pro tip: if power goes out, remove the water from the bucket, make sure to leave a inch of water in the bottom of the bucket. then fill a spray bottle with the water it was originally in and mist the roots every couple of hours until it comes back on.
that seems like a lot of effort just to avoid kratky for a couple days/ hours. Some people run their plants' entire lifecycle in kratky. It's not optimal but they'll be fine.
Best tip in the video... well there were several really.. but my favorite is LET YOUR PH DO IT'S THING! Different nutes become more available over a range of PH values... You can set your PH at 5.5 on Sunday then find that it is 6.2 on Wednesday... thats FINE! As long as you are changing water weekly.. and keep it within a reasonable range.. think of it as giving your plant a balanced diet.
A small bachelor fridge works great to cool the water. Run a long coil of water tube inside. Tubes can enter and exit thru (small carefully drilled) holes in the door. use a mixing valve to regulate the water temperature
I never hear anybody talk about how much water should be in the reservoir. First time Ive heard that. I havent tried DWC just yet, but would like to give it a shot soon. Good advice tho. Is it ok to keep the res water a little higher when you have a seedling? So the roots can reach the water sooner? Maybe even have some of the bubbles splashing onto the hydroton pebbles untill the roots have made it deep enough? Then go down 3 inches below the net pot?
@@christucker8174 I check my water lvl, ph, and tds about every other day... If all seems within range, I just leave it until the weekly water change.. PH being most important to correct right away... tds is a little tricky, because you never know exactly WHICH nutrients have been taken from the water, so correcting that too much can lead to issues.. At least on the weekly water change day, you know the exact concentration of each nute in your solution
Rule of thumb in DWC is for every forth liter in your system, you need one liter of air pr minute. So if you have a 30 litre DWC bucket, you need a pump that can provide 30/4 = 7.5.L pr/m at least. If you live in colder climate, a cooler is not necessary.
As you stated, you use a commercial air pump. Do you notice reservoir temperatures getting higher than wanted? I know those pumps pump out a lot of heat into the air and would like to know what reservoir temperatures you're running? Thanks
Doit I just started just to see if I like it actually much easier than I always thought but I keep it very basic. I just change my water once a week ph'ed and follow a nute chart I made. That's all I do throughout the week I don't mess with it unless it gets significantly low, growth rate is crazy compared to soil.
If you place your airstone under your basket the water will spray up into the bottom of the basket keeping the small roots moist enough until they grow into the water, I use a 4"x2" large airstone.

PPM question. Why would PPM show as 300 about 10 minutes after mixing with air pump running on high, then later that day drop by about 50 ppm (250), then slowly start raising 5 to 10 ppm a day? Plant looks super happy. Tons of white roots and new leaves. 16 days old from sprouting.

Great video bro. Question I’ve been thinking about. Traditional DWC. If I install a SCROG IN A 5X5. 4 buckets total. What advice do you have for res changes? Is it possible to kind of lay on my side and just raise the plant up out of the old bucket enough to swap it into the new bucket? Or will that disturb my SCROG?
you dont need 24/7 Air pump on. What U need to do is simply cycle on off the pump so that the pump does not heat up. OR if you insist on 24/7 air USE TWO pumps, Cycle pump A then pump B so that system does not get hot in the air diaphram therefor the air wont get hot. You may also want to experiment with NO AIRSTONES with large bubbles splashing up water and agitating the water or a mix of PUMP A airstones and PumpB no airstones. and cycle them
Biggest issue after ive dialed everything in , is airstones clogging. I go through more airstones than anything else. Does anyone have any remedies for this?

@@skankhunt420 that only works if you have planned ahead. but yes that is a perfectly viable option aswell.

Ive grown plenty of times only changing the water once, when flipping. Never really had to changed it every other week.

I would recommend a pump that’s at least 300 GPH for a 5 gallon bucket. You want at least a liter per minute (or 60 gallons per hour) out of your pump
1157 gallons per minute to run a 6 banger .

dwc doesn't give beneficials a substrate to live in. Sterile with a tiny bit of pool shock in your rest is best.
