  • Today we are putting the vlog on hold so we can answer the most common question I get asked... Which brokers work with new authority trucking companies? How to find loads in the first 90 days of operating authority? So on this video I show you how I find loads and the different load boards I use to find every load I haul.
    1. DAT Load Board
    2. Knight Swift Carrier Select Load Board
    3. TQL Carrier Dashboard
    4. Convoy App
    5. Uber Freight
    6. Amazon Relay
    7. CH Robinson
    8. Coyote Logistics
    9. CR England
    10. JB Hunt 360

I am from the same area as you (Gilroy) and have been impressed you went from leased on to a company hauling fuel to becoming independent. Amazing! I come from a long line of truck drivers and about to continue that tradition. anyways... When you are bidding, how do you figure out how much per mile you should charge? What is too much and not enough? I know I am wet behind the ears at 46 years old but I can drive and I do not want to sell myself short. You are more than welcome to DM me but even on here I will listen. I seen how you came up and are doing amazing, your successes are my goals, thank you for sharing.

    congrates on all your successful efforts, i have a question for you. Comming from a Tanker yanker outfit, what has it been like transitioning to 53" reefer. I started running into California and it freeks me out having the axle where it needs to be and still run 43,000lbs.

    • @jh-fe1qn
      @jh-fe1qn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just make sure not to load past the 48' mark. If you don't have a line drawn inside, you should mark it. 43k is not too bad. 45k might be a problem past the 48 ft mark. Also, be aware of the over hang when backing and turning. Running in Cali, watch out for the bridge law. You should keep your tandems slide all the way up or mostly all the way up depending on the track. DOT will definitely come out with a measuring tape.

    • @Velox18
      @Velox18  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jh-fe1qn
      @jh-fe1qn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@7477thomas the reefer weighs about 2k. Don't forget to compensate for that weight in front too. Theoretically, each hole counts for 200 lbs or so on the sliding rail. If you have a sliding 5th wheel, that's somewhat trickier.

    Hadn't watched the whole video yet, but will. Question, do you know if could get your own authority, but continue to drive for someone else while time builds up on your own authority for say a year. Then start working under your own number, and now it has been in service for a year, so its no longer new? I have no idea at all about this. Yo man when I first applied for my authority I was wondering the same thing but now I’m 100% sure your authority doesn’t become active until you get insurance added to it and to do that you gotta put up the insurance down payment and pay the monthly installments. So if you’re not running your truck your kind of throwing money away. But if you got it like that financially where you can work for someone and pay insurance for an authority you’re not using then hey…I guess you can. 🤷‍♂️

    • @Velox18
      @Velox18  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @davidmbute1507

      It's going to cost you more when it comes to Insurance. If you're leased on to a company and still setting up your own authority, you'll be paying for your lease and for your own authority when it comes to insurance. Personally I'd say just maybe do it for 30 days but you'll have brokers that will work with new authority.

      Make sure you set up your LLC or your business type in your state before you apply for your Own authority. A buddy of mine made a mistake and did not include his business LLC on his authority but did on his insurance. Long story short, anytime you have to make a change on fmcsa, it'll cost you about $80. My buddy over looked everything and messed up twice and he's paid the $300 once + ($80 twice for any corrections). He accidentally hit he'll be hauling household goods and that requires a different insurance policy to my understanding. Fmcsa put him out of service last week but he made the corrections a few days ago. But it takes 3-5 days for fmcsa to get the authority back to active.
      On your application on fmcsa, depending on what your hauling, on the cargo carried part, just put general freight so that it doesn't complicate everything. I pull a reefer and so I only have general freight and refrigerated food.
      My authority took exactly 25 days to go active. I got my insurance after 21 days, so that I didn't have to pay twice. Check out videos on utube for setting up your own authority. I saw alot of guys doing it. If you pay you insurance in the first week, so by the time it's active, your 2nd premium will be almost due.
      Good luck

    If you put your business in a pause stop your authority for 2 years and start back up does it start you over? will it show brokers that your authority had a break? or be new again? or will my authority be building this whole time

      Thanks for watching! I still have my hazmat endorsement but I don't have a hazmat license for my MC #. If I remember right, it only costs $150/ year but with that comes more insurance coverage so I haven't even bothered with it. Plus I don't know how much tanker work hits the spot market... I just searched DAT and found 1 load for aluminum tanker. It pays really good but it's the only one in the whole LA market.
