I just barely knicked the boot on a new ball joint while replaving my control arms. I will be doing this or trying some RTV since its a tiny tiny rip in the boot.
Yes it’s best to replace the boot. Amazon carries many universal boot replacements. Glad you found this video. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
I was told by the dealership that I need a new control arm because of a torn boot. I have been driving it this way for over 10k miles with no symptoms. Car has less than 90k miles. To me it’s a manufacture defect. Do you mind sharing what type of vehicle you were doing the repair for?
This was on a 2017 Chevy Equinox. As long as there are no symptoms you can perform this service with universal boot kits off Amazon. They have multi packs with different size boots. You don’t need a new control arm. They are trying to make money. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
You can buy generic boots on Amazon. They have a few that are in a pack of 14 boots that are various sizes. Here is a link: a.co/d/dNPctZo Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
i sense some sarcasm here. I demonstrated this on an old control arm off the vehicle for a better camera angle. You can take the castle nut off and drop the ball joint down to do this while the arm is still on the car. There are of course vehicles where this isn’t possible. I just didn’t want to do it on the vehicle and give the viewer only a view of my hands and arms infront of the camera because it’s a tight space.
