Been watching your videos including older NPD videos and you guys are great fun to watch and learn from. I parked my 72' F-250 Camper Special 18 years ago and now I'm fired up to get it running!:) Keep up the great work and look forward to many more shows to come!

Looking forward to the installation of the new harness. Especially how you make the connections to the dash of you aren't going aftermarket.

That is the cool thing. All the connectors are factory connections. The only terminations you have to make are in the lights.

@@AutoRestoMod Very good to know, thank you! I was having issues with the starter solenoid in mine, and when I got to thinking about it, I think it's going to be an off frame restore... you know how it goes... Well, it would be easier to start if I rebuild the carb, so I might as well just do the whole top... and since that's off, might as well do the bottom.... which would be easier if I take it out.... and so since the engine is out I might as well rebuild the trans and rear end.... and as long as all of that is off, I might as well give the chassis a good going over... which would be easier with the cab off.... so I might as well get the body done too..... stupid Solenoid.... but at least I might as well put in a new harness while I'm at it...

@@root1657 hahaha in the middle of one of these restorations right now. "im just gonna change the front end suspension" is now a complete frame off re-build. 11 weeks in and got a couple more to go. Just installed a wiring harness as well, I went with Painless wiring harness instead of american autowire, pretty similar it seems though.

  • @jamesbascombe6869

I had to get the painless wiring harness for my 68. And it was a universal as that was the only one I could find for it. As to my crimper. I have a ranching type as it won't over crimp my connectors.
And the area behind the gauge panel on my 68 looked like a birds nest. I made it look a lot better when I put in the new harness.

Just an fyi, the harness retainer you broke under the hood comes out fairly easy from the bottom with needle nose pliers. But I guess you just planed on replacing it, "While you're there" 🤣(sorry couldn't help myself).
GREAT SHOW!!! Keep up the GREAT work!

Nice video, Jeff.... I've been thinking about rewiring my truck for quite some time now... I'm the 3 rd owner of my F-100 and was lucky that no one had butchered the harness...one of the previous owners had added an aftermarket Am/Fm/Cassette player, and a CB radio,, BUT didn't do any splicing...They ran the connections right to the Fuse box and to the Battery...
My biggest problem with my wiring has been,, most of the Plugins in the engine compartment...The plastic is very brittle and trying to take them apart without them braking is impossible ...Thus,, I've had to splice in replacements over the years, that I've scrounged up in salvage yards... and you can tell it right away....The harness is a mess...
Also, I've noticed under the Dash that the wiring is very, very stiff and no longer pliable....
SOooo, "while I'm Here"...... This is going to be my next project...lol
I'll be tuning in for your new harness Install video.... Love the out takes you throw in at the end, also....

    • @AutoRestoMod

This kit offers soooooo many possibilities! It won't look stock, but it also won't catch fire from a brittle wire casing...

I have a duct tape and bailing wire 72 f100.....so this is a perfect video for me. Mine had the ignition switch hanging loose from the dash. I tried to reinstall it, only to find it grounded to the dash and started to melt the wiring harness. A brief inspection revealed hacks and splices a plenty. :( I took the truck out of service until it's rebuilt. It's called a project for a reason i guess.

Jeff I love the video and I'm doing the same thing to my 68 f100. But I have run into a sang. I'm finding out that the amp is no longer supported by the kit. In order to keep the factory style usage and look and trying to not add any additional aftermarket gauges....What do you recommend doing in place of the old amp meter? Does anyone make a factory style voltmeter for these trucks now?

I’m having a difficult time with my 1979 Ford F100 wiring harness. Much of the people that work in auto stores don’t know. I been told by two people that a wiring harness from a 1972-1979 F100,F150,F350 are all the same and should work. Would you say so? I got the whole wiring harness off a 1973 Ford F100 but I’m looking at a few differences. Like the switch from my 1979 F100 has 10 prongs while the one I took of today from a 1973 has only 6 prongs. Could that be an issue?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ford changed the connectors a couple times over the years. If I were going to do a harness, I'd go with a complete one from a donor.

And if so,,, Would you consider bringing your Truck or any other of your Rides down ?? Just thought it'd be neat to see them in person,, Plus You and Cam also...lol

We are looking at these events for 2019: Cruising the Coast in Gulfport MS, Mustang week in Myrtle Beach SC, And I'd like to do a road trip to the Woodward Dream Cruise in the Swagon. I didn't know about the Run to the Sun, we will also look at bringing some cars to that...Cam and I might even stick around. LOL

Tried to see if autokrafters had a chassis harness for my 79 F100 and the icon goes to a dash clip. I'm guessing they don't have one? Or it's a hyperlink error? Anyways great video!

Man, one thing breeds another on the F100. Being hurt didn't help progress either. Took my ankle a month to get better enough to do pretty much anything but the essentials. Most of the wiring kits are pretty good. We've just gotten real familiar with the American Autowire system and really like the product.
