    These cages for these small cameras look badass even though it kind of defeats the point of a smaller camera but I feel like when I assemble my own cage it’s gonna give me the same satisfaction I used to get as a kid attaching bionicle and LEGO pieces and making my own custom character or creature.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Victor - Bluerush1992 haha! Yeah I totally get that. Having it light and small definitely has its advantages, especially when you’re using a gimbal or traveling. However, when you do a lot of client work and bigger shoots, having something fully rigged out with a cage actually helps a ton with workflow.

    WOW!! 4 minutes into the video and the rig has already started to look very good. And sure get that wooden side handle, there is on that has a record button on it. And keep in mind people, this rig can be used with different cameras and looks so much professional arriving on set with this than with a mirrorless cam. Just imagine arriving on set with a a6500 vs this rig. The only thing missing from this rig would be a microphone.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, I've been looking into the Tilta wooden handle with the record button, its $230 though, so I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. And yes, going on set with this is much better looking and performing than a stripped down a6500. I don't usually put a mic on it actually cause I'm frequently syncing audio to a boom mic.

    The stop motion portion was a really cool touch, and I love that you added that into this. Really cool setup! I use to do video, then switched mainly over to photography, but now want to build up a cinema rig again, so this really helps give me some good ideas!

    Almost two grand off. Geez.
    I'd love to build out my camera for my own productions. Luckily, I already have my a7iii and some G-Master lenses. I could see the look of this even being a "selling point" for clients in terms of perceived value. Great video man!

      @chadwin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Zee Jay hey thanks so much! Yeah, once you add up all of the parts it turns out to be pretty expensive, I didn’t even realize till I made the video. Yeah, if you already have the a7iii and G masters, that’s a fantastic place to start your build! Clients definitely take you more serious with a more professional looking rig, not to mention it’s actually very functional and useful to have rigged out.

    Interesting video, thanks. I did this once a few years back to a Canon 1DX body. after I started adding up what I spent on all the Zacuto stuff to make it, I sold it all and bought the Sony FS5. I wonder if you can clear up a myth... that the Ninja V recorder allows you to record at a higher bit rate- thus more range in the grade. Personally cant see how this is true, it surely just records what the Sony see's. Lastly yeap, nice video as is often the case with your content- happy new year.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Bowyer hey, yeah so there are only a few cameras that will record at a higher bit rate when using the Ninja V. I know the Canon EOS R and Nikon Z6 both record higher bit rates and even ProRes RAW now. But yeah, the Sony’s don’t, the cam is still just an 8 bit Sony after this full rig build haha

Red cameras are also expensive but you can probably find one less than 6,000 or just buy a good 4k video and photo camera, a stabilizer, and a rig from Amazon for under 500, LOL you can probably also build your own custom gaming pc with a dope graphics card and best settings. All of these stuff you could buy for less than 6,000+ freaking bucks

    I could be wrong... but limitations are limitations. Sure the A7 series can shoot 4k, but the footage is limited to 8-Bit, 4.2.0 colour. You can slap all the bells and whistles you want on it. Sure some will help, and aesthetically looks nice.. but the A7 series will never meet the quality of a RED.

      Jaeger Mah you’re 100% correct! It doesn’t improve picture quality except by getting higher quality files from ProRes. Thing is, I’ve swapped this rig out for my BMPCC6K which has fantastic 12bit BRAW and 4:2:2. It actually matches up against the RED footage quite nicely

    As a 15 year ENG vet and audio Sup, I’m curious as to how front heavy that rig is. In a lot of gigs, you are “shouldered up” for 10+ hours. You will have a time code box and an IFB (for sound reference) stacked next to your Anton Bauer/Vmount. The speed rails need to be longer, to offset the weight, if you are shoulder mounting for more than a few hours. Otherwise, your forearms will burn.
    And you never mention bongo ties. Cable management is everything on DSLR rigs. Keep it tight or you will snag.
