  • In this video I show you an easy way to locate the pivot hole for a Russian/Bulgarian pattern side folding stock latch on a standard AK-74 front trunnion.

Ps if you just have to bind drill this. Get the measurements online drill the smaller inner hole just a blonde hair past that hooks pin depth and then follow up that hole with the larger diameter drill. Then make a square hole on the side. Recommend taping off a square drilling out middle and filing to square. After you are finished proudly admire your work while doubting your sanity.

Thanks man for the video...I'm in the process of doing the same thing I bought a Bulgarian ak 74 kit and bought a Bulgarian plum side folder kit and I've been stressing for the past 3 days now.on how to putt that hole in the front trunnion..I though for sure I would have to take it to a gunsmith

Thanks for the video. How do you usually locate the hole in the receiver shell in the first place to then transfer to the trunnion? I'm working with an 80% and unfortunately don't have an original right now to pull the measurements from.

You do it the other way around. You drill the hole in the trunnion, then use the trunnion to transfer it to the receiver. I just eyeballed it, works perfect. You wont be able to tell.

What size tools did you use for the punch?
Also what trunnion did you use for that?

cant you just use the hole in the receiver as a guide, and use a drill press through that hole into the trunnion?

Sorry for the late response. The hole in the trunnion that I showed was from a factory trunnion that had the hole already drilled. The trunnion I was using did not have that hole already, so I couldn't use that hole for anything. You could use the hole in the receiver as a guide for drilling, but it's at an angle that will cause the pin to not sit flush against the receiver. If you were to angle the receiver and indicate it in so that the bottom of the receiver were running perpendicular to the axis of the drill that should work, but typically that's too complicated of a setup for most homegamers (from my experience).

And just smack it with a hammer (then the receiver slides down and every tooth on that vice GOUGES A DEEP ROW OF CANYONS IN BOTH SIDES OF THE RECEIVER)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell me you have, or are going to get aluminum or copper covers for your vice jaws!

Those are magnetic aluminum inserts on top of the steel jaws.
