Hello everyone. Thank you AM for the Tina news and giving a little bit of her history. Wish there was something that could be done to help her and her newborns.
She will be an excellent big sister, if Teensy lives long enough! Teeny is very motivated and it is great experience to prepare for her own baby. Isn't Teensy precious? Teeny almost got slapped for trying to touch her new baby sibling though.
Jay saw one of your video's on another channel called Top Macaques. The video from 3 yrs or so ago when bossy was disciplining the baby for biting her. Did you give them permission to post as their own video? The video is a month old on that channel and no mention of you being the owner.
That's because there are no VOs interfering with the monkeys natural behaviour. AM videos their lives, with only an occasional sweet potato to a new mum. Also these monkeys were never pets, so they learn from their mums and sisters how to treat their babies.
the glucose comes naturally from the fruit- but I bet it is the bread- which is always really crappy white bread -even crusts- that have no nutrition at all, but also full of quick carbs- aka sugar. Also many monkeys are gluten intolerant and this can create all sorts of vitamin and minerals imbalances like low hemoglobin. The fact that this is a female higher on the chain, means she gets a lot of food- but not necessarily food that is good for her or her babies.
None of them leave the teat before about 10 days. For one, they can't walk, and it takes about that long for their eyes to be able to focus enough to do more than just hold on. If you observe the newborns, their eyes are cloudy and dull, like human babies, but after a week or so they get clear and shiny, you can see the white around them, and instead of being buried on the nipple they will be looking up at Mom a whole lot to imprint her face.
@@philbert006 Keep in mind some babies are walking and climbing very, very early. I know...WHAT. Yes, it has been documented more than once. Spunky comes to mind. She was climbing before walking just days after birth. These babies are few. AM calls them "super babies". Their motor skills are off the charts. Moreover, nursing is not their main focus. Playing, being adventurous and escaping mom seems to be their goal. Lol. They are much too young to be out and about, but it is hard to keep them down. The eye development explanation makes since but what about these super babies. Makes one wonder if they were possibly older than once thought or their eye development was more advanced than the normal baby. I tend to believe their eye development was advanced due to years of glimpsing the behavior of these newborn superbabies. Just a guess. Teensy's nursing frequency and duration seems to be MORE than normal. Well, except for Dopey. Dopey was probably a premature baby though. It is true, we only see a tiny glimpse of their lives, so who knows what really is going on. One fact is Teensy is NOT physically active like other babies her age. MC has stated how inactive Teensy is. IMO THIS IS HORRIBLE NEWS. 1. She might be too weak to expend energy to wiggle about let alone forage. 2. She doesn't have the adventurous personality or the needed will to fight to live, that will propel her to forage early. Tiny and Teeny fought to live every second of their lives. Teeny also began foraging very, very early. AM didn't meet Tiny as a newborn, so we just do not know his early behavior. Let's hope Teensy has this fight to live too. Her teeth are coming in. She needs to begin walking and start foraging if she is going to make it. I'm rooting for this little girl.
I’m not sure why Tina’s babies don’t thrive. If human mothers are the same a primates the theory of poor milk is questionable. Excerpt from maternal nutrition. Breastfeeding moms sometimes worry about the quality of their breast milk. Fortunately, the milk you make for your baby is almost always nutritionally ideal for your child. Even severely malnourished mothers produce great breast milk, because the body takes nutrients from the mother's own body to supply the baby.

These cute ginger babies grow up to be rather ugly Rhesus macaque ugly ducklings. I heard, I think from here, that all of these monkeys are a hybrid of sorts. When first introduced on the hill there was a longtail troop that immediately mated with them creating this different than any other Rhesus macaque species than seen in other parts of the world. They got the grey mix in their coats and look like they have mange as adults. I'm not trying to be mean here I'm simply telling it the way it is
There are a handful of long tailed macaques in Hong Kong. I'm not sure the genetic distribution to date. Due to the fact that male macaques leave their natal troops it is plausible that many of the macaques are genetically variable. I personally wouldn't describe any macaque as ugly ducklings. Not even Ethan or Lowina. Each has their own look, personality, and story that makes them special. The only macaque to my knowledge, that definitely has some long tail macaque genes is Suzy. Possibly Tracy's offspring Trinky and Trinny's father might be a mix breed. Only genetic sequencing would tell us definitely which macaques are mixed and to what degree the longtail genes are distributed. The mange look happens to a FEW of the macaques. This happens I believe during the spring when they shed their winter coat. This shedding can occur in patches making them look a bit unsightly. Lol. Bossy and Dolly are two examples that come to mind. I'm not sure why certain females look so out of sorts in the spring. Dolly does have a magnificent winter coat though. I do believe Bossy has a skin issue which probably flares up in times of stress. Maybe eczema. I believe Bessy, Bossy's daughter, has the same skin issue. Nevertheless, stating that ALL the adult macaques look like they have mange is not true. You will need to be a little more observant.
Again I wasn't trying to be mean... When I said ugly ducklings as adults is that dual color fir and the skin conditions on some that make them look rather un-healthy at first glance because of some adult coats of their fur. I don't actually think they are ugly, it's more of an expression, and sure it's a very subjective opinion. I'm basing what I said compared to a pigtail for example, whom of which typically have beautiful coats of hair while they grow older.
