TomasZ SzamoT not sure that’s just what I read on a forum but I know it’s official Nurburgring times was 12 faster than the ep3 according to a track time forum
Well, according to this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Top_Gear_test_track_Power_Lap_times 01:32.8 Honda Civic Type-R (2004 Facelift) 01:33.5 Honda Civic Type-R (FN2-2007) 01:38.06 Honda Civic Type-R (EP3) So facelift EP3 is faster than FN2
It's funny because Clarkson slated it but the stig voted it the best in the top gear magazine Haha, ill take the stigs recommendation anyway, (and I did) mines running 256 hp which is more than enough in one if these.
I’m lucky to have a FK2 also. The FK2 just doesn’t sound quite as nice. You can only get your foot down for 2 or 3 seconds before doing crazy licence losing speed. I would say, arguably, the FN2 is a little more usable fun on the streets. That’s not withstanding the suspension, which can only be described as being thrown down a flight of stairs! Enjoy your FN2, you miss it if you let it go.
Bad rep? Huh? I drove it first onlya a couple weeks ago( always loved it tho ). Still give me goose bumps, the sounds is not even half close whats like in real life. Clarkson is a legend, but he was so wrong about this fn2.. this little its much better then people think. Try one..
I love all Type r. But, to be honest I think the FN2 is a bit special. 13 years later and it still looks fresh. The LSD feels like the Tyres have hooks in the tarmac. The drive home always makes up for a bad day at work, love it!
I have the fn2 2007 model, so unfortunately no LSD.. do you know where i can get my hands on one? Preferably the same ones as they use in the 2010 models, champion white etc.
We have owned 5 type Rs in our family so I would like to give my thoughts. These were, 2 Ep3,s 2 FN2,s plus an Integra DC2 owned by my two sons and I, one of the FN2S was mine (Championship White model). All these cars are a great driving experience. The EP3 is a great car and in my opinion has a better gearbox than the FN2 which is definitely not as slick as the EP3. The engines are very similar apart from the different Vtec cross over rpm speeds. The ride is the biggest difference with the FN2 being too firm in the main, not to bad in the front but on the wrong roads would shake your fillings loose sitting in the back. Having said all that if you are traveling at very high speeds this rigidity works in the FN2,s favor being a far more stable platform than a standard EP3 which would get a tad twitchy getting close to 3 figures. I think that when the EP3,s came out it was such a game changer in performance that it set the benchmark for all other hot hatches, so when the FN2 arrived the press expected another big leap in performance and in essence the engines are pretty much the same which was ridiculed by the likes of Clarkson and co. For me the pick of the bunch is the DC2 Integra being far more old school and handles beautifully.
As an owner of a 2007 FN2 since 4 years I can tell you that yes the confort/ride is utterly rubbish. But I've tested an EP3 with 248hp on a good country road and the car feels way lighter and easy to place into corner (tripod mod ^^) the drawbag is that yes the VTEC is quit at the top of the rev range and I didn't felt VTEC kicked in as much as my fn2. The FN2 is amazingly stable when you're inside the corner/bend. But as a drawbag still you feel the lack of lsd and the rear axle which is not as agile as the EP3. So to conclude, if you want something utterly fun about the chassis, take an EP3. Otherwise if you want a bit of confort (cruise control/sat nav) for every day and a lot of fun about these special engines, an original look and confidence/stability into the bends take the FN2 . I'll never sell mine for anything in the world. And even if you're a fan of Clarkson or whatever, don't give a shit about what he says try one and then you'll be able to talk..
Nice video bud, Im a fd2 owner and that was released at the same time as the fn2. Far superior in every way. That’s the k20 you need you experience. Keep up the good work bud.
A lot more expensive but the fd2 is a very special car bud. All the good special Honda’s going one way with their prices. 10k plus for a clean Dc2 now. Fd2 definitely worth the premium in my opinion 👌 I love mine and it gets great feedback by many folk.
A really good review. I much prefer the look of this to its legendary predecessor. I have a 2.0 Euro Accord and it’s so beautifully built, I really fancy a type R now!
I love this car. Owned mine for 3 months now, every time I drive is an absolute joy. There's a huge fanbase for this car, customisation is endless and you can truly make it your car. Loads of boot space too, it's a really practical car I can't see myself changing it within 5 years.
@@gamerz8541 yep lol. 4 years this April. 2007 model and it passes MOT with zero real advisories (bonnet currently doesn’t have a stay to hold it up). Still enjoy driving it (lots of b-roads where I live) and I’ve been attending car shows last year, gets a good amount of attention/compliments. Next step is probably forced induction but not sure I can square that with the wife 😂
@@JacquesBauer89what mods have you done to it? If you have any lol. I’m really considering getting one, but I’m such a perfectionist so when i hear one bad thing it’s holding me back.. so is there anything to do about the bad suspension? The ones on sale near me is all the 2007 models, so do you know where i can get the LSD they use in champion white etc.? And is there a way to fix the understeering? Sorry if it’s bad questions, I’m just new to cars. Thank you
It's funny that everybody forgets what difference the factory fitted LSD made to these cars. They did the late models and the Championship Whites this way. Completely transforming it. So - as these cars are dirt cheap in the UK - get yourself a decent FN2 and fit an LSD to it. You'll have a lot of fun.
You buy the car for the engine but get racing seats a platform for heaps of mods, over in Aus the car cost $8k to 9k, a Dc2R would cost $12000+ so I just went with the FN2R, even though it has its downsides, the car is great for a daily, enough power to have fun at a set of lights when racing non-car people
Unlike most of you, I live in the US and we have only just gotten the Type R version. Previously we had Civics which were not always hatchbacks. I had a 2007 Civic Si in a 4 door sedan body style, and it too had the 2 liter VTEC. It handled wonderfully, and was built very well. It had 2 speeds: slower than a bicycle around town where it was a torque-less wonder, or hair on fire when the revs were up. No midrange whatsoever. In my opinion, the FN2 is far better looking than the EP3. The EP3 we had here had 5 speeds and was geared terribly for highway driving.
I owned one for5 yrs , not a single fault. Clarkson was a d******* with his review , but was right about the rock hard ride. I regrettably sold mine 11yrs old and like new. The engine is a masterpiece . The seats best in the business , the handling very very sharp and good BUT SAFE . Overall a brilliant package and I sorely miss my little FN2. I have also owned an accord type R which on balance is one of the best cars ever put on UK roads . Now run a dc5 at weekend's its a monster
It's more stable, less nervous, much better interior than in its predecessor - more refined. And I know that this is matter of taste - but for me it's prettier than IX / X gen.. It's not like everyone have to cut fractions of the seconds on theirs way work/home.. Also in topic of downforce on the rear axle - without proper one it's easier to spin FF the car on high speed corners..
Couldn't agree more. So many people get that wrong about front drive cars and rear wings. FWD cars benefit from rear downforce just as much as RWD cars do, they both have rear wheels after all, and they need traction in corners (which is one of the main benefits of rear aero devices). I won't get into the spoiler vs wing thing either.
the thing is that everyone here in Germany drives a Golf GTI, its a so boring car over here. With a FN2 TypeR you get much more attention because its a very rare and special over here.
I’ve had my FN2 for 8 years and it handles daily 140mph commutes well. On A roads, not a motorway. My mate also has a modified EP3 facelift. We’ve had them both flat tap for minutes at a time and there is very little in it, with the FN2 being marginally better around corners. A standard EP3 wouldn’t keep up as they are too wobbly. My FN2 is standard.
Great review. The fn2 is a superb hot hatch, have had mine (07 bronze) for 3 years now and love it as much as when i first bought it. Great looks and performance.
Great review - it's interesting how perspective changes as the car grows older. Whilst the EP3 is a great car, it does genuinely look like a van and it's legendary reputation does push the price up in comparison to the FN2. The FN2 is also pretty clever when it comes to packaging, the boot is huge for a car in this class, if that matters to you! In the UK at least they're great value too compared to something like a Golf GTI, and arguably more reliable.
Still a great car! Just not as good as the predecessor! Ep3 is lighter and has independent rear suspension which makes a big difference on track. Slap hondata k100 remap on one and you have v tec low down 👌
Having owned both i think I can sum the debate up. Drive an FN2 for a week, then get back in your EP3. World's apart. I was going to keep both but sold the EP3 shortly after. The FN2 made the EP3 feel suddenly very old.
Exactly the same and couldn't have said it better myself.....owned both loved my ep3 thought it was fantastic and it was then bought a 1 yr old fn2 in alabaster silver with all the extras on and never looked back and it was as quick despite what people think had many great years motoring in both before moving on...if somebody gave me the choice now to own one again I would jump in the fn2 everyday of the week.
I’ve owned an ep3 and currently own an fn2, the fn2 is a lot better in a lot ways. Ep3 doesn’t handle better, fn2 has a far better chassis and steering, engine is better. I’ve also driven an fd2 and a dc5 and while they are great and better than the fn2, not by much mind you, they aren’t worth the massive amount of extra money over the fn2.
They don’t weigh that much more, it’s about 60/65 kg. It’s like the Clio rs, that had torsion beams suspension and always handled better than the ep3, the same is for the fn2, the whole thing of the fn2 being rubbish because of the torsion beam is blown all out of proportion. I’d never go back to an ep3 from an fn2 unless it was a jdm ep3.
@@FenderUsa jeremy is full of shit mate, i was on the market for ep3 but ended up with a championship white fn2 with lsd. i tell you the fn2 is so much more confidence inspiring aroud the corners and i recently installed coilovers which makes it even better. ep3 feels a bit more raw but in every other aspects such as fn2 is better
Just a shame they ruined the fn2 with a beam axle, ep3 was crap handling as standard until you changed various suspension parts loved mine and would definitely get another but fn2 bullet proof and great fun for what they are 👍
Andy the rear beam is fine mate its why Honda used the same chassis in the FK2 the independent rear setup helped disguise what was really a crap chassis in the ep3 derived from the honda stream people carrier 😆
If you think that’s the best Civic for vtec experience, please try its grandad, the EK9 type R! I have an FN2, and had an EK9 a few years back, for me the EK9 (although not as fast, but about 300/400 kg lighter) was the sharper sword with the most amount of fun/smiles/vtec laughs! Agreed on the FN2’s suspension, it’s horrendously crashy, still can’t get over how bad it is!
A fair review, the vast majority of drivers won't have the talent to drive either this or the EP3 to the point where the handling is noticeable, especially not on regular roads. The steering complaint is pretty much every car of that era with electric power steering. I see the FN2 being sought after sooner or later as it's one of the last NA hot hatches, as in the video it is double edged as they suck outside of the power band but arguably offer a purer driving experience than a modern turbo hatch.
It's a bloody bold design. Pushed the boat out aesthetically more than the Mk1 Focus or the Mk1 TT. The FN2 is a car that seemed compromised by the 8G platform. The EP3 looks and feels like the vision for the 7G, and every other variant was a compromise to suit all budgets. The FN2 is a decent stand alone car, but for similar money, maybe a few extra quid, I'd sooner have a Megane 225, a 182 or even a Mini R53 with a pulley swap.
Only thing that makes this car look old is if you look at headlights from distance... it has old car vibes because of them. But if you look at front from little bit side then it compares with modern cars and often it does look better than them. Its a 2006 design and we have 2024 and it aged very well.
Had one of these for 8 years and had an EP3 before. This video is pretty much on point, It has been a fantastic car, not one issue in that time and pretty cheap to run. While you can certainly feel the extra weight over an EP3 i always thought the FN2 felt more planted and with much better steering. The only downside is the ride quality around town. I might change it for an FK2 next year but it will be missed, if you are looking for a quick, cheap and reliable car then this is it.
I had a passenger lap around Bedford in a Championship White edition with EVO many years ago, and that car felt pants from my side of the car. Definitely a 'miss' when it comes to hot hatches. Remember, Clio 182/Trophy is the way to go.
Funny how this chassis is really a Honda Fit Type R. Power output wise it’s pretty much even with the USDM K20Z3 from the Civic Si. At least prices are reasonable for you UK friends.
Suspension is hard and crashy over bumps but the fixed rear suspension means the car is nowhere as compliant and easy to dart from corner to corner, we a propensity to understeer. The interior is better in some ways but the seat adjustment is a pain and if you move the seat to get to the rear the seat goes back to default so you have to reset the whole position to drive! The car is heavier and slower than the one it replaced with worse suspension and 1bhp more. I have driven a super charged one and great but its still got pants suspension, you can get better coils to help but the cost cutting rear beam is what killed this car, that and it needed 220bhp stock.
great review, but on thing about the downforce, this is often mentioned about FWD cars, and actually the scenario where downforce is contributing to the traction of the rear wheels is few and far between on road cars. the wing is usually contributing more to the straight line stability and cornering grip rather than traction, due to the fact that at slow speeds where you need the traction, you don't have enough speed to generate any downforce anyway. obviously in super cars this plays a bigger part with traction at higher speeds.
A friend of mine had a DC5 and FN2. Now he drives a FD2 every day. The FD2 is much more hardcore, much stiffer and faster. I love to ride in that car, It was even my wedding car. 👌🏻🔥
Always loved Hondas! Owned an old 1.6vtec went like a bullet!!! Loved the location of the gearkbob... top gear and auto car are sponsored to recommend which ever car they are bribed too!!! Normally a BMW Audi etc.... I would happily have an old one with fsh in red 😉👌 and the new one....omf!!!! What a car 😊
I do a 800 mile there and back every year with this car and I can tell you it's an easy motorway basher. On my 400mile run one way I got 39mpg too, this car is decent. I've driven my brothers chipped scirrocco r and even though it is faster, not nearly as fun to drive as one of these. Vtec is something that is special and I really dont want to let it go but 200hp isn't that much after a couple years ownership. Now one of these turbod Probably waste most hatchbacks.
Had this car for 7 years. Bought from new. Drove it to 100.000 miles. Drove all around Europe. Did a 24h non stop drive from austria to south of Spain. Never failed. Bullet proof car. Look, fuck clarkson. This car was faster than the ep3 and golf gti.
Your so lucky in Australia ep3’s are at least 20k and the fns which i have a soft spot for are 15ish, im actually a bug fan of the lil bubbles they are a mixture of fun and responsible so it makes for a good inner city experience in my opinion
I nearly got a type r fn2, loved the engine but couldn’t accept the suspension, also I tend to like cars with glass roofs which the type r doesn’t have. A lot of abused type rs on the market to be careful when buying. Ended up with a mint type s instead, better suspension (but still not great), glass roof, more comfortable, much better fuel economy and running costs. Sure it didn’t have the type r magic but did have enough to have fun :-) Also this car is super practical!
I'm in exactly the same predicament right now mate. Saw a 2.2 diesels and type r civics today. Tomorrow gonna view the type s 2.2. Which one do u have? How does it feel everyday driving it?
@@Teddymac86 Hi. I ended up buying the 1.8 petrol type s manual 3 door from 2005. I just couldn't find a good enough example of a type r in my budget, they were either clearly abused or from traders with zero history and suspicious noises... And I didn't have the patience to drive up and down the country. If I found a good r I would have probably bought it. What I got in the end was a clean type s gt, great spec, from a decent private seller, and it was fine as a daily. I ended up changing the clutch as it was too heavy for my liking so pay attention to that. Cost me £500 ish incl labour. I also tested the ishift auto, not your usual auto but for city driving I reckon it's doable if you learn how to use it (although many people advise against it). I changed the gear knob & gaiter immediately as it was awful! I am not a diesel guy, prefer high revving petrols every time, but heard the 2.2 has it's advantages. My petrol could do 40mpg + average, good enough. Comfortable seats, could fit 5 adults easy, ridiculously huge boot. I found one with a spare wheel (vs fix a flat foam) which I recommend for peace of mind. Crashy suspension was very annoying, also cheap plastics and stereo, but thats about the only negatives. Great design, I liked the dash with central rev counter a lot, super original which I value. No issues with reliability at all maybe apart from electric folding mirrors but that was an easy fix. I hope you find a good example! I now sold it for a mx5 nc, very different car but a lot of fun, plus I don't really need a practical car that much. I miss the honda seats though, the ones in the mx5 are no good.
@@MP_pov yeah looking at diesels ones but type r is a high revving Beast! Will be looking at the 2.2 type s diesel tomorrow. It's going for £1500 and type r one I saw is going for £3000. Any recommendations or what u would go for?
@@Teddymac86 Depends what you can afford realistically and how high is fun on your priority list haha. The type r will cost a lot more in petrol for sure but a good example will keep putting a smile on your face for sure. £1500 for 2.2., hmm, I would look closely at the condition. Seems very low but then again I am not up to date with prices. My 2005 1.8 type s with 95000 miles if I remember correctly went for £3k last summer which I thought was a steal, type rs were around the same money at the time but again most were from traders which I am always trying to avoid.
Problem was more weight with too little power increase and also more understeer. Regarding its looks I like the mugen styled ones not the standard ones.
Great video. You're right that the biggest problem with the FN2 is that the EP3 is so good. It's just such a damn shame that the EP3 is one of the ugliest cars ever made. There's not one thing that doesn't look fussy, it all looks a bit "off" in a way that's hard to sum up. Plus, the rear and front lights are a mess, the windscreen angle is too steep for the rear glass angle and the dashboard and interior is awful. Amazing cars but I just couldn't own one. To be fair though, the FN2 looked cutting edge when it came out and it's starting to look a little weird unless in Type R trim and/or Black. 😂
Had both and loved both. Had the FN2 for 8 years almost and it’s not only fun but it’s practicality is incredible, 6fters in the back in comfort and 470 litre boot. With a crazy VTEC engine. Sure it’s not uber quick but enough to keep you entertained. Flawed gem.
My other half has a standard 1.8 while not powerful it goes pretty well for what it is.... FN2 typre R is deffinitely in my thoughts.... Pretty rough roads where I live tho..... Are there any kits to give it a bit more hight and suppleness without making it less sporty.. A rally esque kit ??
Having driven the 150 hp version of this generation Civic for a couple of weeks, I can confirm most of the criticism. I had a Mk 5 Golf GTI back then and the luke-warm Civic had a much worse ride and chassis than the hot Golf. The GTI was actually more comfortable under most circumstances than the Civic. It also felt much bigger than the Golf, the leather on the seats felt cheaper and the rear doors were shaped in such a way that uninitiated, normal-sized back-seat-passengers could easily hit their heads when entering or exiting the car. And while I loved the Star-Trek-dash, the interior wasn't quite up there WRT quality when compared to a Golf, either. Still: To this day I really like the styling of the Civic, inside and out, both on the Type R and on "normal" trim-lines. The main reasons why I would always go for the Golf (again) are size (the Civic is just too large for my taste), the Honda's inferior suspension and my suspicion that the 201hp version of that engine will feel stressed out by this heavier Civic.
FN2 was slated because it didn't move the game on enough from the EP3 6 years prior. The EP3 had a clear lead in 2001, but by the time this came out in 2007, rivals had far surpassed it. The Focus ST, Renault Megane R26 and Golf GTi were out before and they all ran rings around this car. More power, better chassis, better tuning. Heck, even the Leon Cupra smoked it, and I don't just mean in raw power. The FN2 just wasn't a big enough improvement. It was gradually improved with the later editions that had LSDs, but by then a fresh set of rivals arrived and widened the yawning chasm. The Megane 250 cup in 2010 and the 265 Trophy a year later just leaves it for dead. It's chassis was (and still is) world class. Embarrasses this on every level.
Fn2 w/ bilstein / tein street, lsd, fd2 oil pump, a nice 2 din and no one will ever think of an ep3. Better 'public image', much nicer interior, nicer k20, looks nice, the only thing it really needs it's better dampers and springs.
@@cutdepiefails6596 looking to spend about 2.5k 08 plate never drove a type r so dont know if I be underwhelmed by the power especially having mostly turbo diesels and lots of torque
@@leonpalmer2429 total opposite, if you drive it like a diesel it will be quite shit, if you rag it like a dirty thing it will be a dream. If you get your peddal game right, it will be even better. P.S. you brits are some lucky bastards, I paid 14k euros for mine a couple of years ago and it was, in my market, a bloody steal. Try stretching out the budget a bit and get an already modded one, 20-50 hp might not seem much on paper but in a k20 it will go like any 300hp standard car. Try to find one with brembos (upgrade), lsd, fd2 oil pump and fresh. You have a very nice type r forum in the uk, typerowners try find one on classifieds. To me a 250hp, brembo, lsd, fd2 oil pump, sorted suspension, 2 din+speaker upgrade fn2, is just the perfect hot hatch of all time. Better than the megane (that I loved), better than the golfs and anything I can imagine.
I’m saving for one of these from today. There’s nothing not to like imo especially for the price. I’m really hoping to get one with the huge sick spoiler.
If I see the prices in GB I wonder is it ure not in EU or what u never get them for so few money here in Germany. Have seen this crazy price difference also on wheeler dealers.
Ep3 maybe drives better but if I have to choose I go for fn2 because how it looks. It's best looking Honda to today. I have standard g7 1.6 and it drives good but it's little bit... without soul really
I've tested an EP3 and i decided straight away to follow my real dream s2000. Anyway just like it says in this vid. FN2 looks much better than Ep3. I think i would choose this over Ep3. If all S2k's and Preludes would be finished
The suspension is definitely too firm for country roads, second gear synchro is going to shit itself, the paint is terrible (especially at the top of the windscreen) but its a fun and easy car to go fast in with great seats and an amazing engine that was the end of an era. Going from a wrx to an fn2 to an HR 350z I can tell you when you get a nice freshly tarmacked winding piece of road you felt like you're in a little touring car, which is sensation not many cars offer.
Or get the diesel version second hand with the same chassis, goes like stink standard but can chip to 200bhp np and that engine is built to do a million miles lol. I have an accord 215k town miles as new. Got the wife a diesel 07 civic full history 120k miles for 700 quids on the road and will last years. awesome second hand value for money plus good on fuel.
Its got ep3 engine with better interior, exterior and way more refined. It doesn't handle as good as ep3 but it is way more of a car. Cruise control, climate control, traction control, digital speedometer, electric folding mirrors, Centre arm rest, refrigerated glove box, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and aux etc etc
Mind if I ask how much was the suspension? Really thinking about swapping mine out too but I'm not sure how much to spend. I'd love for it to be more comfortable on these bad UK roads!
@@JackScarlett1 Thinking about getting something this size. FN Type R, Golf V GTI, Audi A3/S3 or Giulietta QV. Golf has the most boring design interior, and bland exterior. A3/S3 for its price tag is shamefully build of plastic. Type R has poor torque. Giulietta QV... nobody talks anything about Giulietta.. I started considering E46 330Ci at this point, since it offers built, materials, power and torque plus RWD. Can you tell, if Type R is really so bad?

It's funny because Clarkson slated it but the stig voted it the best in the top gear magazine Haha, ill take the stigs recommendation anyway, (and I did) mines running 256 hp which is more than enough in one if these.
What mods do you have for 256? I’m running around 246 and could do with a LSD now.
had mine for a year prefered it over my 2 ep3s lol saving for a fk2
I’m lucky to have a FK2 also. The FK2 just doesn’t sound quite as nice. You can only get your foot down for 2 or 3 seconds before doing crazy licence losing speed. It’s a damn good car. It’s not the quickest car around but it’s great fun.
I like the fn2 type R it's got love in the Honda community
Cmcdee-Vtec except a lot more expensive lol
Have you still got it?
Thank you
Another great review buddy, I drove the Championship white edition about a year ago and loved it. Keep it up! 😎✌️
You buy the car for the engine but get racing seats a platform for heaps of mods, over in Aus the car cost $8k to 9k, a Dc2R would cost $12000+ so I just went with the FN2R, even though it has its downsides, the car is great for a daily, enough power to have fun at a set of lights when racing non-car people
i agree with you, i got my fn2 last year for 14k still a ton of car for the money
The chassis of this car is something... Perfect!
Give this guy a proper cinematographer and this channel will dominate the YT automotive scenery.
I've got one now! Just need some proper sound equipment and were laughing. Thanks for the kind words
Jack Scarlett can’t wait to see the next videos!
True in England too!
No way is an fn2 better on tight corners
@@Twongz_does_anything I’d say you’re probably right. The roads I’m talking about are the Isle of Man TT course, which is mainly 80mph+ bends.
Had mine 8 years, still love it. You need to drive a nicely mod'd one ;) Stock is good, but they can be improved loads.

EP3 is slightly overrated. Horrible interior, random gearstick placement.. much prefer the EK9 with its LSD, Recaros and 5-speed gearbox.

Well presented in-biased take on what I suspect will become a sought after car in years to come. Really enjoyed this
Great review - it's interesting how perspective changes as the car grows older.
I’ve also driven an fd2 and a dc5 and while they are great and better than the fn2, not by much mind you, they aren’t worth the massive amount of extra money over the fn2.
serious? first i've heard of the FN2 handling better, due to the torsion beam and weight

ZirZamin production ! The lsd in the fn2 makes a huge difference it really does make the fn2 one of the best handling CTR’s

Another great review, not that you need to be told jack. Great editing, keep up the good work mate
And every single civic ever made from 2003 to now, this one is still the most popular civic on the road.
Is there a way to change the bad suspension? I’m pretty new to cars etc.
The FN2 has aged really well, that interior is so good, and still looks special, and the exterior is even better.
Only thing that makes this car look old is if you look at headlights from distance... it has old car vibes because of them. But if you look at front from little bit side then it compares with modern cars and often it does look better than them. Its a 2006 design and we have 2024 and it aged very well.
This car still looks modern. Just add some LEDs and you could pass it off as a 2021 design
Only thing about fn2 is it can be quite heavy on fuel oh and the road tax too
I had a passenger lap around Bedford in a Championship White edition with EVO many years ago, and that car felt pants from my side of the car. Definitely a 'miss' when it comes to hot hatches. Remember, Clio 182/Trophy is the way to go.
Fair play, I agree that the 182 is definitely a better choice if you're going anywhere near a track. Don't know if I'd want to live with one though
whilst 182s are good on track, they are in my opinion better as a b-road warrior. 100% a daily hence so many have 100k+ miles
Until they break down or crumble away😂
@@steviekfc1869 bodywork wise they will out last any honda as they don't rust (phase 2s don't anyway)
Not sure why everyone rags out on it. Great car, great reliable engine. And when you crack it open, you can make a nice omelette 😝
Funny how this chassis is really a Honda Fit Type R. Power output wise it’s pretty much even with the USDM K20Z3 from the Civic Si. At least prices are reasonable for you UK friends.
That usdm market Si is brilliant. They all came with the factory LSD unlike the FN2. It will be a sad sad day when mine eventually dies.
Interesting, In Poland FN2 Type R costs from 7000 gbp to 10000gbp.
Filip Must be because of insurance costs. Insurance in the UK costs like 4-10 thousand pounds per year
@@justaguy9224 I pay 300 for the year on my fn2
Ep3 for me, lighter, independent rear suspension! More fun on a track!
great review, but on thing about the downforce, this is often mentioned about FWD cars, and actually the scenario where downforce is contributing to the traction of the rear wheels is few and far between on road cars. the wing is usually contributing more to the straight line stability and cornering grip rather than traction, due to the fact that at slow speeds where you need the traction, you don't have enough speed to generate any downforce anyway. obviously in super cars this plays a bigger part with traction at higher speeds.
GREAT REVIEW! NOW PLEASE GET YOUR HANDS ON A FD2 TYPE R AND REVIEW IT!! PLEASEEE

Seems very low but then again I am not up to date with prices. My 2005 1.8 type s with 95000 miles if I remember correctly went for £3k last summer which I thought was a steal, type rs were around the same money at the time but again most were from traders which I am always trying to avoid.

UFO is so good looking car. Great design.
+ for EP3 is a rear independent suspession, + for FN2 is all rest :)
I had the standard 1.8 l petrol and it was fab. I’d love the type R but it would need to be 5 door for the kids.
Had both and loved both. Had the FN2 for 8 years almost and it’s not only fun but it’s practicality is incredible, 6fters in the back in comfort and 470 litre boot. With a crazy VTEC engine. Sure it’s not uber quick but enough to keep you entertained. Flawed gem.

Your comparing apples to pears, you need to drive a type r not a crappy base model civic.
Drive a ep3 type r and you will find your golf boring to drive afterwards
Many years later I wonder how many Megane's are still on the road compared to these though...
Fn2 w/ bilstein / tein street, lsd, fd2 oil pump, a nice 2 din and no one will ever think of an ep3. Better 'public image', much nicer interior, nicer k20, looks nice, the only thing it really needs it's better dampers and springs.

Loved my FN2 after I changed to KW3 suspension and tuned it to have more mid range and put in a Wavtrac LSD.
Mind if I ask how much was the suspension? Really thinking about swapping mine out too but I'm not sure how much to spend. I'd love for it to be more comfortable on these bad UK roads!
@@jonathan___4684 Probably a KW setup for comfort.
Nothing like opening up the video with roasting Will Smith's son to Chinese instrumental music.
The best looking Civic. But the crash safety and engine are bad (high fuel consumption for the power).
I have this car and it's the best🥊
Such a good looking car
Had 2 of these cars. Loved them, only criticism I had was the ride. As he said, it would tear u a new asshole
This or your mk5 gti?! I'm looking to get a mk5 gti, but this is definitely a contender
Mk5 stage 1 will be way faster than one of these
I test drove both before buying and went for the GTI
@@JackScarlett1 yea the gti is so much more fun. Plus like i said a few mods and you will get way more power with the gti than what the honda can do.

Thinking about getting something this size.
@@JackScarlett1 golfs are boring as fuck compared to the fn2 type r
So the glass half empty would be you get a great engine but you have to take the rest of the car along with it.
