I got dreadlocks one week ago and I am more respected by people, the only dislikes I've gotten is from old white people strangers but so far I have gotten a extremely good response 😌
I started my locs at 60 years old It will be 2 years May 2024. Patience is the key. I spray mineral water and peppermint oil mixed and wash and retwist every 4-5 weeks. That's it.
I am 65 and I am a retiring truck driver. I just started my lock journey three days ago. I am looking forward to my lock journey. I will be paying close attention to learn all That I can over the years.. Thank you for all the help you can provide ..
You really inspired me to dig deep and really understand the process...but I also know why I want to loc, it's because I am on this journey to self improvement......and locing my hair will force me out of the comfort zone, and will force me to accept that things aren't always perfect. Thank you so much.
Its true peoples perception changes, when i told mum about having my hair locked about a years ago,,and she was like oh u r not going to get married🙄.I finally decided to get my hair locked in march and today am 3 months in.Am loving the journey because it is teaching me to know my hair and a lot of patience💃💃
I’m going on my second month and I’m getting a retwist August 10th it took me a while to adjust to them and I was scared of what my folks would say but overall I realized it’s my head and I want to be different from everyone my locs helped me be more comfortable with myself and accept me as a person thank you for making these videos they helped me so much especially mentally stay blessed brotha
I 100% agree with everything you said in this video, especially with what you're saying about this journey humbling you and perceptions. I'm a woman who was going to the shop every 2 weeks to get my hair done, whether it was box braids or feeder braids. I transitioned for 11 months and then cut my relaxed hair off and went straight into my loc journey. Now I'm 3 weeks in, and my hair is short, and I was almost considering loc extensions because I was initially uncomfortable with my new look. And considering perceptions, I've had negative comments about my starter locs from family, and surprisingly, positive comments from strangers! I started this journey for convenience and to encourage myself to be more patient.
It’ll be peaks and valleys from here on out! As long as you know you’ve got a community of people going through exactly what you are. We all may be at different phases but we all have found ways to keep pushing through those hard times! I’m always here ready to respond anytime! Stay strong and the rewards will all be worth it! I still have to tell myself the same thing! ✊🏾 We In it together! 🙏🏾
On your comment about family perceptions, my mother and mother in-law all but rolled there eyes at my locs, but I receive compliments from strangers from gas stations to restaurants.
Hey! I’m a woman who is three weeks in and omg I have good days and days I’m like I’m about to wash them out. I see early in that it’s gonna be rough start. I just try to push on .
Wednesday will be 2 weeks since I’ve installed my starter locs. It is definitely a humbling experience when you are used to looking a certain way. All in all I am extremely excited about my loc journey. I’m in the process of going back to school and moving to another state this week. So I see my locs as a representation of a new beginning.
J. It’s always cool when you can tie your journey with a new chapter it definitely helps stay committed. So excited for your new journey! If you ever have questions or need encouragement I’m always around!! 🙏🏾✊🏾
TP locks I enjoyed your video. I do have a question about washing my hair I’m 3 wks into my journey when and how should I wash my hair? My two strand twists are thin and my hair is fine. What should I do?
New sub here! I was looking for info for my 14yr old who’s wanting locks because he’s seen my lock progression and loves it! Almost 2yrs in with micro locks and everything you’ve said is spot on! Thank you! And your voice is so soothing!
I asked a woman at my job about her locks because I was very intrigued and simply asked the reason and she told me “I wanted to change the narrative on those that wear them” and I’ve been obsessed with the lifestyle ever since. Due to me impatient in my growth journey and wanting to do something different I ended up cutting my sides. 🤦🏽♂️ I’ve decided to cut my hair and start over because I want a full head of locks. Thanks for this video, I learned a lot watching this and I’m trying to prepare myself mentally for the rough times.
I love your video...your thoroughness, your transparency. Most important you were respectful and not using any profanity to express yourself... thank U. Your locs look great..
I’m watching this video a year later. You had 500 subscribers and as of today (5/4/2021) you have 33.4K subscribers! Wow! You definitely surpassed your goal. I’d say much deserved. Thanks for the great video and all the advice.
I will start my loc journey in January. My biggest challenge will be the ugly stage...your words spoke truth and confirmation to me. I already know it's gonna be a struggle but, excited to begin.
After watching 3-4 of your video, I just subbed. I want to lock my hair, but been thinking about it and watching a lot of videos online but didn't want to follow anyone (because I didn't want people to find out, silly yh) and as much as all video I watch have been helpful, I find yours quite sincere, genuine and relaxing. Love this all the way from Nigeria 🇳🇬
Hi, I'm so glad I came across your page. I'm considering starting locs, and I am nervous yet very excited. I have googled every question to mind, and I have watched so many videos that it makes no sense. But your page has opened my eyes. You're not only giving your testimonies, but you're going beyond to persons such as I who doesn't know much about locs, you're not afraid to be yourself, you're funny, and you're trying to expand. You're not settling, and I respect that. So I appreciate you for creating this channel!
I’m on my second loc journey. My first set was a thick/full set that fell to my jawline after growing for a year and 5 months. My second set is reaching my cheeks only after 7 months. I’ve learned a lot about my hair and acceptance was a big part of my journey. It still is.
September 14th will make it 3 years I have my locks! Your right about that ugly phase I complained about but yes I stayed committed because I wanted locks forever!
Thats very true im a dark-skinned woman with tattoos and have been locked for 6 months im still in the ugly stage and people look at me differently now than with the afro or flatironned hair
Heya TP, I've been all over youtube and google off and on for the last year, thinking about getting locs. Your video is super encouraging and inspiring, I've been interested in this for several years now. I think you just helped me make up my mind about it lmao. I am actually going through a rough patch in life and I think this process might help me a lot. Anyhow, love your face. Thank you for existing. 💙
Your sooo real....u jus make me want to listen and listen to u....and yees, uve helped me alooot...like u, i was lookin for information coz im almost getting my locks.....this channell of yourz just helps me know everything i need to know and trust mee.....despite all u jus said, im jus a locs lover, no matter waaat!!!, its just wat i want so im just gonna go for it.........thankz alot.
Thank U for touching on number 2 how folks will percieve you. My son wants locs however we live in a thriving black Metropolis but i will speak to him about perception!!!
My job wont let me have them so my plan is to either braid/twist them at a certain point or just say they're twists, so far no one has said anything but i plan om getting another job before they notice
I wish I had seen this earlier.. I just started my locs today 02/05/2021.. this has been a 10+ year long decision and I’m glad I’ve finally done it. But I’ve been naturally and my hair has been in it’s raw for quite sometime now. I’m just generally happy about this next stage in my life 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Yes. I tried starting mine at 15 and people were calling me racist, I’m appropriating culture and just looked at me wrong. But I still tried but the lady didn’t do it right. So I just got braids. 10 years later at 25 starting my locs Monday
Yo, I decided today I wanna start my journey, and honestly at first it was because I really like juice wrld's look (R.I.P Jarrad) but then.. I looked into the spiritual side of this hair style and I'm digging it big time. This is probably exactly what I need in my life. Something I can work at, keep up, humble me, help me grow, the ups, the downs, all of that. I wanna start my journey soon. Just gonna binge watch some more of ur vids lol. New sub here, thanks for ur videos man
Hell yea peoples perception will change! Girls... jobs... people who knew u before. Shit gets annoying sometimes. Wen my hair gets all nasty n dirty dry n out of place the stares n stuff be getting to me.i just got my locs 2 weeks ago n the itching is out of there. I miss washing my hair ALOT! I'm just waiting till this first month is over. No lie I'm doing it for the look but I'm also doing it just to challenge myself. Always kept a taperfade or a sponge fro. So I'm just tryna see wat the dread hype is about.
I hear you bro! Nothing wrong with doing it for the look! I think that’s how most of us start out! Wasn’t til that year mark where I realized waiting for that “look” was gonna take awhile! When that’s the only thing keeping you going it’s real easy to say F it and get that fresh cut! I used to be the smooth brother in the room! Now that’s kinda changed a lil! (Perception wise) Lol 2 weeks is an exciting time! Still honeymoon phase! You’ll see a lot of changes in these first couple months. There will be some rough days! Haha Cop some headbands, visors and caps to help get you through bro! You got this!
When I got locs people looked at me different I will say that but people will talk trash at school and stuff but don’t be scared to wear your hair out !
I fell in love with the the Killmonger locks. It was just beautiful. And I wash my hair once a week. I have to say I truly embrace the Roughness, cause fundamentally I am a man, it is a rough look that has a very beutiful at the same time.
The first thing I did when I got my starter locs only a few days ago was come to TH-cam for advise and I look forward to the journey this morning I started with a bottle of water mixed with some essential oils which I’m thinking to do 3 times a week
I just started over my loc journey on very short hair ....first set I started with extensions.i cut them all off ...I want to do it from scratch all the way...teaching myself to love me more...all of me❤...so I'm down for this 💯 excited much
I found this video tonight and it was a relief. The journey has just started and my hair texture is super different and soft, so to find this motivation to keep going has helped tonight. Salute, and yes I sat through the entire video hahaha
OMG thank you sooo mcuh!!! This information was very helpful and gave me a lot of insight. Its making me even more excited to start my Beautiful locks!!
Bruh I’m too proud of this journey I started my coil bois March 9 I plan to take this trip as long as I got strength, but aye I do get taper bouta be my second one and second wash. I’ve been doin great everything u said do and don’t bruh ✊🏾 patience I ain’t even trippin on the ugly phase
Bro this is my second time around having locs and in a different style than before. I'm in my 4th month of second time and I love the way they look now. I need to know how to wash it correctly and you showed me thanks for that.
I'm going on like month 5 and still can't get them to lay tf down lol but I'm doing it for my son, started them shortly after he turned 3 and started developing his sense of self and I'm going to grow them (ideally) for the rest of my life, so that he can have a visual representation of just how long he's been around kind of like having tree rings to count.
Welcome to the loc fam!!!! It’s so exciting to start a new journey! Take a bunch of pics!!! That’s one of my biggest regrets..2 years later I feel like I’ve only got 5 pictures of my early locks lol And thanks for the compliment. I’m just being plain old me! 😅
I started my journey a month ago. I have soooo much 4C hair and it has been natural with even no heat for the last decade. I am doing this out of necessity. I have debilitating arthritis and it's getting so hard to detangle. I'm used to the rough look. When I went natural, I had a perm. Babyyy that was ROUGH! So, I think that's why I'm ok with these fuzzy roots now lol
Having a different view of people is 100% true. My brother has locks and when he got them I was disgusted I didn't want him to be near me. But now I want them lol they look so cool
🤣🤣I know what you mean. I am retired from the military and work for the federal government. I said locs where bad. At 58, I have started my loc journey. 🤣🤣
First time on your channel... sir you are very intelligent. You gave great advice, and this is the first time I've ever heard someone refer to tunnel vision in a positive aspect (edit: 17:35), so thank you so much for posting. Very inspiring 👏.
I just started my locks a couple months ago and I'm not cutting my hair until there's systematic change in the way blacks are treated in America. So they may eventually be passed my shoulders unfortunately by the time that happens 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ Good video TP. #GEORGEFLOYD ✊🏾🖤
The lineup isn’t damaging. What’s damaging is cutting hairs that you’re using for your locs! It’s difficult to identify hair that belongs to a loc versus loose hairs that are safe to cut! That’s why I recommend twisting first before lining up!
It’s going pretty good man just going through the motions with them but for the most part good but I have ? If I wear a durag a lot would it’s make them grow weird
If you are black, you just wash it like regular because our hair naturally locks. If you are not you might have to google it because white people add extra stuff to their dreads and moisture can make it mold or smell.
I have a question...when u cut your locs do you have to cut them ALL off and have a buz cut or could you cut half or some off and keep a good amount of your hair?
I appreciate that family! I just try to give the information I think people want. I’m always pleased when people tell me it was effective. Truly humbled and grateful! ✊🏾
thanks for this man! really appreciate it!! only i allready started locs before thinking about taking care of dreads hahahha. i love the proces with my ugly baby locksxD. im finaly feeling myself when i watch in the mirror. just got them for 2 weeks now. the first months gonna be really hardxD But i love it and i hope i can hold this feeling for at least 10 years hahaha
I had one person with no damn locks tell me,don't wash my hair for 2 months, and they never had locs before. then got mad when I didn't listen to them, damn. They bald headed how the hell are they gonna help me never having locs ever. Wow.
My cousin beat his alopecia by using straight lavender everything in his locs,he was using lavender spray water and jamaican lavender castor oil and wash his hair with some loc product but he puts lavender oil in his product
So, i just started my loc journey and did the comb coils...only a week in, but when i got it finished, the stylist told me not to wash or do anything for 3 weeks, and go back at that time. Is that a normal time frame to not wash, because i typically wash my hair every week
It’s normal for sure but it’s not absolutely necessary. They typically ask you to do that so you minimize the work they have to put in and to preserve the twisted look as long as possible.
My coils on one side came out when my other side are laying down after two month. When I sleep with the Satin durag my hair smashes together. So imma just wear an scarf to work so I don't play with my hair and have it lock back on its own. Yes I'm freeform my hair with C-3 type hair just with water curls my hairs from root to top.
Its true, once u start locs people will have a different view of you, for an example it only made me more popular in school
You the man in the city huh?! 🔥🔥 in college I was that guy too with em lol
True story
TGK_ FateZ damn when I got mines I was treated a lil worse before I got rm
Me too !!
I got dreadlocks one week ago and I am more respected by people, the only dislikes I've gotten is from old white people strangers but so far I have gotten a extremely good response 😌

You really inspired me to dig deep and really understand the process...but I also know why I want to loc, it's because I am on this journey to self improvement......and locing my hair will force me out of the comfort zone, and will force me to accept that things aren't always perfect.
Omg! When you said comb coils may come down my heart sank
I retired from the military and work for the federal government. At 58, I am starting my loc journey.🤗
September 24th 2020 at 12 p.m. I will be starting my loc journey. I have grown my hair out for about a year and a half im ready.
I’m Cape Verdean from france & portugal n i really like ur video, the message, the way u entertain people i really like ur vibe 🫡❤️‼️🫶🏾
Thank you for the information and encouragement. 2 Weeks loc'd today ♥♥
I just started my locs....thanks for this video very informative in a loving way...you give hope and paz!
I’ve been going back and forth about getting locs. Mainly because of people’s perception changing.
You seem like such a high quality person. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and I love your insight! I’m starting my locs tomorrow :) yeeee~~~
Locs give you super powers that's why I got em lol
Bruh it’s legit vibranium out here!!!
Just started today on July 4th...I’m
Nervous and excited 😬
How they go?
Year l8r now. How it going?
Straight facts 💯 good vid bro on my 2 month and change going month to month wash and retwist so far so good starter locs are staying intact lol
Bruh...I'm about to start mine in a few weeks. Your vids got me motivated to commit to the process...and not dye my hair early 🤣😂
Bro no homo but you look really good in the opening seconds hahah it’s the lighting for me!! Skin is good, hair is prospering! You lookin healthy!
I loved your video. It was very informative and truthful. I went through every thing that you mentioned. Thank you so much.
First time on your channel... sir you are very intelligent. You gave great advice, and this is the first time I've ever heard someone refer to tunnel vision in a positive aspect (edit: 17:35), so thank you so much for posting. Very inspiring 👏.
I’ve wanted them since I seen my foster mom had them
Just started my loc journey. Your videos are very helpful
#GEORGEFLOYD ✊🏾🖤
he didn’t like your dumbass comment the fuck does this have to do with the video
@@toodamnrico just stfu bro nobody wants to hear ur negative opinion so stfu

@@toodamnrico yeah man stfu
Could explain about getting line ups? I have a full head of starter locs to my hair line. Is it damgeing to them if I get a line up to close to them?
The lineup isn’t damaging. What’s damaging is cutting hairs that you’re using for your locs! It’s difficult to identify hair that belongs to a loc versus loose hairs that are safe to cut! That’s why I recommend twisting first before lining up!
Sorry about all the exclamation points lol 😂
Thanks so much I just started my starter locs am in day 2 and this video really encouraged me alot thanks so much
I love ur channel u giving me good tips I’m only a week and half in but I can’t wait
A week in?!! Welcome to the loc fam! That’s such an exciting time!! How’s everything going so far?
It’s going pretty good man just going through the motions with them but for the most part good but I have ? If I wear a durag a lot would it’s make them grow weird
You’re one of my inspirations brother.
Thanks for the video bro, found some real good bits of info. And wow 25.5k followers now 👌
What if your in a tropical country and ur a sporty type of person? im just kinda curious about the washing process
If you are black, you just wash it like regular because our hair naturally locks. If you are not you might have to google it because white people add extra stuff to their dreads and moisture can make it mold or smell.
100% true I am starting my journey today will update you on how it's going
Congrats on the new beginning!!! Welcome to the loc family 🙏🏾🔥🔥
I'm one of you new patrons. Yay! So excited for you 😀
Organic Locs I’m sooo grateful. Sent you a message! Felt like I had an angel on my side! Thanks you so much!!!
How often do you wash your hair
These days damn near every shower! 😂 I wouldn’t advise that though! This quarantine got me jacked up! 😂
After 10 months after cutting my 7 years locs, I am going to start again as soon as I can 🥰🥰
I have a question...when u cut your locs do you have to cut them ALL off and have a buz cut or could you cut half or some off and keep a good amount of your hair?
You have such deep points
Thanks for this☺
I appreciate that family!
Thanks for the help man!!!!
What products do you recommend to get your scalp healthy and ready for locks.
Locs don’t have an ugly stage! We need to find another term!
I agree. You create it and do a video about it on your channel. When you do I’ll subscribe and reference this new term in a video!😁
Well another term is the teenager or rebellious stage
Instead of washing can u use a spray bottle to keep your hair clean?
Thank you for your video. So helpful.
Respect brother 💪🏼
Appreciate ya! 🔥✊🏾
Appreciate ya! 🔥✊🏾
Great video
Keyaira Hawkins thanks! It was a long one!
looool "grow from here to sierra leon"
😂😂
My coils on one side came out when my other side are laying down after two month. When I sleep with the Satin durag my hair smashes together. So imma just wear an scarf to work so I don't play with my hair and have it lock back on its own. Yes I'm freeform my hair with C-3 type hair just with water curls my hairs from root to top.
Great content.... So is it wish to just grow out your hair for about 6-9month fro style before the first twist.
The perceptions 😭 nice video bro
