Really interesting video, thanks for sharing your idea. Been considering doing something similar attempting to come up with economical upgrades since moving from bikes to cars. Potentially even a better fix given you get a new tool & set of skills! Thanks man! 👍
I would suggest to use the bottom half of the old intake and try to fit your alta intake on it somehow, since you got an extra one you may as well use it. That will ensure you're utilizing all the air coming from the bottom hose which also sucks up cold air which is not from the engine bay. Secondly you could follow the top hood scoop with the carbon fibre spoiler to channel the air coming from the top into the alta intake with the bottom box in place. Also you're going to have to open up the stopper on the hood scoop itself which is easy to do once you remove the hood scoop.
Wait, so your aftermarket air intake is taking in air from where, the hot engine? I thought you had already opened up this when installing the Alta intake....
For the most part yes. Anyone with an ALTA intake is basically sucking in HOT air LOL. My hood vent does however have some open holes but It will modified once I decide on which route Im going
Bimmer Dude have you seen this? Isn't this a more efficient/better solution? I know money wise it's not but, it's bolt on and is a PRO kit. All the best!
Bimmer Dude hey, thanks for the reply. I periodically see white smoke briefly. I don't smell anything at the time but at other times I smell a general hot metal smell from I believe inside the hood area. I've been advised that their is a small oil leak.
Yea I've seen them, they are all quite expensive and to my knowledge there is only one that is sold on its own out side of of a Cold Air Induction kit ( AEM ) and its something like 180$. Ill pass on it unless i crash and burn with this build LOL

You're gonna also have to remove the black heat shield which can be used in securing the carbon fibre spoiler as well.
I thought that only the early gen 1 models R50s have the headlights that stay put and there are holes in the bonnet for them. 🤔
Just get an r53, functional hood scoop factory!!!! BAM
Does r53 scoop fit on a r56?

Hey, Why does white smoke come from my hood scoop?
LL4ZYC4LAA sounds like burning oil to me friend . check your valve cover gasket . what does The smoke smell like?

Could just be condensation and heat venting out
Pop rivet some sheet metal to the hood bracing with an opening at the filter.
Buy a piece of sheet aluminum cut it with tin snips bend it and fed it to the hood like they would the plastic scoop vent
They do make kit
