Ahh . . . The good ol days! When Michigan had a very good chance of winning every Saturday. Especially sweet, as I live only 45 miles from South Bend, surrounded by Noter Damers. LOVE hearing Ufer!
What a treat for College football fans on this day! Notre Dame vs Michigan, and then next on TV USC vs Alabama? Holy Smokes!
This was the first meeting between the 2 teams in a 35 year break. Ufer referred to Leach as the "Guts and Glue of the Maize and Blue". Leach, who had looked forward to this game since his freshman year, sprained his right ankle the week leading up to Gameday....didn't/wouldn't hold him back.
~GoBlue!!
Damn, I loved listening to Ufer. The best homer of all time. He was quite an athlete in his day.
My sister was Gene Johnson's girlfriend from 9th grade until right before they graduated college. Rick and Gene were best friends. They went to southwestern high school in Flint Michigan.
GLORIOUS MEEECHIGAN Team WINS !!!!- oh those were the days.
Bob Yofer is just a great sports caster. Rich Leach the best QB in Michigan history and was the starting QB in the 100 yeas team. And now Joe Montana the great one is now number 2 because the GOAT, Tom Brady and his 6 rings is king and rules the NFL... Go Blue forever...
Rick leach ❤ too
Ufer going crazy! Classic.
My favorite Michigan QB was a guy you probably never heard of. John Wangler. Wangler, Anthony Carter, & Butch Woolfolk were a pretty solid core, and they won a Rose Bowl together. Back then, that was something Big Ten Schools rarely did. Cheers to Michigan!
And they were supported by a defense that did not allow a touchdown for the last 22 quarters of the year!
radar0412 everyone remembers "wingin wangler"
John wrangler went to royal oak shine high school, my favorite quarterback is rich leach a football magician
Notice how wide the field goal posts were then ?
Ha. Giving me flashbacks. I so wanted to go to this game but my dad couldn't get tickets. I was thrilled that it was on TV and I ended up having Ufer on at the same time so I could hear things like "the Michigan 14-14 come from behind football network!"
You gotta love hearing Ufer's call
Bob ufer ❤ bo schembecher & Michigan football
Ufer at his peak!!! Joe Montana!!! Thank you for the memories. "Hucklebe deep and Davis close, two tight ends and a balanced line. Leach under center..."
Never knew fans were allowed on the field during the coin toss.
Not anymore, thankfully , and for obvious reasons.
Irish and wolverines! superb rivalry! old school!!
This particular Notre Dame grad saw Rick Leach pitch a no-hitter against the Irish. How many Michigan folks knew that?
I have serious doubts that Leach was ever a pitcher.
He a quarterback, rich leach could anything including a touchdown
“To HELL with Notre Dame”
Leach , first team all american, heisman finalist: 3 td passes and he scored a Td himself on the ground in the famous Renewal of the Seies, game between rivals UM and ND.
Montana; 3 interceptions, a fumbled pitch to a rb for critical lost yardage, and sacked for a safety in his own end zone. giving UM 2 additional points. Totally choked in front of his home crowd. Never beat Mighty Michigan . Case closed.
Flashback to the late 1970s
thank you so much for this video! Fans on the firld for the coin toss? fans on the sidleins and the endzones the whole game? was college football really like this?! I love it..i was born in 78 in A2. love seeing montana go down and Ufer blow up!
I love Bob ufers commentating so much reminds me of the modern f1 commentators
Meeeeeechigan.
Joe Montana for Notre Dame beat Texas USC Houston but not Michigan.
Great Michigan Team.Hard luck story.Lost to USC in Rose Bowl on Phantom Touchdown. Notre Dame ushered in a down period this season with 3 losses.Program got a boost from Lou Holtz in 88. 78 season redeemed by Cotton Bowl win 🏆🙌👌😎over Houston
The all American and heisman finalist ,Leach for Michigan, scored a td and threw for 3 more Tds. Great win for the wolverines. Joe Montana for nd played very poorly and choked: he caused a fumble with a shoddy pitch out , plus he threw 3 interceptions and was sacked in the end zone for a 2 point Michigan safety. He is probably still having nightmares about the Michigan defense.
Man I woulda hated to be a michigan fan and have to listen to that radio broadcaster talk about being biased
😆🤣😂😹Johnny Most Boston Celtics Skip Carey Atlanta Braves Bob Ufer Michigan Football. All Homer Team
He was the Michigan broadcaster. At least we don't pay an irrelevant broadcasting network to act like we aren't has beens like Notre Dame has done for over 30 years. Every one has radio broadcasters that are biased for their teams
Was Bob Ufer saying God roots for Notre Dame or making 🤔 a reference to movie OH God 😳😬😅?
RIP Roosevelt!
Rudy/joe montana/bo shembeckeler/glen 🍚/ali patsberg
anybody other than musberger has always been awesome
I always thought he was very good, even though he threw Jimmy the Greek under the bus.......
Love Brent mushburger
My three favorite U-M quarterbacks, Leach, Harbaugh and Elvis Grbac. But painful as it is to say, Leach never won a bowl game. 0-4.
They were robbed in that one Rose Bowl game versus USC via a phantom TD.
Rich leach my hero too a football magician, love jim Harbaugh as Michigan coach
Michigan did not win bowl games under bo schembecher until indoor training building;;;; losing to North Carolina hurt; legendary usc football teams also;;, love rich leach legendary quarterback at Michigan;;; rich leach beat Ohio state three time
WOW that is something I dont remebe, maybe it is because I am 23 :) for as long as I can remeber ND home games were on NBC!
The NBC contract started in 1990.
Not 100% sure, but I think that started in the early 90s
Gretchen whitmore mayor/presley hudson
Ufer you're getting carried away. 😆🤣😂😹
G.o.d/catholic college
Montana sucked as a college qb.
Joe Montana, 3 stupid interceptions. Michigan defense dominated, as usual over hapless notre dame.
