should listen to “Cold Sweat” by James Brown.
Where's that confounded bridge? More you say? Trampled Under Foot-next
Have you seen that confounded bridge
Lmao at this experience overall. Sam I can tell you got it immediately by your body language. But the whole thing is such a triumph of complexity and difficulty while just having fun while hardcore going off. And yet it's still relatable if you're the kind of looser dancer that can just stay with the overall groove and adjust to all the little bumps and shifts along the way. And Plant just kills it here with his outrageous over-the-top ridiculousness. I laugh every time I hear this and yet I cannot stop moving to it.
I heard that the bridge on jimmys guitar popped off and plant just went with it. Dont know if its true or not
CAN SOMEONE REQUEST DANCING DAYS, I'M GONNA CRAWL, DOWN BY THE SEASIDE?
This song would be even better if it had a bridge. 🤣😜
Bridge
Where’s that confounded bridge???
🤬🤬🤬
What they can't do is anything that sounds bad
Houses of the holy appears on a later album the first song, the song remains the same excellent the rain song you can listen to it over the Hills and far away. Excellent the ocean it’s ok.side two dancing days a really good song. Did you make her excellent song it’s spelled funny because it’s a joke. I can’t remember if there’s another song between that and the last song the crunge it’s slightly annoying, but it lets you know that the album’s over….
Have they done Kashmir yet?
Don't think they have
Ok seems like it’s essential LZ
@@FrancisMoran-ml3gg agreed!
Maybe the O2 version
@FrancisMoran-ml3gg right?! Still killing it even at that age
This song from the GOATS pays homage to James Brown. Enjoy
If this isnt the funkiest🤘❤️🇺🇸 your not breathing😮 nod to the late great james brown king of funk
I’ve always wanted to know who says the last line “where’s that confounded bridge?” The accent sounds American
That's Plant.
@@anthonyv6962 Nope. Listen again. There are two voices.
I think it might be JPJ. I don't think it's Plant though, the voice just sounds way to different IMHO
@@helenespaulding7562they are both Plant.
@@rodneyfrazer2424 yes….I’ve listened to a gazillion interviews of Plant, and lived with his podcast over the pandemic. I fell asleep to his podacast. I know his voice and it’s timbre, from youth to old age. I’m a total fan. Unless he was deliberately disguising his voice, that wasn’t it. It’s not Page either. I know his speaking voice too. JPJ is very soft spoken, as is Page. Bonzo was not, so could be him. But like I said, whoever that voice belongs to, they are speaking with an American accent/Canadian accent. So either somebody in the band is a great mimic and totally changed the timbre of their voice, or it’s an unknown person visiting the studio.
Red Hot Chili Peppers were inspired , if not copied, this sound.
Is this 5/4 time?
9/8
It's moving around from 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 5/4. Rodney says 9/8. I think it's much more messed up. I'm going to look in the book I have. Even then... I love Bonham's timing and hi-hat on Misty Mountain Hop though.
@@stewpot6998 Yeah, I could be wrong. But it's definitely funky
I don't think this song is all that great, but IMO the band is just having fun, as a group of musicians should, and they honestly liked the music of James Brown.
This is from there 5 album Houses of the Holy, you are wrong about the fourth album it was untitled and did not say Led Zeppelin anywhere on the album. It had the four symbols on it and that was it. Never called it Led Zeppelin IV called it The fourth album or symbols
I think the album is underrated because it came in between 4 & Physical Graffiti. It is excellent, as all the others.
This song pissed off, disappointed, confused, and annoyed fans and critics alike. I've never had a problem with it. Just the band having some fun. As for the name, it was a made up name by the band for a "crazy" dance they used to do, one in which they'd start kicking each other. And there it is.
Shocking 🤮
This album is amazing but that is the worst song on it. jmo
The ending on The Ocean to end the album is Page and Bonham at their best.
Clavinett? Isn't that a woman's collar bone?? 😅 This poor album followed the famous blockbuster #4 and was not popular until years later so Ahead of their time perhaps!!?? Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
What Can't they Do?
-Write a power metal song (as a metal artist that's pathetic)
-Write a love song (Thank You is not a love song)
-Write a number 1 hit song
-Write an R&B flavored song
-Write a disco-flavored song
-Write a ballad
-Write a song that makes the industry jump ahead a few decades.
-Invent anything for future music artists
-They can't stay out of court for plagiarizing.
-They can't tour or make albums since the 80's because Plants voice is ripped to shreds singing in that style for Zep..
..should I go on!????
Ck. Out Zeperrella version of when the levee breaks. You won't be disappointed. 😊
