Thanks - really useful to know, especially after having had an F2 flame out error code. Do you know where the contaminant the causes the blockage comes from? Could it have got in via the flue?
Yeah, through the flue most of the time. Could be from sucking in dusty air if there's construction going on for example, and sometimes bees go in there. It can also get filled with dirty heating system water from a hole in the bottom of the heat exchanger.
@@HouseWarm Just cleaned out the trap following your video, and there was a load of black sooty material in the inlet side. The outlet wasn't blocked but I reckon that black stuff could build up in the outlet side eventually. The system has recently be re-filled clean with new inhibitor so I suspect dust is coming in via the flue. Thanks for explaining.
Yeah it will be. It's probably just the air around your house which could be off many different factors. On regular boiler services of mine sometimes the traps are filled with dirt every year and sometimes other traps are crystal clear.
I had an issue with the bottle overflowing. It looks clear and was completely cleaned out by an enginermer about 6 weeks ago. The right side of the bottle and the left side is constantly three equates full while the heating is on. Is that normal? I had a water leak from the boiler yesterday so switched it all off. Today I spoke to another engineer who told me to take off the black pipe and check for a blockage and also to take off the black plastic panel just above it on the flute bit coming down. There was no blockage from what I could see. Any idea what was causing it to overflow out of the top? In the video when you're cleaning the bottle the water flows out of the bottom whole and completely clears. So why is my bottle constantly three quarters full? Any advice anyone?
This saved a callout fee. Thankyou very much. Mine was full of white and grey grit. Where would this have come from as obviously I need to maintain whatever flows in.
You're welcome. Not much you can do about it as it's probably cming from inside the heat exchanger. Just give it a clean out once a year and you should be good.
@@HouseWarm I have a feeling it's an issue with the fan, possibly because I let the build up get too much. It wants to start now, but makes a loud fan noise. Then throws an F3.
Having the same F2 errors What if there's water still in the pipe above it, what does that typically mean? Also, could this be caused by a gas meter change, as it only started happening about a week after that was changed?
Water in the pipe above it sounds like the water isn't running out the bottom like it should be. Could have a blocked condensate pipe. L2 can be a gas supply problem.
@@HouseWarm condensate pipe below appears to be empty when the condensate trap is emptied, so that's bizarre, as I'd imagine it would be filled to the brim with water
You could try pulling the condensate pipe out the bottom of the boiler and putting a tub underneath to catch any water. If the boiler works then you'll know the pipe blocked, if it still doesn't work then you've ruled that out.
@@HouseWarm that's a good idea, thanks If that still doesn't work, then I've no idea apart from the trap itself, which looks perfectly fine, if a bit yellowish

If you remove the trap and fill it with water under the tap, it should empty the water out on one side to prove it's working ok.
