"I normally put a sheet down but not today as I don't have one"... the way your using that roller, you'd need to mask off the whole room!! Ceiling an' all!!
The smaller sponge roller would be better than a fleece roller even if there made for gloss or any oil based paints as you still get little bits of the fleece come off so sponge is better just lay it off the same way
Just say someone used high gloss on a door that already had a 10 year old gloss paint on it and the old paint started bleeding through, how do you fix this problem? Do you have to sand the interior flat surfaced door until all gloss is off and then use primer first before the fresh coat of high gloss?
You should have used a 9x3/8 shed resistant roller. Strained the paint. And laid it off from bottom to top in one direction. Also should have used a drop cloth even if it doesnt matter. Paint everywhere and sugarfooting it around is not acceptable.
Good old candleman gonna try that the wkends, can you recommend a good oil based gloss to get a good finish.. And what's the best brush. Hamiltons perfection or purdy Cheers pal
I know everyone is saying he’s rolling too fast etc, but the house looks like a council one, carpet will be going down over splatters, and the paint is oil-based so will settle down to be much smoother before it dries.
@67psych3 Ah, the desperate attempt to promote one’s silly British “class”. the statement about it being a council house is not that the council built it. I think council houses are rock solid. The statement is conditional: since it looks like it’s a government-subsidised house, that means that painter isn’t working for a private client who lives in the home, but the local council who pay him to blast out work, so the quality does not need to be the same as a private, residential client-who may or may not live in a council-built home. If it is for a private client, it still stands that carpet will be going down so spray doesn’t matter.

what did i just watch here? how can this be titled "how to gloss a door very fast"? if you use a 270mm roller, roll the entire door and then tip off from bottom to top with a nice wide brush u can do it in less then half the time. a door like this shouldnt take more then 10 minutes both sides including cutting in the edges
Even better after cutting in with a brush get a mini gloss foam roller and go over the whole door with that the brush marks will not be visible then and it'll leave a brush mark free smooth surface. Thinning the paint will only increase the chance of drips so don't do that unless a miscoat is being applied to bare plaster

If that is gloss you're applying why are you using a mini emulsion roller, a foam gloss roller should be used, and why on earth did you brush the door after you had already rolled it
I agree foam roller. The brush was used to lay off the paint and prevent orange peel. Lay it on lay it off. That should also be done after a foam roller though.
A lot of people must watch this, brim full of confidence, then advertise themselves as "painters" ! I can do better than this - and I'm an electrician !

Nah oil paint breaks down the sponge and leaves bits in the paint. Can’t beat a good quality fleece roller.
But hey each to their own.
