The whole world fell in love with Irish dancing after this performance.
I am astounded at the level of strength and endurance displayed here. That dance looks exhausting! But it is amazing to watch.
Yes very beautiful
Imagine the sheer amount of strength required to dance on the tips of your toes.
That night the "half time performance" stole the entire show!
true, no other interval show comes close
@@Dsl-p8s
Didn't that happen with Janet Jackson.😁
Apart from the Irish dancing which is beautiful, I love the drums, it wakes something almost primal within me, especially the Bodhran ❤
What was intended as the interval act stole the whole show a d became an international phenomenon. This was something special
I'm 52 and my ankles are STILL recovering from years of Irish Dancing from my childhood! Some of those dances play havoc on our ankles and shins. But, well worth it when you see the reaction of the audience.
did you have to put your feet in ice after performing?
@@vallee3140 Back then bags of ice in the local shop was unheard of. Basin of cold water from the tap was the norm.
@@TheGreenhillsCyclistInRagOrder but did it help much?
@@vallee3140 Yes it did. Help a great deal.
I used to employ 20 Irish girls in the summer season as chambermaids in my hotel. They’d roll up all innocent and crying as they missed their Mammies. Every Saturday night we’d go to our local and boy could those girls drink, Merrydown cider and pints of snakebite! We’d get in a lockdown and then they’d dance. The local lads were smitten, spent many an evening with kicked shins and bruised ankles trying to be taught the basics but what fun we had. My job was to keep them all happy, in one piece and try and be a surrogate Mam. First job to get them up on a Sunday morning so they could all turn up for mass. They could dance and sing like angels yet I had to teach them all how to make a bed as their Mammies did everything for them. Happy days!
I defy anybody not to be moved and amazed when they first see this...astonishing versatility..astounding finesse
I saw this live with my wife, who was a dancer. It was one of the most amazing things that both of us had ever seen. Makes me cry every time.
The people I really envy are the ones in the audience that night who were caught totally unaware of what to expect! It must have been a mind blowing experience,..........I’m from Ireland and I “ might” be a tad biased!🥰
I definitely felt it that night and wished I was there. The audience jumped to their feet!!!❤
I am a rock/metal fan, but this is truly genius. It’s MUSIC, involving instruments, skill and practice.
Every time I watch this, it's as fresh and exciting as it was the first time that night. Amazing.
I'm a 60 year old black woman who trained in ballet as a child . I fell in love with Riverdance because of it's similarities to ballet and tap. I'm actually learning Irish dance as a part of my physical therapy. I had a medical crisis in 2016 and ended up in a wheelchair but I'm using dance to gain back my strength. Even though I'm too old for the kicks and jumps, it's good exercise and I recommend it for anyone who loves dance, regardless of your race.. Irish hard shoe and American tap, are very similar dance styles. Dance crosses ALL cultures and I'm glad this young lady is experiencing this powerhouse phenomenon.🤗
Dia dhuit as Éireann 🇮🇪 Hello from Ireland , there is River Dance and also Lord of the Dance . You can see some of the dances from that show also . Glad you enjoyed watching Irish dancing unique to Ireland 🇮🇪. Do chara Pilib , ( your friend Pilib ) 😊
I feel blessed to have watched this live, it still makes me feel that I'm watching this for the first time, it will never be beaten
I remember sat in front on the TV watching this live as it happened. That beautiful haunting music just hypnotises you at the beginning. I dont remember any of the eurovision singers from that night but this is forever etched in my memory. Its lovely watching someone experience it for the first time, your face was just a look of pure astonishment and love! ❤
Dance, song, and music are the universal language. It's a beautiful thing; no matter where you come from you can always find this language that connects us all.
It's what makes us Irish. My 8 year old granddaughter just started Irish dancing. Makes me so proud.
I was 9 years old when this was broadcast live, I remember seeing it like it was yesterday. I knew I was witnessing something great and was so excited by what I saw I had troubles sleeping that night. Truly a masterpiece.
I’m so proud of the Irish blood that pulses through my veins when I watch this ❤😊
Desde luego, es una maravilla a mi me emociona y eso que soy francés pero cuando ves algo tan hermoso oufffffff.
Me too Erin Go Bragh Ireland Forever 🇮🇪
It still gives me chills every time
It amazes me
Michael Flatley is in the Guinness book of world records for the fastest amount of taps per second (37 per second).
It has never been beaten.
Craziest thing about thisbwas that it wasnt even the main event 😂 it was an interval and it completely blew the main event away.
Having seen River dance live, it was truly incredible. So what if I'm part Irish!!!! Lol And if you think it was easy just look at how hard they are all breathing when it finishes. Truly athletes!!!!!!
Hi Reactor 👍🏾 i remember this EUROVISION song contest from DUBLIN IRISH.1994❤️👁️🤯🇸🇪. i am from sweden and we are not famous dance people🎶👍🏻 like your country JAMAICA 🇯🇲 Everybody love Dance in Jamaica 🎶👍🏻 but i remember this Saturday 1994 when i saw this beautiful culture irish dance i was in chock because we always get on News about bombing and shooting in years from irish..so when i see 👁️ this RIVERDANCE performance it was just woderful and all the Swedish people as dancing to work in monday morning in Riverdance style ha ha ha ha ha. And it was wonderful to see 👁️ your react just because you are from a dancing culture the first you telling was that you know who hard this dance is to perform 🤯👍🏾🇯🇲. THX for a good reaction to Irish culture RIVERDANCE 🇸🇪❤️🇯🇲❤️🇸🇪
That's really moving thank you
That makes my heart sing love from Ireland.
I loved watching your face as you were watching!
All of the nations of the Eurovision for 1994 gave a standing ovation.
I have never had as much pride in my nation as back then.
still makes me cry every time,,saw it first live in dublin and to see it so is the only to do justice to the power of the music and dance
Your beautiful face. Your reaction is amazing. 🇨🇮
😊 thank you
thank you for your words and smiles :) I still remember this....... takes me back
29 yrs later and its still so captivating . Your lovely smiling face while watching the show was beautiful too..
I hope you look around a little more because that is just one part of the entire evening performance. There were some amazing performers that night. I've seen this I don't know how many times and still it makes me emotional. That performance literally broke World Records because of the speed of Michael and Jean's feet. This went viral without the aid of the internet.
Your reaction was amazing..something like my own the first time I watched it.. Greetings from Ireland ☘️☘️☘️.
Your reaction is so genuine and sweet.
Thank you
This makes me proud to be irish it still makes me cry and gjves me goosebumps when I watch it, its so beautiful
thank you for letting me share the riverdance with you¬
Thank you
I still remember watching this performance - it was unbelievable
TOTAL MAGIC - Nothing less !!!
I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
They created a full show with many songs and damces that has been touring the world constantly for the last 25 years from this one petformance. Its awesome.
Ireland here. Nice one :)
Thanks irieland for coming
Thanks , great reaction, love from Ireland
I was halfway up the stairs (nobody watches the halftime show!) and talking to my wife, who was downstairs. Suddenly, this incredible sound permeated my brain.....what the hell is this
Welcome to Riverdance! Every time you watch it (I think I’ve watched this at least 100 times in the last 30 years), your body will have the same reaction! Mine does, every single time.
But thanks so much for sharing your first reaction with us 🙏🏼 I love that you loved it 🥰
So good!
Was driving home from west of Ireland to Dublin that night ,listened to it on the car radio and was blown away, amazing !
Lovely reaction, I have found a few really good reactions to Riverdance, I'm so glad you liked it, I remember watching it at home and it eclipsed the actual Eurovision, which was crazy.
It's so good!
I have seen three things in my life that stunned me. One was Jean-Michelle Jarres mega concert in Huston. One was Shen Yun (look them up, now touring) … and the third. Guess what. Watching this at 12 years of age it hit me like a sledgehammer.
I loved your reaction. You seemed as moved by the music as well as the dancing. This blew the world away when this brief show was first seen. Its not completely tradions, Irish dancers usually keep their arms still. They adapted this to be a complete stage show which was a celebration of global dance and culture. I was lucky enough to see it a couple of years ago and it was spectacular
Greetings from Ireland ☘️
This was so amazing
I was four when it first time appeared.
It has been part of my childhood and it's what had made me like Irish dance and celtic music.
Just found your channel. I loved to see the expressions on your face! This is indeed a masterpiece and as some other people have suggested please watch the 1995 Riverdance show, the opening is magnificent! Whole body chills! Thank you and you got yourself a new sub!
Thank you so much!, I will be checking it out
So glad I found your podcast.Yes, that was the beginning.I know I'm a couple of months behind on your podcast, but please watch how vantasic River Dance has grown if you haven't already. Also please watch "2Cheloes".
Y'all need to check out the entire show, performed about a year after this. Little over an hour and a half of OMG.
Brilliant commentary and reaction 👌
Thank you
I saw this when it first broadcast. I just happened to come into the room when it was on and I was completely transfixed. No one expected it and the audience just went mad at the end which I never forgot.
I've watched the video so many times because it always cheers me up!
Dia duit
Agus buiochas mor leat as Eiireann🇮🇪☘️
Hello and big thanks from Ireland 🇯🇲
I went to both the Riverdance and Lord of the Dance stage shows that grew out of this and I have never seen a performance so beautiful.
What it has, that few seem to mention, is huge power through restraint. By holding back on arm movement and keeping it highly focussed it has a great sense of implied power
All the girls and boys in the coris were amateur dancers from different dancing schools. It still gives me goose bumps each time I see it and I'm from Ireland 🇮🇪
I love my Irish roots I love this
I love my irish roots too.
I love our Black sisters involved in our culture, already many nice fusions AFRICA-IRELAND. We're blessed!
Thank you
@@reactandrelaxtv4078 it is now 2024 and for those that don't know it, there is a black Irish dancer that posted her video on TH-cam and it caught the eye of one of Riverdance's lead dancers Padraic Moyles. He invited her to audition. The show is already ethnically diverse with Flamenco, Russian ballet and American tap but one day, it would be incredible if the lead roles and the dance line, were made up of different races. They do that already during the finale but it would be nice to see it, throughout the show and not just at the end. I realize that there are haters, who resist this idea but many also don't realize that when Michael Flatley left to create Lord of the Dance, one of his dancers was Asian. I'm black and I trained in ballet. Dance can bring us all together and I dismiss the ignorant haters...Let them be miserable while the rest of us enjoy this beautiful exhibition of art and creativity 😄🤗❤️💕🎶
If i tried any of those moves i would be in intensive care now. Must play hell with there legs.
Anuna. Harmonies from a heavenly dream😀
First time I heard Irish music when I was a kid I was hooked. 64 now, still hooked.
riverdancing was outlawed in Canada because too many people were drowning.
😂
That's a paddy Irish man joke for ya😂
its the only Eurovision internal act to receive a standing ovation, I think these days the audience is not seated but still, also that the president of Ireland, in red at 9:14
The Lady in Red in the audience is Mary Robinson, the President of Ireland, at the time.
Oh okay
The Riverdance Show is still going all this time later and a huge hit world wide. Enjoy the Show.
I remember when i watched this the first time i was mesmerised.
Brilliant such control skill elegance and tanacity love irish dancing and music its in my blood. GrandD was from Galway best ever video i watched it live still astounding talent ❤
Still great to watch
As an Irish person and this may be abit biased but we're deffo the best country In The world 😅
Irish step dancing is the ancestor of American tap dance. The rules for step dancing had been rigidly enforced for 200 years until Michael Flatley (along with a few others) realized that we had learned much about choreography and presentation during that period of time. What could be done, they wondered, to improve performance while still keeping to those rigid rules? The result was Riverdance. Its success enabled Flatley to create Lord Of The Dance which eliminated those rigid rules completely.
Irish dancing of all creeds is dated back for thousands of years Riverdance was a vibrant upgrade from its ancestors.
hello from Cork, Ireland.
Hello there! From Jamaica
whe saw it first time while it happend so whe never had seen that before in our live everyone loved it then..happy you enjoyed it to
It's so good! , I did
To this day I have no ability to understand how they do that. I saw this in the 1990s, but still...
This production brought Irish Dance to the forefront.
Irish perfection
Saw IslandGirlz Have Flow react to this with such joy, had to watch you too.
Fabulous
4.25 - here comes the peacock!
6.06 - like a moth to the flame!
.y five yr old son is anew recruit to irishdancing .his teacher even danced in the show .im so very helappyhe loves it.
Thank you so much for your appreciation ❤❤
Many Black people relate strongly to the tap dancing aspect of Riverdance, it's in their dna
Agreed. I'm black and I LOVE it !!!🤗❤️💕 I keep in touch with a woman who auditioned for Riverdance and I'm learning Irish dance. If I get good enough, we are thinking of coming up with an idea for a show.
It's a meeting courtship engagement wedding and celebration. Ireland is an independent nation in North eastern Europe
I dint like the idea of proud but this makes me very proud to be Irish.
As far as I can remember the lead male dancer that was 7 times world Irish Dance Champion, but I could be wrong.
Ok
The lady at the end in the audience was former Irish president Mary Robinson.
Ms Butler is a goddess
I am a self taught irish dancer! Learning from watching the show!
Its weird thing to understand, in the 80’s as a Irish kid I attended waking Irish wakes, where the sons and daughters of neighbors went to England for work and the neighbors would chuck what little English currency they had into a pot to help the traveling neighbors. In the 90’s the Irish soccer team had a English manger who woke the country up and we realized we where an entity worth recognizing. When the euro vision came about we watched the mid show and our jaws dropped. It was a celebration of been Irish and that year, nobody knew who won the competition, but we all knew who Riverdance where!
Oh wow, thanks for enlightening me
Perfection...
We learn Irish language and Irish dancing from our first days at school.
I had to give up tap dancing when I slipped and fell in the sink.
Nice to see you
Lovely video 👍🇮🇪🇮🇪
It's called dance in each fabulous islands of Ireland Scotland Wales and England check it out Gail country dance in all forms ❤❤
I'm glad you enjoyed this early version of Riverdance.
'Lord of the Dance' was a follow-up to 'Riverdance', which also featured Michael Flatley. I thought you might like to see the finale of that production. There are several encores of the final few minutes in response to audience reaction: th-cam.com/video/t3paj8aTHjI/w-d-xo.html
The Hungarian dance troupe Ondras used the soundtrack of the 'Lord of the Dance' to great comic effect: th-cam.com/video/i3XLzYU7H8o/w-d-xo.html
@@ibolyaszegedi1616 Just found your comment. Thank you for the additional information.
Still makes me a blubbering irish mess 😂
Have a Guiness. It'll help. ❤
@@diannelavoie5385 maybe I'll have a Murphy's instead .,😊
Great - Riverdance - Kind of Teletubbies on Speed!
What can i saw one of the smallest islands in the world we just do thing better ask conor
You have to watch the full 1995 show. There is so much more amazing dancing. Not just Irish, but Russian and Latin dancing too.
Ok I will check them out
I love the part when the flamenco dancer lady appeared ("Riverdance'' in 1995)
Seeing her (Maria Pages) and Michael Flatley dancing together was amazing.
