Ugh, he looks so happy in this video. Like his silly, sarcastic, innuendo toting, amazing facial expressions self. It's good to go bad and watch these after watching his heartbreaking live performances. Poor kid.
What happened in the live performances?
Dwired Oh there are a couple of songs he didn't perform live until the Canadian leg of their tour a couple months ago because he wasn't emotionally ready to sing them yet. His first performances of them are really hard to watch. They are really emotional. I pretty much came directly from watching those to watching this, so that's the reason for the comment. The other songs they perform live still have the same MT energy, though.
***** I did see a clip of that concert. It was so heartbreaking. It was raw and sad and I wept a little. Josh is a mouthy, funny guy but he's also ridiculously sensitive and deep. 'Forget Me Not' made me bawl before I even knew it was about his mom, because I have had a couple of people in my family suffer from dementia and his emotions and words rang far too deeply. When I found out it was written for his mom...I just...I just feel for him. I don't think he'd even sing that one live. Ever. Not unless it was a private special request...and even then, he wouldn't be able to get through it. There's something so refreshing about how much of his life goes into the music...right down to the emotions in the orchestral pieces (which are just amazing and far too short). I know other artists in pop music put their own lives into their music, but he does it so specifically that you know exactly what the situation is. It's refreshing to hear true songwriting artistry in pop music.

This refers to Josh writing Call me maybe for Carly Rae Jepson and basically the whole song tells us that no matter how low we are, we can always rise and have a second chance.

Not that anybody cares, but I'm a 64 year old welder, sitting here in Halifax, Nova Scotia at around 11 pm on a Friday night, in this big house all by myself with the computer hooked up to my PA system running so many God Dam watts that you just won't believe me and THIS song. THIS SONG has such a bright, clear sound to it, that it makes my system sound even better. I don't crank up the recorded version here of course TH-cam KILLS quality in favor of space, and THAT is why you should purchase the high quality CD and go old school ... FLAC, WAV, lossless, whatever you young people call it nowdays but I call it UNCOMPRESSED sound files .. the best way to listen to music....These guys are GREAT ... I find myself always coming here on a weekend and just laughing at this video over and over.

As a Canadian, I've heard their music for years, and it took me till I binged every one of their albums while working as an overnight shelve stocker last year that I actually listened to the lyrics, and I can't believe I was 19 before I knew Josh wrote Call Me Maybe.

I've been a fan of Marianas Trench for a long time, like I was obsessed. I cried the whole fudging concert, the music was amazing and the songs were perfectly sung and preformed and I literally died inside :') I went to one of their concerts and I got to meet Mike Ayley, which who was my favorite. I asked him for a hug and he said no (I don't know why :/) . I was so embarrassed and upset, it was horrible. It killed my night. At least Josh hugged me but seriously. Who rejects a hug from their own dedicated fan? I literally started crying :( I still love and enjoy every single song they write and I will still be a fan. But fuck, that was embarrassing. I would never do that too one of my fans, ever. (I don't have any but still.) Anyways, love the song! x (:

Interesting. My brother has met them a number of times through a friend who used to babysit one of Mike's (I think) younger siblings and said the complete opposite. It can be hard to know where to draw the line with fans though. Amanda Palmer has talked a lot about how much she trusts her fans to be kind, but she's always hearing horror stories about groping or stalking or other instances of inappropriateness. Could just be some of the band members have had some bad experiences or were having a bad night.

Really?? I'm so sorry that happened to you! I, personally, never had a bad experience with them at all! I've them about... Four times? Each time they were sweethearts. The first time was that concert in NYC and Josh had had vertigo. They performed amazingly (even when Josh finished his last song and almost collapsed. Matt and Ian had to carry him out.) Even though Josh couldn't come greet the fans, I remember being in tears when I met Mike and laughed and held me and told me to stop crying, that he was right there and wasn't going anywhere. I literally have a picture with me and Mike cuddling, he was the sweetest! Ian was as weird as ever but too adorable, and kept thanking us for coming and apologizing for Josh's absence. Matt, although it was brief, apologized for Josh, gave my sister a kiss on the cheek and me a hug and then we were shooed out of the club xD The next time we met up, they remembered us! Kind of hard to, considering my sister had bright pink hair at the time. And Mike, Ian and Josh were thrilled with the gifts I'd given them. (pretty sure Ian posted about it on twitter too). At the time, I'd just started the butterfly project, and had each of them draw a butterfly on me. Ian's response was one I will never, EVER forget. He'd grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me and said "Please don't do this. You are important to someone, to us. We love you" and then he hugged me and made me pinky promise not to ever do it again, to keep his butterfly alive. (In the end, they were one of the reasons I've been clean for four years now.) I am honestly shocked that they'd do something like that. Josh, while still sassy, was WAY too sweet, accepted and read all the letters given to him every time I met him. Plus, each time I met them, they'd hang out and make sure EACH FAN HAD BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. THEY WERE THERE FOR HOURS, SIGNING STUFF AND CHATTING AND SHARING LAUGHS WITH THE FANS. I didn't even feel like a fan. I felt like we were just old friends catching up after a long break. They were so easy to talk to, and kind. Maybe Mike was just in a rush or something?? Marianas Trench is a pop rock band from Vancouver, BC, formed in 2001. The band consists of members Josh Ramsay (lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, pianist, occasional drummer and song writer) Matt Webb (lead guitarist and backing vocals), Mike Ayley (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Ian Casselman (drums, percussion, and backing vocals). The band has released three full-length studio albums, the most recent titled Ever After, released on November 21, 2011, along with 2009's Masterpiece Theatre and 2006's Fix Me. Their third album Ever After was nominated for a Juno.
It was hard to forgive Canada for Justin Bieber, but then I discovered Mariana's Trench and I was like...."Well played, Canada."
