  • Why should you wind your own guitar pickups? Simple answer is, you in know what you like so chance your tone. Iv been down the rabbit hole of pickups (active/passive) for years and I wanted to experiment on making my own, a few years back. It’s such a great stress reliever and you learn more on how to find your your own unique tone. Hope this video helps anyone in any way that is try to find that unique tone and in winding your own pickups.

    The winding direction you use is clockwise, not counter clockwise.

    Hey Jake good tutorial makes me want to make my own, can you tell us what the difference is between homemade and 3or 400$ set of pickups?

    • @jakethefate
      @jakethefate  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well the main thing is that your save around $300 lol. But honestly the main differences is in the amount of winds your able to do with your own pickups. Since your scathing the winds around, your counter acting the capacitive loss and you’ll be able to get more highs and a stronger mid tone with a lot of clarity that most factory pickups don’t since it’s all very uniformly next to Each other. I especially love that because I play with extreme high gain and when I strum a chord I can hear every note clearly. But also the magnet is important let’s say with that kind of pickup with highs and strong mids using an Alnico 5 magnet smooths is out so it’s not so ear piercing and I usually like to make my own with high output but In order to balance that out I’ll use an alnico 8 or a ceramic magnet. But that’s the main differences, that your able to create your own tone and sound and find what’s best for you. Hopefully I made some sense in that and answered your question hahaha

    Greetings from Indonesia, is it the same or is there a difference in how to wrap the coil neck and bridge humbucker pickups

    • @jakethefate
      @jakethefate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello my friend, typically you want to wind your neck pickup less hotter then your bridge. I would say around 8-10 K ohms for a warmer sounding pick, so depending on what gauge wire your using if your doing 43 awg I would say 5 or 6 thousand turns each bobbin would be okay, if you do 42 awg 8-10 thousand turns is around the sweet spot for each bobbin. But if you wanna wind them around the do a few less turns like keep your bridge a little hotter. There’s no right or wrong way to wind your own pickups, it’s just a matter of you trying it out for your self and seeing what you like and don’t like.

      @@sterlingmmattiaputty1035 yes I can gladly make a a video on winding a set of humbuckers and showing the difference between the neck and bridge.

    When I am doing coil winding, I must use clockwise or counterclockwise winding???

    Thanks for the video. I subscribed. But I have a question. 15:10 Did you flip one of the two here? Or did the black line start and the white line finish remain the same, and only the position of the line has changed? just upside down?

    • @jakethefate
      @jakethefate  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank your dude!!! yeah I just made a new video on that I kinda messed up on my north and south side but if your smart you’ll know north is always up and south is down but black is start the wire that’s tapped to the machine and the white is the finish so I usually like to have them a lil long then 2 inches just in case because I do start, finish, finish, finish so (black, white, white, black) I just do it like that because it’s a little more easier to understand

    Hey man good video. Are those bobbins from Mojotone or Stewmac?

  • @ATthemusician
    @ATthemusician ปีที่แล้ว

    So basically when you wind each coil, the resistance doubles when they're combined right? If I have 2 single coils wrapped at 7kOhm each it should produce about 14kOhm humbucker?

  • @edilsony2b
    @edilsony2b ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In this case, you did a Bridge Humbucker, so the two bobins are counterclockwise winding? Or one of these is clockwise and the other one is counter-clockwise?

    • @jakethefate
      @jakethefate  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do both counter clockwise but I make sure that one end is my start and both finish are in the middle and the other end is my start of my second coil. It’s ideal to do one clockwise and the other counter clockwise because of the way the it flows but I mix and it up to try different things.
