FAQ: How Fast Can A Paramotor Fly? Avery Flies

  • In this video I discuss the airspeeds possible with powered paragliding, which (spoiler) are not very high. A lot of the speed is related to wing loading, where smaller wings fly faster, but most wings also have trimmers and/or speed bar connections that modify the angle or profile of the wing to affect a limited airspeed change in flight. Either way, you're not going anywhere too fast! Powered paragliding is not a good replacement for other more reliable and quicker modes of transportation, but it is a load of fun.

    Man that Gravity is SLOW lol. Cool video.

    Also, in a sense it does have to do with engine power, a small engine will not have enough thrust to offset the wingloading on a small viperXC with trims open for example.

      Well, yeah, you have to have enough thrust to maintain flight. But unlike airplanes, as long as there's enough thrust to fly, speed is not derived from increased thrust.

    28m sounds like a huge wing! I think that there are free flight tandem wings that are 28m lol. I have never flown a PPG I fly PG XC, and i fly a 22m at about 92-95 kg AUW and the top of weight is 103, unfortunately I’ve lost weight, it flies MUCH better closer to 100kg, at my current weight it’s very floaty, but squirrelly in strong thermic conditions, at 100 it’s much more solid and it doesn’t feel like I’m getting tossed around like a rag doll as much. Definitely some huge differences between PPG and PG.

      28's not that crazy, size wise, for powered flight. Our tandem trike uses a 42m 😅

    Reflex in turbulence is still better then normal wing accelerated in turbulence. Reflex handles turbulence way better, its just IF it goes bad, it goes bad worse.

      Correct. A deeper dive into reflex is outside the scope of this video, and I'll leave that to the professionals, but that's the gist of it.

    Is that the big wing you sold that had a bulge in the top? Because if so I’ll bet that has something to do with the sloooow speed? Maybe

    • @AveryFlies
      @AveryFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, it's that wing. Similar speed to my Mojo, so I don't think the bulge had much to do with speed.

    You sure youre 105kg all up? Thats pretty good speeds on the 22 f3 for 105kg.
    Have you weighed yourself fully geared and gassed up with the wing in your hands? If not i think you might get surprised when you do

    • @AveryFlies
      @AveryFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน

      160 lbs pilot, 72 lb motor with 1 gal of fuel. 232 lbs = 105.4 kg. Guess I'm not including 3 kg glider weight and 0.5 kg radios, so I guess 108 and some change.

      @@AveryFlies allright. Clothes, , reserve, glider, helmet, phone, radio, shoes etc is often overlooked. Also bodyweight in the morning vs afternoon. The glider is closer to 5kg.
      My auw was around 8kg over my own calculation when i geared up and stepped up on the scale😊

    • @AveryFlies
      @AveryFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน

      110 kg it is then, you got me. I will revise my calculations on the future. Does that sound more realistic for an F3? Regardless, it's a really good wing with a wide speed range

      @@AveryFlies im 120kg all up on my f3 22 and have an average speed of 45kmh or 28mph trimmed neutral according to gaggle

    • @AveryFlies
      @AveryFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, that's heavy on a 22m. Makes sense why you'd ask about weight then, about the same speeds as me.

  • @windsailsurf

    speed isn't the idea or you'd fly a different aircraft
