The fails and experiments are cool, but I wish there was a channel or a playlist for newbies on how to set up a system to grow various food plants. Just straight to the point.

@@Hoocho I'm trying to replicate your Kratky bottles. I have 3 x 0.75l wine bottles + cotton with basil and chives, but 2 weeks and no bueno.
Meanwhile, I have a planter with the same seeds with 50/50 perlite/vermiculite and it's sprouting fine. I think water does not soak up the cotton properly. I may need to restart this.

@@Hoocho Will do it from now on! I tried to tilt the bottle to the side so more moisture would soak up, but it didn't work.
Thanks for the answer. I came for hydroponics, but stayed for time lapses (and hydroponics). Really good music. 🤩

Another kind of method that I use to grow tomatoes in 91F temperature is a pump spray
    1. Regular pail like you have
    2. A plastic tube fixed to a fish tank pump
2.1 The tube is right angled with an elbow connector.
    3. Holes drilled on one side of the pipe so it sprays one side and at top.
    4. Pump is cycled on and off so the water does not get hot.
I note the plant roots grow extremely fast as lots of oxygen is available

I saw these on a USA TH-camr's channel and liked the concept, so of course started planning a way to make a (much) cheaper version. I settled on the "20L Stackable Bin" from KMart - was $12 when I got some, but are now $8 on Clearance (Might have to get some more while they're still available😆).
I covered the bin with black duct tape to keep most of the light out, and cut a hole in the lid for a largish net pot. It's been very successful, especially as my first dabble with DWC.

i like that bucket design! That lid is very handy, but ouch....
I'm 2 months into my first DWC in a 5gal bucket. I also started with beef steak. It's doing great but she's a hungry momma, drinks about a gal of water a day with only a .5 EC increase after 3 days. Lots of flowers so far!

Hi can I suggest that you take off the airstone and let the bubbles be bare..
    what happens is
    1) Massive agitation of nutrients in the roots
2.) Massive spray of water when the bubble reach the top.
3.) When the water falls back down it will drag oxygen back into the water and it will mix quickly
with the nutrients which is stirred by the big bubbles.
BTW: My temperature here is 91F so many tomato plants don't do well.
Another thing about air pumps is that you should put them on a power cycle because
when the pump diaphram gets hot, the air also gets hot and that heats up the water and fungus can
Grow... so cycle on off so that the pump does not heat up the air
BTW: I am on the equator , and its hot and humid

I'm very interested in growing beefsteak tomatos indoors, and I'm intending on ordering a specific set of deep water 5 gallon hydroponic system buckets w/ pumps, and I've found that, but I have no idea how stakes or trellis' will work, much less how to operate LED light(s) for the variations of growth phases.

    • @thehydrobucket

The concept behind the Hydrobucket is to never have to lift/disturb your plant to check or change out your nutrient solution. That also allows your to secure your plant to the Hydrobucket and or a trellis.

DWC hydro bucket systems are nothing but a headache, because they generate MASSIVE amounts of humidity in your tent, and you WILL get PM.
I thought of an idea for a ventilation system to keep the humidity generated by the air stones out of the tent, by having the buckets sealed and then having all the buckets have an inlet and an outlet at the top for a wide vent hose on each side and daisy chaining them and then having a small computer fan pushing air into the buckets so that the humidity is pushed out of the buckets before it can even raise the humidity in the tent, having the end of the vent hose outside of the tent obviously.
