  • In this video, Finnegan the Portuguese Water Dog puppy shows off his skills by touching his new target stick. Teaching your dog to touch a target (whether your hand, stick, or floor target) is a great foundational cue!
Read about how (and why) you should teach your dog the touch cue in our article here: www.preventivevet.com/dogs/ho...
Not only is it really easy to teach, but it will help you practice loose leash walking and heeling, and is a perfect alternative cue to come-when-called. It's also useful to move your dog around without physical force, such as at the vet or if you need them to move away from something they're resource guarding.
In this video, Finnegan is practicing with the Karen Pryor Academy Clik Stik, available here: amzn.to/2xHbhQE
It has an extendable target stick with an easy-to-see ball target for your dog and a built-in clicker in the handle.
