These trees may have been under salt water for a long period of time. Back in the logging days in western Washington many trees were lost as they were sent to the bottom of the sound. About 90 years later, they started pulling them up and the salt water preserved the wood so well, that they became sought after.

The process for adjusting the thickness is called... "Thicknessing"... or "Thickness planing" the tool is called a Thickness Planer. The other purpose of this process is to make the 'thickness' of a board consistent from end to end.
Getting the greatest "yield" out of trees has got to be a difficult task.....lol, I used to use a saw w/ a 32foot blade & this was to get the highest yield out of various foams for airline seats. Different foams were used on the different parts of each seat and they had to have certain fireproof qualities. But foam was available whereas giant old trees aren't so much nowadays? interesting work .... peace
Its hard to watch this video and not see all of the extreme hazards these men face. With all of its OSHA violations in America this place would be shut down. Cant believe South Korea allows these men to be in such danger. Beautiful work though.
I hope they sell these tables at an appropriate price for the hundreds of years of growth that went into it. I also hope they compensate the wood seller accordingly. But maybe that would only drive more demand to cut down these old trees. There's no way this is sustainable. Lets say it takes 100 yrs to grow this big and you cut down 1 tree a day. You would have to have 36,500 trees in a rotation in order to be replacing what you cut.
And once these majestic trees are gone it'll take hundreds of years to replace. Look at them now, while still here. Take pictures for you grandchildren as they will never see one or smell one. Answer to this? BAMBOO

@10:58 - that's called a "thickness planer". Semi obvious, but it's a planer (has a spinning drum in it with several knives) that shaves the wood down to a certain thickness.
Yeah love that machine, sometimes in summer i worked in a carpentry. I had to plan trucks of wood😂 as a beginner. Witnessed epic Darwin award accidents with that machine...sometimes you have to clean the wood chips under the blade with a brush and one time a new guy (he was a carpenter by the way) decided to clean it with his hand...passed the hand under the machine with 5 finger and pulled it out with three fingers. He is still working there🎉
In the dirty house episode. They put the dirty beddings, with obvious urine stains. back on the bed. UHHH! But the rest of the clean up was like night an day. LOL WOW!
Ha. My desk table is made out of one of those fancy woods. Has a natural finished edge hand carved by a natural hooman some 60 years ago. Weird turned legs attached at weird angles only a natural hooman can hand make. Like for dark but my table is becoming light over all the years I abuse it. I think of it as a nice patina. Once every 20 years (never) give it some oil for protect from severe hooman artificial abuse. Neat! Titebond in Korea. I made videos for Titebond for years. Always been a chill company. You can never ever have enough clamps. Ever.
How did they load these in the container? Also, wouldn't have been better to leave the tree to live another thousand years? Rather than make ot into a table for rich aholes?
