      Often the problem with Spinnaker. One aspect of the watch will be great and the rest trails behind. Decent value for money but the design always feels incomplete (or lacking cohesion).

      Can you elaborate what's meh about it? The dial and AR coating seemed good as well as the bracelet and finishing. Do you not like the design? The printed indices? Or maybe the movement?
      Just curious because I've been liking some of the Spinnaker divers and wondering whether to pull the trigger

      @@fark69, by ‘meh’ I mean it doesn’t offend, but it doesn’t excite me either. It’s a bit of a ‘parts bin special’ in that it’s a combination of bits I feel I’ve seen a million times before. As suggested in the review, the blue of the bezel insert is tonally nothing like the blue of the dial and it looks like an afterthought. I’m sure the quality is fine and if you like it I see no reason why you shouldn’t buy it.

    It's a seriously nice watch. I agree on the female end links, in fact this was my first thought seeing the watch. And I'm a fan of the bezel insert. Finally a matt ceramic bezel insert that really looked like aluminium. The dial markings had the strongest lume. Perhaps the lume of the hands gets improved upon as this was only a prototype.

    Pretty decent watch! Even uses a higher-end Miyota rather than the ridiculously ubiquitous NH35. Still, I don't see how they're justifying the cost, but it's close to competitors (my Steinhart Ocean One, made in Germany with a Swiss movement, sapphire, no date, same depth rating cost less). Great review all the same, Jody!

    Can’t help but to think of the Casio Duro. I know it’s not an apples to apples comparison but if I’m reminded of a around $50 watch to this over $500 one, makes more sense to go with the Duro.

    @nukadog1969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I admit to finding several Spinnaker models attractive, I never thought the entire package worth it. In the price range this model plays in, there's so much competition. And, honestly, for about half MSRP without discount, you can have a Glycine Combat Sub with a Sellita movement inside (of all places, look at Walmart online). At 12mm thick, it's not quite as thin as the Spinnaker, but it's arguably a better, or at least equal, movement in a Swiss watch. I generally prefer Glycine's combat sub style, which is a bonus.

    • @fark69
      @fark69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I see Glycine Combat Subs selling for often more than some Spinnaker divers (like the Cahill) especially when you consider the 20% discount code for Spinnaker off the website.
      And afaik, Glycine combat sub doesn't have double domed sapphire crystal, doesn't have as nice case finishing, and it's also printed dial, so what are you getting with the Combat Sub over this or another Spinnaker diver? Just curious

    I feel like more companies should focus on the skindiver category of dive watches. This is still a very capable diver, at 300 meters, but it achieves a wonderfully slim profile. I love a deep diver but it is refreshing when companies put a bit more focus on "wear ability." 100m is more than enough for most of us *cough Seiko 5* *cough Vostok* Great video and thanks for bringing another beautiful diver to my attention!

    I don't think I can buy another Spinnaker after my experience with my Tesei bronze. The first one I bought had the crown break within a week. Mark at long Island was great and sent me a new one. This one broke a year and a half later where my unidirectional bezel suddenly became bidirectional. I sent it in for a warranty repair through the place Spinnaker does warranty work in the USA and they decided that it wasn't covered under the warranty. So begrudgingly I paid them $300 to replace the case and regulate the movement. I got the watch back and it was loosing time erratically. -15 seconds one day, -50 seconds the next day, -25 seconds the next and after a few weeks of this the movement stopped working completely. I sent the watch to my local watch maker who told me the pallet jewels were broken and it would cost another $300. The Spinnaker repair center refused to pay to have it fixed but offered to replace the movement for free, so I sent the watch back to them. I have been waiting 2 months for them replace the movement and they still haven't returned my watch. Their customer service is awful. I constantly have to follow up with them because if I don't they forget about me and nothing would ever gets done. At this point after 2 watches and almost a year without my watch, I am convinced that Spinnaker watches are overpriced, made poorly, and their warranty is complete B.S.
    That being said, this doesn't look too bad. Just a little expensive for a Miyota powered watch.

    • @swilkobarfingtoniii1642
      @swilkobarfingtoniii1642 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate to say it, but your watch maker did you a huge disservice. The fact is- The wholesale cost of an NH3X movement is about $50. Even if he charged you a full hour for the service (which a competent watch maker could do in about 5 minutes- including regulation) it should be a $100 repair.
      Replacing the pallet jewels in a Seiko movement is ridiculous. So is waiting two months for the manufacturer to make good on it's own product.
      Thanks for the warning. If anybody has a different story I'd like to hear about it.

      @@swilkobarfingtoniii1642 The Tesei actually come with an SW200. So while I think they were charging me too much it is not as bad as if it was a nhxx movement.

    The thinnest watch I ever saw and I owned it for a while after my dad, was his 1979 Bulova Phantom Digital. In gold of course, the two button pushers on the front were thicker than the watch itself but the problem is batteries only lasted about six months, and there was a glitch and it couldn’t be repaired which is a shame because I think it was about C$800 back then if I recall the sticker on it (it did look about as thin as the example you showed.)
    I am seeing a lot of those progressive Blue fade dial watches from the interesting new offerings on watch dives, for example the new mini turtle from Heimdahler.

    Regarding the dark patch of lume on the minute hand, I wonder if the counter balance of the seconds hand cast a shadow during the “charging” procedure.
    Otherwise, nice.

      Sadly mate, it is just cheap lume. I've seen it before. Plus I always make sure the hands don't foul each other or the indices when I am blasting them with a torch!

      @@JustOneMoreWatch That settles that assumption then. LOL.
      I have to say, having followed Spinnaker for quite some time, I have noticed a little decline in their QC and particularly for little details like this where I have to say, in the past 2 or so years they were going well with.

    I would say the manufacturer for NTH, which used to produce their first versions of the SUB's (like the Näcken, Baracuda, etc.) has sold the design to Spinaker, as the first gen. of NTH subs is no longer available. I wonder what Cris Weil would think about this...

    I like it but I’m saving up for a Christopher Ward…(and another Tudor and another Rolex and another Omega etc etc etc 🤣)

    Good review, just ignore this one the colours don't go at all and unbranded would be better than that.

    Maybe its the camera but the lume on the hands looks to be a bit darker than the dial

    They just used the NTH Sub v1 case, and omitted drilled lugs.
    Also, not sure why they didnt go the route of female endlinks here

    They should have used bgw9 or at least matched the lume color. It's so ugly that the hands and bezel markers don't match the hour markers. It doesn't appear to have been a design choice either because it's all the same glow color. Probably due to printing vs applying the markers. Also, at this price on the fly adjustment should be a given.

    Very impressed with how slim it is. I think it looks like every other diver though. Hopefully they produce a more interesting looking watch that thin.

    1st time I've ever commented, been watching you since you started, pretty much. Very enjoyable.
    Anyways. I BET the case was made by the same folks eho make the cases for NTH! Made the same way!!

    Looks really nice, I love the handset as well! Are you sure that the bezel is ceramic though? I’ve heard elsewhere that it’s aluminium. The mat finish makes it look more like aluminium too

    Its a very nice looking watch, but Why is it so in fashion now to do watches without date Window? Cant they make it as chooseble? And it reminds a little of the NTH sub, exept hands.. otherwise very similar 🤔.. a retro clasp like the HTD would have been perfekt 👌..
    Nice video as usual 😊

    It's 520.00 USD with a 20% discount. I am not sure if there are shipping charges or taxes. Still, a good deal for engineering a 300-meter water-resistant watch being so thin is amazing, and never seen one this thin before.

    If the slimness is the order of the day here go for Glycine which will be even slimmer with its 10.5 mm Swiss made and have the price!
