I think Judy is ultimately defeated, given the heavy association of electricity with lodge activity and the Richard & Linda Thompson song "Shoot Out the Lights" - but I don't think the ending is necessarily happy. It's very reminiscent of Albert's speech in Arbitrary Law, where Laura still remembers her trauma and it may not be more comforting to think that this evil is dead when human beings are capable of such acts. Coop is likely scattered across time a la Jeffries, given both of their confusions at the date/year, and probably "doesn't exist anymore". There are many allusions to Greek tragedies in the last two episodes, with with Coop/Laura paralleling Orpheus/Eurydice's journey out of the underworld, and then Odessa alluding to the Odyssey. As far as Judy sucking Laura into a sort of pocket dimension, this definitely occurs in episode 2 where Laura screams and gets sucked away and then the curtains pull back to reveal the white horse. Coop's entire mission from then on, in Leland's words, is to "Find Laura", because as an entity of the Fireman, she probably balances out the darker aspects of Twin Peaks, and that's partially why the town is so fucked up in the Return and rife with zombie-esque children, rampant gun violence, murder, domestic abuse, etc. The third telephone pole the Fireman shows to Andy is in Odessa; it's all part of the Fireman's plan. Unfortunately, the Fireman likely isn't interested or concerned with the fate of Coop, using him more as a pawn a la Mike.
Some other thoughts if you're still reading: the humming at the Great Northern is MIKE, which we also hear before Cooper comes out of his coma, this is also alluded to on the search for the zone website with "why certain frequencies are integral to interdimensional travel"; it is electricity that sends Cooper back to 1989 in the FWWM sign, and it is electricity that transports Diane/Cooper to the pocket dimension where Laura is located, and they conjure her up using a sex magic ritual (hence why "My PRAYER" is playing, which was previously played in ep. 8 with the beginning of Judy's dominion) and why there are so many allusions to Judy with the white horses, the streetlamp that looks like the evolution of the arm; the pocket dimension is widely implied to be our world, as going beyond 430 = the aspect ratio of television, and the script for the return in its entirety was 430 pages if I remember correctly, not to mention the Valero gas station, the RR doesn't have the to go sign, the lack of music, the documentary style cinematography that only exists here, and the owner being the owner of the house in real life. Parallels are drawn between electricity/synaptic vesicles with the evolution of the arm, and the latter is TOTALLY voiced by Lynch himself, and to anyone who thinks that Lynch wouldn't deal with that sort of "frivolity" I point you to the theatre scene in Inland Empire and Mark Frost for co-writing the script. The Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? allusions in Audrey's subplot also reinforce this, Audrey being an example of the dreamer who dreams and lives inside said dream (Mulholland Drive was supposed to be an Audrey subplot, Eddie Vedder is using his actual name while performing in the Roadhouse). Diane seeing herself at the motel is like Gordon seeing himself in his dream, and she begins recalling the experience of being raped by Mr. C, as Coop basically transforms into Richard, the Coop that has conquered his shadow self but become more a pure neutral than anything.
Okay. I'm done. If you read any of this, bless you and have a great day. Any questions I'd love to shoot back and forth, I love talking about this series with other people and it's great to see so many people have such adulation for this series.

Dude, NICE. When the Fireman (I still think of him as Giant) says "Richard & Linda" I immediately thought of Richard & Linda Thompson, but didn't think it actually had anything to do with them. Did "Shoot Out the Lights" actually play on the show? I don't remember / didn't recognize it. And yes, I thought of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? too; Sherilyn Fenn always had that Liz Taylor look, and the subplot scenes were deliciously brutal just like WAoVW? Were the allusions you spotted just a general vibe or were there some quotes or specific references to Albee's play?

A lot of this does seem to ring true, but I stil have a problem with the "pocket dimension" thing. It just seems too convenient an explanation that people are pulling out of the air. Most of the supernatural and dream like moments in the show may seem random at first, but do actually have some type of setup and payoff or allegorical nature to it. A pocket dimension? Suddenly ... In the last episode? Judy can be drawn to it because of the awkward sex magic? eh, do we know that? I think instead of alternate dimensions it's more likely some kind of dream type thing. I'm not sure who the dreamer is, probably Carrie in the last episode, but i do think all the time travel stuff and otherworldly moments are made possible because as Phillip says "we live inside a dream". Having said that, I also don't believe in the "it was all a dream" scenario.
I guess I don't know what the hell is going on. All I know is i have yet to hear a truly satisfying explanation. And I don't really expect to

That Cooper quote about Audrey made me really think about the nature of Dougie and Mr. C and I realized that Dougie is Coop with no wants but his need to help, and Mr. C is all the wants without that core need to better people around him. That's their key difference I think.

  • @Brandon_Powell

I believe the whole thing was orchestrated by the Giant/ Fireman. Remember the directions he was giving to Cooper at the beginning of the season in particular to "listen to the sound". I think the reason Cooper and Diane had sex in the motel room was to summon Judy similar to the young couple at the beginning of the Season inadvertently summoning Judy. I think the reason they did this was so Cooper could enter Judy's dream where she was hiding Laura Palmer. I don't think Cooper was actually waking up when he woke up as Richard. In Judy's dream he continued to follow the Giants / Fireman's directions leading him to Laura Palmer who had no idea who she was similar to Cooper's predicament throughout the majority of the season. after Cooper seemingly failed his mission and he and Laura walked back to the car just before Cooper asks what year is this you can faintly hear the noise the Giant / Fireman told Cooper to listen to at the beginning of the season. This seems to wake Cooper up causing him to ask the question. This caused Laura to realize that she was Laura as represented by hearing her mother call her name. I believe that when Laura screams this represents her acknowledging the fact that she's Laura Palmer. I think Laura waking up is what either killed Judy or at the very least separated her from Sarah Palmer as represented by the lights in the house going off. I believe that the lights going off in the rest of the world represented the dream ending.

@@Corn_Pone_Flicks It's very faint but it's there. I found out about it around a year after the episode first aired and when I went back to check myself my jaw hit the floor. I think the sound is the Giants/Fireman reminding Cooper of his mission.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Well, I've got the whole series captured into my computer for a Twin Peaks video I'm doing, so once I get home I'll just pull it up and crank the sound. What gives you the idea that it's Judy's dream at the end, specifically? I mean, obviously something does happen after Diane disappears since the hotel isn't even the same, but I don't agree with the popular idea that it's just Coop waking up and all of Twin Peaks is a dream, since Coop still thinks it all happened, and Laura remembers some of it at least. I definitely got the impression that the sex scene was an attempt to bring Judy into the mix, since they seem to go about it very much as if it's a task they have to perform instead of something they actually want to do. I think perhaps in the first episode, after the guard sees that Tracey is clearly coming on to Sam, that they clear out on purpose to see what might happen if they're unsupervised.

    • @drunkenma5ter841
      @drunkenma5ter841 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

i think the non-closure disappointment was the whole point. cooper wasn't supposed to save laura because in a sense she'd already been saved when she forced bob to kill her instead of fully possessing her. she was freed from the torment of her life being corrupted by the abuse of her father/bob. coop was supposed to save audrey, but he'd forgotten about her. mr. c was winning all along by cooper forgetting about her. remember, cooper started violating his oath when he hooked up with the book shop boys, instigated by audrey's imprisonment at one eyed jack's. this is when cooper starts losing his charming 'naivety' in the original series. he is starting to become corrupted by the case he is investigating, a common motif in detective stories. he and audrey part ways shortly after this and each pursue other interests, as mentioned in the video. both laura and audrey had daddy issues, and cooper had white knight syndrome, also mentioned in the video. audrey's daddy issues grew exponentially stronger when she was almost attacked by her own father at one eyed jack's, ben obviously not realizing who she really was. and this is the same one eyed jack's where laura worked, and laura's father/bob worked for ben horne in some capacity that i can't quite remember at the moment. the parallels between the two girls are right there. but laura is already dead and 'free', whereas audrey's downward spiral is about to begin. coop was supposed to save audrey. i get the feeling he may have misinterpreted what the fireman said to him at the start of the return. two birds with one stone. we assume he meant to kill two birds with one stone. but owls are obviously a recurring symbol throughout the series. owls are birds. it's my opinion that what the fireman REALLY meant was two birds SHARING the same stone... meaning laura's abuse at the hands of her father and audrey's obviously traumatic experience of having almost been forced into a sex act with her own father, and the stone being the ring that he was probably SUPPOSED to somehow give to audrey but instead gave to his doppelganger mr. c. special agent cooper became obsessed with 'saving' laura and undoing her murder and somehow possibly restoring her 'framed image' of the homecoming queen, which was obviously an impossibility right from the get-go, and failed to realize that he had the potential all along to save, in REAL time, another young lady who was about to go down a road of deep distress. 'what i want and what i need are two different things.' he was tricked, and in my opinion the trick started as soon as he violated his oath which opened the door for mr. c starting to take over by way of cooper's interaction with bob at the end of season 2. that's the way i interpret it anyway. so yeah, i'm pretty sure the non-closure disappointment was the whole point.

Same here. Twin Peaks, especially the return (as well as FWWM and season 1), had an effect on me like nothing else. All the layers of mystery, and required plot deciphering, make it such a rewarding viewing experience. I've seen season 3 no less than 4 times all the way through. And I'm still unraveling and realizing new possibilities. This is like a SERIOUS work of storytelling, with such a rich tapestry of characters, places, and things. Great analysis, especially catching the want vs need theme in Cooper's arc. However, Mr. C doesn't seem to be in control at the end. We have an entirely new version of Cooper -- "Richard." Richard seems to be a mixed version of Cooper and Mr. C. More integrated and realistic than before. No longer a white knight, but not a black one either.

I’ve been questioning the motives of Mr. C as well.
I actually think it’s possible that Mr.C was after Laura (in the 430 world) the entire time and there is evidence that the entire series may have taken place in the timeline where Laura was missing as well as the “unofficial” timeline, because not only is Laura taken from the Red Room in the first episode (which is the result of Cooper meddling in the past) but there are two different Palmer House’s shown throughout the series with completely different exteriors, door decorations, and bushes. (With a third exterior in the 430 world.)
But it makes sense that Mr. C would want Laura. It seems logical because that is who both Cooper AND Bob ALWAYS wanted.
I still doubt the existence of Judy as an actual physical Lodge entity though. It just doesn’t make sense to me that Mr. C was looking for the Palmer House in Twin Peaks with Bob inside him, or that he would be scouring the earth for an “extreme negative entity” that just HAPPENED to be inside Laura’s mother in a house CLEARLY connected to The Black Lodge. No, he was looking for something either in another dimension, or another time altogether.
I think it was Laura everyone was after. Laura is “the one.” And my
Theory is that “Judy” represents one’s extreme negative fixation or obsession. Remember, Phillip Jefferies told Cooper right before he went to save Laura that “this is where you’ll find Judy.” Laura was Coop’s Judy, Mr. C’s Judy, and Sarah’s Judy. Laura is the beautiful all American girl with the dark secret. The white horse in the darkness.

When I last watched the original seasons of Twin Peaks, I noticed that in the episode right after Cooper and Audrey “break up,” he’s dancing with her at the the Milford wedding. I find that little scene odd given the seriousness of that “break up” conversation between them. Also, the last time we see them interact with one another at all is when Audrey brings Cooper the photos that Bobby took at Dead Dog Farm. She actually kisses Cooper then, in part because of jealousy of Denise/Dennis. In all, there is unfinished business between Audrey and her “Very Special Agent.”

But I agree, Mr. C has practice and experience in real time reality. A quarter of a century's worth. We could see this with the fryer. Talk about a jerk move! Too over the top. Fortunately when not threatened, he seems cool.
I still think Cooper is still on the mission. With Laura alive, she can fulfill her destiny and nab Judy and with Bob out of the way, nothing can stop it. I think this happens when the house goes dark.

VERY interesting theories. I'll have to thank more about them before I comment. I will say originally I thought that "Billy" could be Audrey separating the good side of Cooper from DoppelCoop but on more viewings I became convinced he was actually a real person and she was reliving the agony of knowing Richard killed him(and not wanting to know it) which I wrote about ad nauseam (lol) in another comment.
The only thing I know for sure was that Audrey & Coop were always meant to get together in the script and Mark Frost even said their romance was spsd to be the original big storyline of S2 and they had to get rid of it at the last minute due to Lara Flynn Boyle (who was dating Kyle Maclachlan at the time) insisting he not hook up with Sheriln Fenn. And Kyle going along with it, even after DKL tried to force him & insist that he do it. Kyle stood his ground and refused & that was that & I'll always hate LFB as a result! 😡
As for your theory about Doppelcoop raping Audrey due to Coop's always desiring her, I said the EXACT same thing & I also totally agree about Doppelcoop being the dark side of Coop and a part of him. I was hoping we would see more of the internal struggle of Coop with his dark side but I guess that's very hard to portray onscreen without having a visual and that's why Doppelcoop SEEMS like a different entity. But in that respect I think your theories about them both being in Coop and that playing out at the end make a lot of sense. Anyway, Wonderful video as always!

Dang great video! Ty. I started to think the same thing like the 2nd and 3rd time i watched the 18th episode that cooper became a mix of his good original self and evil coop, i think good coop was in control as far as his mission went to bring laura back but i think evil coop was in the backround covering self preservation and an ego to do whatever he had to i guess. It also seem like he was a bit out of it like dougie, kinda going in and out between good bad and confused. Didnt seem like he cared or thought about fbi code anymore at all. Also i kinda thought laura or carrie was maybe possessed by judy and judy laura was watching what coop would do at the house i dunno laura just seemed real confused as well. So pretty much a lot of the characters on the show are greatly traumatized. Also i think wally brandos meeting with sheriff truman was key for sheriff truman to be prepared for the weirdness to come haha jk. Loved the 3rd season. Thanks for the great videos

Lynch fans are going to hate on me for saying this but I don't care. I just recently went back and watched all of "Twin Peaks" and when I watched seasons one and two, I saw cohesion, characters you cared about and a story arc but watching season three I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there is brilliant moments in the latest season but overall I was less enthused then when I originally watched it on "Showtime". I was excited and when watching it I thought it was great but recently watching it as whole made me change my mind. Lynch is a genius, his movies are testament to that fact but I just realized when he does TV and he doesn't have a Mark Frost or a network to reign in some of his genius insanity its a mess, season three was a mess compared to the original series and really I found myself not really giving a shit about what happened to the characters. I am not one these guys who wants a "happy ending" all the time but this to me looked as if he used a script he wrote for a different TV show (i.e. the planned "Mulholland Drive" TV show that became a movie) and just put the "Twin Peaks" characters in it.

@@GrayWoIf And I read like a year ago that Showtime was pleased and with Lynch envisioned The Return as a one-shot revival.
I think making a fourth season wouldn't take that long as the production got a bit slow after Showtime originally gave Lynch a nine episode deal but sometime later agreed to make it into 18 episode series. And taking into consideration that the fourth season would happen in a new timeline with some old characters in newer places/roles and new characters. Lynch and Showtime could easily ask people like Robert Engels to direct some episodes as I and many others would love to see some of that old school Peaks atmosphere back in some form.
Here's hoping we could get some kind of continuation as it seems Lynch stil has a lot of energy and interest in TV business.

@@GrayWoIf Lynch is getting old. The kind of energy and investment that goes into producing something like Twin Peaks is tough even for a young man. What Lynch wanted to say about the themes he covers in Twin Peaks and his other films has been done to the point of exhaustion if you ask me. Also he's taken the postmodern elements of Lynch-TV to to their extreme and it's almost as if the medium needs to go back to more classical forms of storytelling to regain a semblance of coherence. Lynch's addiction to obscurity is off-putting when you know that most of the time he's pulling your leg.

Lynch makes it in such a way that he hardly never gives you anything that is absolute. In fact, I bet you that both Lynch and Frost have some sort of "notebook" in their possession with all the details about where things stand and all possible ways they could develop. This means that for the current state of Twin Peaks there could be multiple futures. but more importantly, and because of the "time travel" nature of the show, it also means that multiple pasts could all link to the current state. What does it mean for us? that there is no absolute "answer" but instead we have all these possibilities that could all be truth. One day when Lynch and Frost decide to do another Twin Peaks, all they have to do is pick one of these options to go with :) it's genius!

Cooper has a dark side that compels him almost as much as his good side, and by separating from his dark side, he kills his own chances of victory. The real test being he should have embraced bad Coop, not destroy him.

As you pointed out in a previous video; were playing with back to the future rules.
Going to Twin Peaks is essential in his character arc as our pie loving, coffee drinking friendly FBI agent. If Laura never dies and for some reason is instead transported to Odessa, Coop never enters Twin Peaks. He never enters Twin Peaks, he never embraces the quirkier side of his personality. This is backed up by how Coop acts in Fire Walk With Me.
Mr. C isn't calling the shots. It's the whole, full Coop. A Coop that's been ground to the bone by decades of FBI work, a questionable reality, and bland coffee.

Completely agree regarding Cooper: for all his 'save Annie' bravura, he actually ends up ruining so many people's lives by letting the bad Coop out. We could actually blame Lara Flynn Boyle in part: she was dating Kyle MacLachlan and didn't want him and Audrey to get together in the show, so they brought in Annie, and the rest is history. Perhaps, as the narrator says, Audrey and Coop could have developed their romance, and Audrey might have led the life we all hoped she'd lead and not end up 'broken'. Nice going, Coop.

I love this video! So nostalgic & sweet. Scratched the itch of Audrey Horne.
Finally I understand the narrative. Mr. C., free from the noble restrictions Dale Cooper had about *needing* to keep to the FBI code, *wanted* Audrey so he raped her as soon as he could. Just checking off his list of the things he wanted. This ties Audrey from season 2 & the return together. Even though it's in such a sad way for Audrey, I actually thought Frost & Lynch just didn't pick up anything from season 2 regarding Audrey because of how thing went down at that time with Lara Flynn Boyle not liking them together or just resenting the whole 2nd season writing altogether. Audrey felt very disconnected to the earlier seasons. It felt like they didn't care enough about her to give her a proper storyline. But this makes for such a logical tie, there is actually a reference there *in the show* that is very satisfying, story-wise (the needing & wanting reference). I can sort-of accept Audrey's story as it's told in the Final Dossier now, as a logical momentum from that space of being raped in a coma. She's necessary for the plot, through Richard, checking off one of Mr. C's coordinates. I still hope she'll have a happy ending though - I see the white space as something good rather than bad. Throughout the series, red & black are the colors of the Black Lodge. It could be the White Lodge holding up a mirror so Audrey can see what's become of her, and how far she has strayed from who she really is because of her trauma, so she can heal. Or it can be that after the Roadhouse trip, Charlie brings her back to the mental institution where she looks in the mirror. Maybe those two explanations don't exclude each other...

Maybe it's the optimist in me (because I don't want the dark side to win out), but I still think there's no real answer to what, exactly, is up with Judy and whoever is seeking her--and I'm not conviced that any sort of union with Judy has happened. After all, if the union of Judy and Mr.C (or whatever) creates an all-powerful god of some sort, how would anyone still be able to remember the "unofficial version," which is, after all, a maybe confusing but still endemnifying history of Mr. C, Bob, and Judy's nefarious deeds--with a very capable warrior in Gordon Cole (and perhaps Lucy and Audrey) who has lived to fight another day? And what happens to Cooper's better side, if this union really has happened? I don't see it obliterated; it has to be in there somewhere. After all, the Fireman stepped in to do *something*, and I doubt it was a complete failure; it seemed like his goal has always been to keep the universe in some kind of balance, rather than completely destroy evil. Also, what was up with that shot of Mr.C frying in the chair in the Red Room? He doesn't look very happy to me there (but then, he never looks happy. Still, I don't think sitting in a flaming chair is what he wants).
And, finally, how and why did our beloved Audrey end up in a place that's all-white? It looks like a new (to us) Another Place--not the Red Room, not the Black Lodge, and not the Purple Castle. Does this mean that the Fireman and Senorita Dido's pad is not the White Lodge? (In Lynch's color-coded universe, what else is all-white? Who wears all white? Nobody that I can think of wears white or lives in an all-white world that I can think of).
I also wonder, if, a weird way, at the end of The Return things are somehow more balanced--even if they're not pretty. After all, Mr. C is not running around loose and unsupervised. If BOB (Judy's creation) is somehow destroyed, and Laura (the Fireman's creation) is still with us (in whatever form she may be in), what does that mean? Isn't that (sort of) good ?

I've been saying all of this, but only in comments to videos. Mr C delivered Laura Palmer to Judy, which freed Judy from her time loop prison.
She escaped through the electrical outlet once she located Laura Palmer in both space and time.
Laura saw Judy's true hideous form with backward arms as she was arriving, over the house.
Then the lights went out as she came through the outlet as Sarah.
Mr C uniting with Judy wasn't Sauron getting the ring, it was Judy getting her hands on Laura.
Mr C wants to take the place of Bob and Bob is now dead.
Mr C didn't want to go back to the Lodge.
Judy wanted to be with Bob, which that was her Mr C was talking to, not Jeffries.
Mr C was in control with Bob, but he was playing him as well.
Mr C was proving he was a better partner for Judy.
Mr C used Bob for his supernatural abilities.
Bob didn't have the mind to do the things Mr C could do.
Bob was just getting a huge thrill from being attached to someone so cold and calculating.
Mr C is in the driver seat with Agent Cooper.
Judy will possess Laura and draw out Mr C and Cooper will be thrown back into the Lodge.
Laura's energy is able to destroy Judy, but that same energy in Judy's hands makes her all the more powerful.
And with Mr C being her right hand man with the power of Bob....
which Mr C with Bob's powers is infinitely more powerful and frightening than Bob.
Agent Cooper has his work cut out for him.
I see Bob as an evil force, but if you ever seen the movie The Prophecy.... the angels and demons are powerful, but they need the mind and soul of a human for the clever and devious sorts of military tactics. Bob and the others don't have the mind for that. They can cause chaos and mischief, but they are like rabid dogs living and feeding on instant gratification with just a minuscule amount of strategy, which all probably came from the direction of Judy. The communication that put everyone to sleep. The frog moth creature which is either Bob or herself. Judy is playing a game against the Giant/Fireman. Like in the Prophecy the war between the White Lodge and Black Lodge are at a hopeless stalemate with both sides taking their fair share of wins and losses.
They need the human mind and soul to provide a win. It's a battle of Agent Cooper vs Mr C now, even more so than a battle of the Fireman Giant vs the Fire Judy.
Judy creates fires and the Fireman puts them out. But now she has Mr C and Laura Palmer and Cooper is going to be stuck in a Lodge.
I think Audrey is the missing key to this, not Laura. I think she is the dreamer.
Things have gotten really weird since she went into a coma.
But even before then she was a day dreamer.
"Keep dreaming" is what Donna told her.
She day dreamed about the FBI agent tasked with solving the crime of the high school sweetheart.
She day dreamed about what sort of dark secrets this seemingly perfect girl could have in her life.
She day dreamed about her demise and a white knight FBI agent coming to town to solve the murder.
She day dreamed about him wanting her but was too good a man to succumb to his basic instincts.
Then tragedy struck and she went into a coma.
Perhaps some of the things that happened actually happened and the rest Audrey had dreamt up.
Cooper changing the timeline forced her out of her coma/dream.
She is now either in a Grey Lodge or she is in some sort of mental care facility for the comatose.
She is either awake or she is in a waiting room fully aware that she is somewhere outside of reality.
There is a collective dream that all share as what everyone considers reality, but I think Audrey is the driver of the dream.
And I think she has a connection to Senorita Dido.
Like Senorita Dido put her own orb in there after she put Laura's, to be a friend and protector of Laura perhaps, but she had no memories so she never truly became friends with her. She loved Laura she says, for her taking care of her brother Johnny, but there was a jealousy there. She was the perfect girl that everyone loved. Perhaps Laura did die and Audrey sort of made up in her head what happened, what sort of dark secrets the perfect Laura Palmer could have been hiding, and how the murder happened and then she created a fantasy of the FBI agent that came into town to investigate the murder. But then she herself went into a coma and things got really weird. Now the dreamer is stuck inside the dream. She either woke up or she shifted realities and was able to perceive the shift.
Dale has to rescue Audrey, not Laura. Laura has to give her life to destroy Judy or permanently bind her in some way like she had been before the atomic test.
Audrey's fate was once again put up in the air by Lynch. Mr C raping Audrey also complicates things for Cooper. Mr C also killed their bastard son. It will be an awkward reunion when we finally get to see it.

When they ask, 'Who is the dreamer?', I feel like it might be Audrey. That is why she is absent from The Return except for a few weird scenes that her character seems lost/confused and the scene in front of the mirror where it she woke up. In the original run, the most important character is the one that is gone: Laura is the one. Maybe Audrey is the one in The Return but nobody seems to be searching for her. Hooked on Photography Poor Audrey is damaged. She’s had a rough life after the love of her life violated her so violently and that produced a demon child. (I happen to think had Coop / Audrey ended up together naturally their children would be gorgeous!)
I’m thinking either the Giant or Mr. C has her hidden in an all white room. Only Mr. C would be cruel enough to make sure she literally saw her youth and innocence lost.
I think these moments ran in tandem: Coop sticks the fork in the socket, Mr. C fries his son with electricity, and Audrey wakes up confused and terrified.
I really hope we get a season 4 or at least a film that will try to make things right. Audrey KNEW Cooper. She had to KNOW that wasn’t Cooper who raped her. This being the reason for treasuring Agent Cooper’s photo.

I rarely find flaws in Wow Lynch Wow!, but I have a problem with his conclusion here:
"Are Mr. C and Judy now united as one all powerful evil divine entity?"
Two things seem wrong with this theory:
    1) Judy doesn't appear interestested in uniting with Mr. C. At least by her own account, she wants to be reunited with Bob, again. And Bob was destroyed by Freddie. Without Bob inside of him, is Mr. C of any use to Judy, anymore?
    2) Mr. C's only stated goal was to avoid being sent to the lodge. But his final fate (in the unofficial version) was to wind up exactly there. He appears to be in some kind of limbo, not exploding into puff of black smoke like other people...but, nevertheless, he seems stuck there. In fact, he is even immobilized. This is absolutely not what he wanted.
I suppose Wow Lynch Wow! is arguing that Bob is alive in the official version and that Mr. C avoided Freddie in the this new universe. In such a case, it seems we have a whole new series on our hands. Any season 4 might be about Gordon trying to restore the original universe somehow. I'm not sure how that can happen in 2019, given that they can't go back in time to re-murder Laura...or could they?

Good stuff. I agree with most of what you're saying here, and I do think you correctly identified the weaker aspects of this theory - which I myself was dimly aware of when I did this, and because of that, I may revisit this idea again fairly soon. The idea that the ending represented victory for Mr C, because there are some points I didn't properly address. Namely (as you mentioned) that in the new official version, the possibilities that Bob exists and that Mr C was never sent back (although on the latter point, I'm inclined to believe that Cooper has become "whole" again when he exits the Lodge). Thanks for sharing.

Very unique interpretation! I must say, the evidence is certainly there. Now I am craving some black coffee...

As for Richard/Cooper not liking the coffee at Judy's... maybe it just wasn't very good coffee? :)
However there's something about that world that seems a little more harsh, more real. Richard/Cooper is more harsh/complex, the coffee isn't as good, the look and feel of Odesssa is rough and desaturated, the owner of the Palmer house is the real owner of the house (though goes by a different name). It feels like some kind of bleed through cross over universe, kind of like the first step to waking up.
My favourite theory about all this is that the Carrie Page/Richard/Linda timeline is a pocket universe created to capture and ultimately destroy Judy and that Laura was the weapon. Her scream and blackout at the end was proof this plan succeeded. If Judy is associated with electricity, then Laura's scream overloaded Judy to the point of destruction.

Although it can be fun to come up with theories about what the ending "means", I don't think there's any real way to apply logic to an ending which is really only designed to work emotionally and thematically, nor do I think that a theoretical Season 4 would be any more interested in providing "answers" than Season 3 was. So, while I'm hoping for a new season of Twin Peaks as much as the next person, it really seems like unreasonable optimism that another season would ever be interested in providing a logical explanation to any of this. In my opinion, any logical explanation would rob The Return of its magic.
That said, I do prefer this theory to the "Cooper uses Laura / Carrie to defeat Judy" idea. I may not understand everything that's happening in that final episode, but I am certain of one thing: this is not a happy ending. No way, no how.

👍 Great catch on the coffee thing. I had just passed off the lack of enthusiasm for the coffee at Judy's as Coop being preoccupied by the unknown situation, but I really like your take.
Do you think all the tulpas in the show were moral yin/yang separations?

Also, did the return of Mr C to the Lodge via the ring complete the rejoining of the two halves? And if the ring is required, what happened to "evil"(?) Diane who returned to the Lodge after being shot?
