Pamela's legitimately the bravest character in the series.
Little girl, actively screams at literal mummies, goes outside almost immediately, alone, after hearing the Gibdos leave and even CHECKS THE WELL and she actively protects her almost fully Gibdoed father from you.

I started majoras mask a week ago, and the zora story makes me sad, and the rest of it is just creepy.

I have hundreds of hours in Breath of the Wild, and had no idea that Hino gets the zoomies during Blood Moons. This game just keeps on giving

I was lucky enough to find him and his zoomies on my first playthrough by accident. But I had no idea of the significance because it was my first blood moon too. So it was neat to see the theories and commentary on Hino's character, as I was able to go re-visit the character with greater insight.
He freaked the heck out of me though. Not gonna lie.

The first time I saw a blood moon I was by the dueling peaks stable. Hino's screaming and frantic behaviour freaked me out so much I thought that somehow I was too late and that ganon had broken free from hyrule castle. His behaviour during a blood moon seems more appropriate for kilton, but I'm glad that no one else reacts like Hino
same. it was quite unsettling.
First time I saw one I had Leeroy Jenkinsed myself into the nest of Lizalfos near the lake Hylia tower. I thought that somehow Ganon had spotted me, eye of Sauron style.

@@modelomegatyler It would have been a neat mechanic. If you do something noticable you have to keep moving or the brute squad is coming for you. Maybe the guardians in the area start to converge on your location.

So, in summary, Majora's Mask is the sleep paralysis demon of the Zelda franchise.
And that is why I love it so.
In my opinion that game doesn't exist the hero of time link is dead and that is his amagination, he's looking for his friend navi ( that's dead ) and most of the people are the same

It is weird, but still doesn't change anything.
The characters are identical because the developers were forced to reuse assets from OOT in order to launch the game in schedule.
Many Encyclopedias and guides refute that theory.
Hell, Link lived long enough to be an adult and father at least one child, since TP Link is his descendent. So he couldn't have possibly be dead.
I think it's safe to say that every character in Majora's Mask can fall into the "creepy" category or the "tragic" category, and those two sets are not mutually-exclusive.
How and why?

"Every" character is probably an exaggeration, but think about all the different characters in the game; a lot of them are either creepy (the mask, Happy Mask Salesman, etc.) or tragic (everyone in Clock Town, the people who become the transformation masks, etc.)

@@MCWalter126 Oh, that part. I meant that there's some overlap between the list of "creepy" characters and the list of "tragic" characters, as in there are some characters that are both creepy and tragic. Pamela's dad, for instance.
"Mutually exclusive" is a math term that basically means that there is no overlap between two given sets. A good example is the set of odd numbers and the set of even numbers; there's no number that's both even and odd, so the two sets are mutually exclusive.
Yeah, can't really think of an exception... Maybe that damn dog that attacks you when you first arrive in Clock Town.
Ok, but here's what you missed about Pamela and her father. Why would a scientist bring a child to such a dangerous area? Why not leave Pamela at home with her mother?
The video says that once the music box house starts playing again, Pamela goes out to check the well. Why would she be checking the well if her father is already locked in the wardrobe downstairs? Pamela is looking for her mother. Both parents were transformed by the curse but Pamela was only able to save her dad. One of the gibdos in the well is Pamela's mother.
I was gonna argue but I forgot the lab isn’t her house I always thought that the downstairs was a strange bedroom because it looked like it
Something else I noticed: There's a teddy bear in the wardrobe that's wrapped in bandages like a gibdo. I think it's Pamela's, and she dressed it up to look like a gibdo so her father wouldn't feel lonely in the wardrobe

The mask salesman is even stranger in the Majora's Mask manga since Link is still wearing the Fierce Deity's Mask when the salesman picks up Majora's Mask and Link's transformed state seems to try to attack him in an attempt to slice Majora's Mask in half. The strange part, however, is the fact that the salesman DODGES these attacks [you know, the attacks that just defeated Majora] and laughs before vanishing.
I really think the salesman is actually one of the members of the tribe that originally worshiped Majora and this is why he had such a strong interest in the mask. He even realizes the dark power is gone from the mask in the end of the game.
Who cares, though? The manga is not canon.
@@Goodbutevilgenius It's still interesting to pick up little snippets in other Zelda-related media to create your own theories about these strange characters in the Zelda universe. You seem to be a bit narrow-minded.
Something interesting I've heard about the mask salesman is he's a representation of Shigeru Miyamoto. Which makes sense to me because as a kid to me the mask salesman always seemed like a 4th wall break. Existing outside of the games reality, obviously being capable of getting the mask himself, being able to do things like pull a giant organ out of thin air to teach the song of healing to Link yet still relying on link. Almost like a game master. Definitely a very interesting way of creating termina.
3rd Possibility for Hino:
He's the descendant of that Moblin and the girl from Wind Waker, so his monster blood is getting agitated by the moon
I pick that couple because 1) I don't know of any other Monster/Hylian relationship, and 2) If there ARE other ones, well I'm sorry, they don't match the fucked upness of THAT pairing
... that makes complete sense and it's my new headcanon.

If you buy the idea of a "Fused Timeline" then this theory might have some credit to it.
But didn't they fall out of that "relationship"? I don't even think Moe the moblin had romantic interests. He just wanted to eat her like she was food.

Something that always made the Poe Collector even creepier to me personally was the fact that I never saw that red spot beneath his hood as a "glowing eye." Instead, to me it always looked like the bloody end of a neck stump, as if he was a headless corpse that somehow kept living.

Actually the creepiest charater is booger kid from Wind Waker. Always chasing you trying to smear his booger all over you. Truly terrifying
Beadle is still my fav dark character. The fact that he says he's going to hire assassins to kill link for not trading a beetle still unnerves me

Here's an idea, what if Hino isn't entirely human/hylian? What if there's a little bit of monster in his ancestry? Maybe a Grandparent or Great-Grandparent? And he's literally feeling the effects of the Blood Moon, just to a lesser degree than the monsters do.
Yes but now you have to wonder how the hell a monster ended up in his ancestry in the first place and I don’t think that’s a question many people would want to see the answer too 😂

The speedrunner is a separate being, it wears the face of the hero, those who have witnessed him describe him as strange but dangerous. Using bombs to somehow become faster or levitate. Capturing bugs only to release them and capture them again, turning around and playing his blade as an instrument.
None have seen him for long, as he tends to disappear after going through doors, following him only reveals he is no longer there.
Some have called him a ghost, others a trickster god, or even a folktale. One thing is for certain, his name is apt, for when he arrives, he is gone just as fast.
My personal headcanon for the poe collector has always been that he is missing his head and what we are seeing is just the wound left by it. I dont know why but i cannot unsee that ever since i was a kid.
Sort of like Bongo-Bongo, where the only thing that is seen of him( besides his hands) is his decapitated neck

Dang that Guardsman in the Guardhouse really did get what he wanted when ganondorf destroyed Castle Town and became the poe collector and I bet when he was guardsman he was secretly working for ganondorf and promised him more ghosts once he took over!
My guess is Pamela's father was able to make it back to the house before the curse took hold to the extent we see in the game.
One character that creeped me out like crazy when I first encountered him: Jovani in Twilight Princess.
I was twelve at the time, had just gotten the game and played for hours and hours. It was way past midnight and it was storming outside when I finally came across Jovani in the game. The sounds that creepy, golden statue made, the flashing gemstone-eyes, combined with the sleep-deprivation and the storm had me freak out, I shut the game off without saving and re-did the segment a week later xD
I totally agree with you. I was around ten the first time I saw Jovani, and although I never got to Castletown in my own playthrough, I used to watch a lot of gameplay of TP. Every time whoever I was watching would get to Jovani, I would skip ahead. The sounds he made, his creepy frowning expression and his movements later on just really bothered me. There are plenty of weird and unsettling Zelda characters out there, but for some reason, that guy just really freaked me out. At least he becomes more easy to look at once you free him.

The poe collector is clearly the Hylian guard. He even continues to carry the same spear he had in the past, albeit with the top and bottom broken off. He even kept some of the pots in the same areas, and probably remarks on Link's appearance due to the fact that they had originally met when Link was a young boy and the guard had recognized the fairylike features.
Omg I never knew Hino tweaked out during the Blood Moon. It’s amazing that I got this game on launch day and I’m STILL learning of new things
The guard also keeps saying he’s “so tired” and the strange cloaked figure is seen sitting on a bed, just found that curious is all

I still think that Nintendo might be hinting that Hino is part monster, himself. If you're a fan of the Pokémon series, you may remember that, in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, (in the original Japanese only) stories tell of a time when some Pokémon would marry people (Sinnoh Folk Story 3). Maybe they're implying that, in Hyrule, the same may exist between the races of Hyrule (or just Hylians?) & monsters. Maybe the monsters are actually part of the natural world, only they've been corrupted by Demise/Ganon for so long that they've fallen too far from the goddess' favor.
…Also, remember Moe, the Moblin from Wind Waker?

For me personally, I think the creepiest characters are the ghost soldiers from TP.
I have Phasmophobia and didn't do to well with them. Even though they're harmless and actually act as guides to help Link I was still uncomfortable and creeped out by them.
Their looks, the mystery to their deaths, all add up to make them super scary.

@@dankaroos6055 They're chill. They don't bother me because they're just opaque versions of the original soldier models. What gets me in the TP version is their faces, and actions. Not to mention their slight moans of anguish.
Ghosts overall don't scare me, but if a game crafts one just the right way I'm likely to just turn off the game.

The scene with Pamela and her father after you play the song of healing is always so touching in a darker themed game like Majora's Mask. A touch of light in the darkness of the world.
but they even still leave it off with sadness and a heavy heart with the what have i been doing this whole time and she respond with nothing dad...nothing , showing how fast she had to mature past her age and what she had to endure. its such great dialogue and atmosphere that they can't seem to rival today.
imagine if Hino was some sort of werecreature of sorts, like he's not how we perceive were creatures, he's got physicality of man but the spirit and possibly ""stats"" of a monster, maybe having some sort of small malice in his bloodline that hasn't been able to activate in his family due to the sealing of ganon, then over the passed 100 years, his family goes a little crazy, but due to the weakened amount of it, it does nothing but drive him mad

The story about pamela and her father brings me always near to tears. Nintendo should include or mention somehow these characters in a new Zelda.
yea the part that gets me is when the father says what have i been doing this whole time and she goes nothing dad nothing..so chilling such a bittersweet ending and great part of the game.

The well and Pamela reminds of the stories of children entering the lost woods without a fairy...

These videos are incredible, you do a great job setting a creepy atmosphere and do tons of research that show how truly passionate you are about these games
The Poe Collector and the Moon Children have always been some of my all time favorite fictional characters. Thanks Zeltik for your videos, I'm truly experiencing a whole new dimension to one of my most cherished childhood memories. I still have most Zelda games and old consoles in my house, all still working, and I cherish them just as much as the memories.
This is the first time I noticed how the Poe Collector may have been wearing torn up pieces of Zelda's dresses.

As they are many happy and wholesome moments, there are are many sad and creepy times...
If you read the name Hino backwards you would get Onih which might be a reference to an Oni. Is that why he‘s obsessed with the moon and the blood moon in general?
Despite the creepiness of what happened to Pamela’s father, seeing the 2 of them embrace was easily one of the most satisfying and wholesome moments of the Legend of Zelda.
I love when Zelda gets creepy. You don't think it does because it's so light, but then you get deeper and deeper the creepy gets better and better. I love when it gets really really creepy, those are usually the best parts in the whole game.
When I was playing BOTW for the first time, I believed there was a quest to do with Hino. So I waited for the blood moon to talk to him, and then I saw him running and saying things about blood and red. My only reaction was: "Well... that's weird." I forgot him, but now that I watched this video, I don't know if I will play the game again😂
I never knew the blood moon guy acted that way! Wow all this years and we still learn and discover new things in BotW!
Man, I never knew what the moon kids said, or that they had the Salesman face. That just adds all new layers of creep to what it all means. I do love how open ended it can all be though, digging through the mysteries and theories is fun.
I think the field with the lone tree is a dreamscape or illusion made the powers of the mask... The "safe space" if you will. Where nothing bad is happening; there's no pain, sadness, or end of the world. It's purgatory. By giving away your masks, you are fulfilling the happy mask saleman's wishes in a way, while accepting these masks are not your true self; they ask each time who are you, really? Link has to peel back more layers until he finds his true self, to reach the foundation; pretending to be anyone else will not do.
Fierce Deity is the strongest because that's what link connects to the most. This is who he is at his core; kokiri raised, with a big heart and love of community and family, a born warrior with strength and skills to match. The fierce deity is an amalgamation of the three races he first encountered as a child and "adult" that made him into who he is. That's why the game is designed so you cannot give those masks away. nor do the children want them. They are an integral part of Link's identity.
Also the fierce deity has red face paint...kinda like a certain barbarian set in botw. Eh? EH? HMMMM. Shouldn't be hard to realize the minish, kokiri, the sky people, the ancient people the water dragon from skyward sword speaks of, the koroks, zonai, possibly twili (though it's more likely to be the banished sheikah), usually seem to belong to the same general group throughout hyrule's history. Out of the primary races of hyrule, there's usually one that goes under a different name in every game. Illusions, tests of courage - looking at you, oot forest temple, verrry sus - the sheikah were never far though and often do the same.
the poe collector might have worn a shiekah mask because of the lone glowing eye covering almost all of his face.also, he said that he can read minds, which could also be referenced to the ability of the shiekah mask to read what the shiekah rocks are saying
I am super shocked that you didn’t pick anyone from Twilight Princess. The scene towards the middle with all the creepy laughing Ilia’s dropping from the air is the stuff of nightmares. And Zant’s nasty mouth is creepy too.
I've always found the moon so interesting, and what it could mean about the masked salesman or Majora is so captivating.

Funny. I've seen plenty of Hino but never bothered to see his reaction to a blood moon-chilling.
The Poe Collector holds a stick just like the Graveyard Kid does, his movements are similar, also the guard was taller it seems.
The soldier also holds a a stick, albeit a pointy one, and the gaurd seems taller because the poe collector is hunched over
I had always seen the poe collector’s ‘eye’ as a big nose sticking out of hood of the character’s clothing. It just seemed properly shaded and shaped that way

I would definitely say the happy mask salesman is the creepiest, especially because he is separate from the consequences of majoras mask. Monitoring you, taking the relic back and disappearing in thin air
I dont know how you still find things I hadn't heard of before. Even playing wind waker all the time as a kid, I never really thought about the white one very much
I always thought the Poe Collector just had a big red nose, not even once did I think of it as an eye until Zeltik mentioned it XD (it's still hard for me to think of it as an eye after seeing it as a nose since I was a kid, hahaha)

I always thought the Moon Children were meant to both parallel how the Skull Kid felt when the Giants left (them having fun somewhere else, leaving him all alone), and give a subtle origin story of how Majora's Mask became the way it is (becoming malevolent when the mask worshippers disappeared). The trials of the Moon Children and gradually giving up all your masks could be seen as subtly telling the player how the mask worshippers slowly faded out, until Majora's Mask was the only thing left.

In many of these games individuals that become interested in monsters/spirits become sinister or disturbed. Maybe it's from consuming dark spirits

The ider that the guard becomes the Poe collector makes the most sense. Especially if you consider what he says at night. I could say perhaps he's wearing a mask, but I think it more likely he was effected by Ganandorf's magic, perhaps cursed during an encounter in which he'd praised the dark lord.

This was a common way to show drunk people in older cartoons/comics, transported to Japanese iconography.
@@1r0zz see, that was what I meant, I wasn't joking around. In my head canon it is the same soldier found 7 years earlier. He must've surrendered to Ganondorf and survived and is now plagued by guilt and is heavily drinking because of that. The hints from the soldier himself about his interest in ghosts are evident enough for me.
I always thought the poe collector was indeed the Hylian guard from seven years prior, and his comments about reading thoughts and the single glowing eyes always meant to me that he somehow got the mask of truth, even if it doesn't have that effect in OoT.
Scariest is definitely the shop keeper in link's awakening like, he straight up kills you with a magic beam if you steal something

The ghost guy praises ganon in one of his dialogue so I think he became like that on his own accord. I think he struck a deal with ganon so he can peacefully live in hyrule collecting ghosts and he might be using his knowledge of ghosts to aid ganon hence why he said “who knows, maybe this knowledge can be useful”

After 3 years I've come with this for you about Poe Collector: perhaps his red glowing eye is an indication of the way Bongo Bongo was created. Accumulated hate, one single glaring eye and a connection with Royal Family/Sheika dark origins.
