A super simple way to determine the overall height of a newel post on a stair railing. #shorts Tools and resources: Burn One tape measure www.fastcap.com
Need to add the ‘embedded’ length use to tie down into the rough framing (floor joists below the top of the first tread and again at the upper landing). If first tread rests directly above concrete SOG, then that ‘embedded’ length stops at the concrete post anchor supporting the newel post.
Your video's are awesome. I always like to see how others do finish work and your video's are very informative. Keep them coming. Your tips of the trade are most useful!
My preference would be to cut the tile and glue to the subfloor. Is it going against a staircase/stringer as well? If so, you might me able to get away with lag bolts to the stringer and glue. But my preference would be un-tiled floor.
Your channel is very informative
Thank you very much Patrick. Glad to hear!

You're right I have to cover that at some point in another video. Thanks for dropping a note. Cheers, Scott

Very well explained. Good trick.
Thank you Timothy!
Thanks, Scott! Is that “burn one” tape a FastCap product?
@@bobmartin6055 Yes. FastCap.com. Every woodworker should have one. Great tool. Thx Bob!

How would you install a newel post on tile? Cut the tile to expose the subfloor or install on top?

@@scottearlsmithFTC thanks for the advice. It is going against a staircase.
