What incredibly beautiful car-to-car shots our cameraman Cornelius brought to us, and this vehicle seems to have an unusual elegance in motion. Also look at the side car-to-car shots where the wheels are "turning backwards" - wow.

Me: lives in Portugal where none of that is standard in the Arteon despite the base car costing almost double of what this R Line costs elsewhere, and I'm just happy they're including the 4 tires on the wheels as standard.
Best Arteon review i've seen. Informative presentation and not over technical and car' testery' talking about overstep etc. Very realistic rreal world review . Love this channel.

yeah its really crazy. 4K recording equipment we have, but the equipment "in the walls" at home or in hotels doesnt catch up =)

The design of the new Arteon appears really cool, progressive and aggressive!! It is the most emotional design of VW in the last few years and the car is a worthy successor of the CC. Especially the new front with the R-Line package appears very strong!! 😍 The interior looks like in the new Passat but even this is on a very high level! Maybe it is possible to launch two sporty V6 engines (diesel and petrol)!! Than the car would feel more sovereign. I really wait for this Review and I´m really looking forward to the new Touareg in the upper class of VW!!
It will be the most dangerous competitor of Audi A5 Sportback. I gues so.

Congratulations. Yet another great review, but I've come to expect nothing less from you guys. You always seem to think about the little problems people could come across in normal daily use. Keep telling us about your "niggles" Brian because the lack of storage for a slightly bigger than normal phone, is the sort of thing that would bug me as well.
Fantastic description and demonstration of the way the ACC uses mapping info. Can you imagine a salesman trying to explain these features to a new owner on handover without going on a lengthy drive, they'd be better off just providing a DVD of your test drive.

Probable the best reviews I have ever watched, unbiased , professional presented and a bit nitty picky (enjoyed that part mostly). Thanks for the radio review, you wouldn't hear reviews about the radio these days. By the R line is a just styling package just like M for BM, AMG for MB and S line for Audi, just the way manufacturers want you to pay for styling, there is not added much performance for these packages.

The Arteon has a very beautiful design, although they could have done a bit more to differentiate the interior from the rest of the VW line-up.
I must say I really like the car, but I doubt they'll be selling a lot of them over here. I expect at this price point most people will decide to get something with a more prestigious badge. I hope I'm wrong because I'd like to see lot of them on our roads! :-)
might be important when your company has a non-premium-brand policy for company vehicles!

What the actual hell, this car has 70l more boot space than my 3-series touring. That's massive for a sport oriented Volkswagen CC successor.
I was under the impression that the Elegance was above the R-line, I really liked the one that Thomas reviewed with the black wheels.

I agree with you on top of the line should be amazing audio. I just don't understand why after market systems sound so much better than car stock systems

Must say, this is the best video I've seen from Autogefühl! Camera work was great and, you, Brian, did a friggin bang up presentation! As for the VW, nice car, but way too expensive, I don't think it hits that hard above it's weight class (lots of great competition in that price range). Thanks and keep up the great work. I did observe the presentation of the VW Arteon in Sandton City and it was marvellous. Quite an excellent machine and it deserves the accolades attached to it.
37:03 - overall the car is (a) superb, but a little (lot) more expensive. Love the car, but they got the price very very wrong
Subscribed! Thank you for the good review of this vehicle, all other Arteon reviews lack the details and simply unprofessional. Can't wait till it comes to US next year and they promise the price tag would start from $35,000 just like the CC. If the price goes above 40k I don't think the Arteon will hit good sales and most people including myself will be looking rather at the mercedes C class or Audi A4 and even A5.

I just looked at prices in my country and I noticed that footwell lighting is not standard on the base spec.
My car (Ford Focus MK1) is 15 years old and it has it. And it didn't cost half as much as this thing.
VW... Why???
Oh, and you have to pay extra for tire pressure monitoring. Too bad all new cars must have it in order to get a license plate. This means the base price they are advertising doesn't exist. Sounds a lot like false advertising to me. Last time I checked that was a crime.

I find the Arteon's very restrained interior design a bit dated and in fact not very classy, and the very limited storage compartment in the front to hold the mobile phone is a bummer, when you think of VW's typically great functionality.

Superb review, the best performance from Brian so far. Camera work is also great, love the lighting and great colors on the video. Brian went that extra mile and showed us more details with excellent explanation. Still, I am amazed by the quality of the cameraman. But looks extra also but a lot of money for it. Does the sensor for opening the trunk work and how sensitive is it? Great work!

An uber priced Arteon model (if so equipped) has a warranty weakness in comparison to its competition; Audi, BMW, Mercedes all have 4yr/50K mile Full new car warranties here in the states. .. VWoA's 3yr/36K mile new car warranty is significantly weak. .. Past VWAG Dieselgate regression only distorts a buyers decision process. ..
Full disclosure: .. we're long term owners of Audi/VW diesels, both in the States and Germany.
Thank you for the objective opinion of the vehicle Arteon. I agree with the pricing. It is slightly aggressive. my dollar conversion value of this car is more at $32,000 for base, $37000 for mid range and $42,000 dollars for the R Line including the 4 motion option and larger Screen display. Where was the sunroof or panoramic view?
I feel uncomfortable paying more for this car. Great review. Job well done. Please consider providing dimensions in inches or display it on the screen for those of us in the united states. Kind regards. Mehran Gerami from San Diego.

The back of the car slightly looks like Audi A7. I can't believe that this Arteon embarks 3 engines to optimize its power
The interior looks soft and friendly to me. It could be emotional feeling. The dashboard is simple, clean and elegant. Seats are in microfiber and alcantara which great and step forward to get rid off animals skin.
Base model: fabric (at least in Germany)
R-Line and Elegance: Alcantara inside, animal skin outside (I dont know why, no leatherette)
test vehicle: full animal skin as always
Pretty disappointing for a future-looking vehicle. The model representatives I talked to at the design studio didnt even know about the animal skin issue.

Great review Brian! My dream? Passat with lots of ambient LED lighting features [including courtesy door VW downlights and sills, your phone storage comment was spot on. Climate control, dynamic indicators, satnav size?, Spare wheel!, Dashcam front and rear NOT just a cam [what for?], Snow performance as they slide with DSG and hard to control, The new 2020 Passat has lost its clock and The Arteon has not!? Grrrr When I enquired about the low profile tendencies at VW they suggested Active suspension but as you know - COSTS! Personally prefer normal profiles but not on R-line obviously. I agree about the stereo and perhaps more colour choices too? I will have to win the lottery! Sunroof? I don't like the front door window adjustments when closing.

I agree with you, the interior is not emotive. You will need to use exotic materials to create that impression, e.g. Lexus RC500 and Lambo Aventador.

Thank you for this review. In my own view, I don't think this car is meant to be full on sporty in anyway. I can see they have tried to keep as much of the Passat elements as possible to keep in line with that model. The back seat areas would not be as comfortable for me as I am 6ft & head room would be a concern. I was in an ordinary Passat & the back seats + room were very comfortable so I would much rather go in that for longer journeys. Cheers.

Great review! However, confusing R-line (styling package) and Golf R (a sports model) is a bit idiosyncratic to say the least. Did you mention what kind suspension there is in the front? If it is not the multilink, the car makes no sense in this segment

I wonder if this is more a rival / cousin of the Audi A5 or the A7? There are quite a few details about the Arteon that make me think that the design team has done more than just given the Audi cousins a passing thought.. Wing mirrors, driving light switch assembly etc etc. Saying this in the positive way, one could do way worse than to draw off of those genes!

Good review however, I am a fan of Thomas though :). Anyway back on the subject. Looks like VW did a good job with all the new models arrived in 2017 this one included of course, but they did not say a word about fixing the "dieselgate" who removed a lot of the trust their customers have in them. What is the Autogeful position or knowledge on this topic? Are these new engines OK? Would be better to look for petrol rather than diesel?

Well, hard to put that into a few words, but let me talk briefly about it.
Basically all manufacturers do some tricks to bring the emissions down in the test cycle, it's just that VW did it in a way that was not allowed and was discovered. That is in excusable. In real life emissions however, what most people dont know is that VW vehicles and also the Diesels are among the "cleanest", there recently was a table where it showed that e.g. Renault Diesels are the most polluting.
As for petrol engines, surprisingly a big old naturally aspirated V8 would be better for human health than a modern small turbo engine, as those ones spit out micro particles. That's why beginning September 2017, also every petrol engine has to have particle filters, at least in the EU. So against micro particles, u need to have those fine dust filters that are already in Diesel engines.
As for Diesel, u also need SCR injection for cleaning NOx emissions - those who caused Dieselgate.
So if you ask me about petrol vs diesel, there are some new Diesels which are maybe as good or even better than modern small petrol engines, e.g. the new small Daimler diesel.
So as for the petrol engines, look out for a naturally aspirated one and not necessarily a small turbo-tuned one.
What I think is even more important is that if you wanna do something for the environment, a) buy a used car, b) used or new buy a CNG car or electric vehicle and c) change your behaviour where it makes even more impact, e.g. not consuming animal products. You can save more lives, co2, energy etc. by that than you could save by driving a car to the moon and back.

Highly informative review. Good job. The car looks nice...now....but probably will not age well. It is a bit over designed. Each and every single element has been stylized. Furthermore, the design uses lots of crisp and clear lines vs a more subtle suggestive approach.

so....driving wise is it any better than the CC? is the steering improved at all? How much behind is it compared to a BMW 4 series? And how does the steering and driving experience compare to the Audi A5?

BMW 4 series or Arteon? Love both although the exterior of Arteon is stunning.
They should really consider an Arteon Wolfsburg with enhanced performance, like real performance. I think this car hits around 240-260hp with the V6, which is weak for what you pay for. VW felt short, considering their more powerful Golf RLine, which is cheaper than the Arteon. The exterior is outstanding, interior is legitimate, but they sure did let-down on performance. It looks sporty, but it's anything BUT sporty when it comes to power. VW let many of us down, looks like I'll have to opt for an Audi -_-
Now I can't not see that chrome joint. The car is still pretty though 😀
