To me, Pete's drumming reminds me of the precision of mathematics. Many different sets of numbers and values that come together as an elegant and precise formula to a seemingly complex equation.
Your right....and For me he also sounds very human playing. His beats are organic and his style has room to breathe even though hes fucking hauling balls. Lol. You can tell when its Pete playing versus other death metal drummers. This was great.
Good point..they have a lot of diminished, atonal, chromatic sounding stuff that just sounds spooky. My favorite is the song Diary of A Madman by OZZY, Sinister sounding chords.

@MrBlastBeast 2nd trigger is for backup as soon as one falls out. Pete has been using a mix of triggered/miced drums live for a long time now (I think i started doing this around Gateways or Formulas...)

Pete is all about excellence in interval and timings. Be sure he thinks is himself in fact divided into all the 1/4-1/16 (32ths) divisions otherwise he would have gotten out of the pace after a 10 seconds :)

It always gets me that the top ten of anything has more to do with music that's more mainstream. Rolling Stone and the like are all guilty of this. You have some guy that listens to something like Dire Straits and when asked what drummer he likes best he picks thiers. They can't seem to get past the extreme in extreme metal to realize someone like Sandoval's potential. By the way I have nothing against Dire Straits just using them as an example.
I wonder why he uses even TWO triggers on each drum, because he plays very powerful and straight, there's no need for those tom and snare triggers imo...
