Is Summer the SMARTEST Smith? | Rick and Morty "Night Family" Breakdown!

- Rick and Morty’s 4th episode of season 6 is called Night Family and is probably the most straight up sci-fi romp we’ve gotten all season. And though it might not have as much about it that I really want to dig into as the last few episodes, there were DEFINITELY some really interesting ideas presented, as well as some really interesting tidbits of character development. Character development that I expect will continue to come into play more and more as the show keeps going. There’s also some interesting comparisons to OTHER TV shows here that bring up some pretty fascinating moral quandaries, so yeah, I dunno, I guess I’m gonna talk about that stuff! Let’s do it!

I’m glad Jerry had his moment to shine in this episode. His dorkiness once again saved everyone.
Best thing about this episode in my opinion for sure
Once again?
@@Kingolimar354 Like when he saved Rick's life by going invisible and puppeting Tammy's dead body to distract bird person
Yeah lol I was kinda shitting on him tll that moment. Loved sweet night Jerry
Lovin the path they're taking with Jerry this season! Every episode is better than the next!
I think Summer is more Rick's heir than Morty. She has nothing holding her back, she understands him to a fundamental degree, and unlike Morty, she has no problem talking back to him, so he is able to treat her more like a friend than a grandchild. Plus they're super similar people: insecure hedonists who want attention. Rick realized a long time ago that if you get close to people, you hurt them or they hurt you, Summer is still a high schooler who wants to be popular. And her "resentment" isn't anything new, she said in the Mr. Needful episode that she was jealous Rick was so much closer to Morty.
Also, I am 100% onboard with this season "redeeming" Jerry, I love the path they're taking with him!
Hey, didn't expect you here! Love your content
Damn didn't know you watch Johnny too. Keep up the good content
Makes me wish they'd address why there's no Summer appearances on the citadel really, since she does go on adventures with Rick a good amount and has the grandchild dynamic. I think it could make for some good lore for her on a multiversal scale
Bro that jerry plot twist was so needed and earned I was so happy to see him be the man for once
@@wiktiktik I thought the point of the prison episode was that Rick and Summer's bond is as unique as his bond with Morty, as "radicalizing a Summer" is a capital crime. Which makes sense, since Summer is probably seen as a mean's to an end for Ricks, considering the Morty market. But Rick takes her on adventures and listens to her input.
It's nice to see the show reward Jerry for his compassion, rather than make fun of him for it. He was the only one who saw the night family as people, and that's what (almost) saved them in the end.
I think the show was always meant to kind of deconstruct the original nihilistic premise. This is season so far has been great!
@@Fairygoblet Oh yeah, Rick was never meant to be in the right, but with him being this invincible god-like being and Jerry being a pathetic loser, the message flew over a lot of people's heads.
This is why this has been my favorite episode of the season so far. Jerry has always been my favorite character. I know he has his flaws but the family making fun of him for having his little hobbies that make him happy, and Rick making fun of him for being friends with Rick J19Zeta7 always made me feel bad for him. Like there is nothing wrong with those things.
pretty cool how jerry almost saves the day with a very simple compromise but rick rejects it and ruins the day
@@baconhair9683 Right all he had to do was rince his damn dishes but nah.
Night-Summer literally says to Rick “Your opinion means very little to me”, which calls back to the episode Rick said the exact same thing to her.
The beginning of the episode also strongly hints that Rick actually cares quite a bit what Summer thinks of him; at first he wasn’t going to give anyone but himself a night-person, but a single exasperated sigh from Summer persuaded him otherwise.
also he tells his wife-ghost in episode 1 that summer reminds him of her so, there's that.
You didint watch the episode.. Morty got the first extra😂
+Nemissis4265 they all got one at the same time, it was in the promo where she teases something she was gonna say to rick but is passive aggressive about not telling him which pushes him to give everyone their night people
@@Nemissis4265 his blood gets taken first but that's all lmao summer is the one who makes Rick change his mind
There was also a callback to the line “half of all time happens at night” from the pilot. Random, but appreciated
I love how healthy the Smith family dynamic has been lately, you can tell that they care deeply for one another. Even Rick is getting along with everyone.
It's also adorable how quickly Summer got Rick to change his mind. He's such a softie when it comes to Summer (she does remind him of Diane after all)
I'm amazed that a subset of fans want the status quo of Rick and Morty to remain entirely reliant on the old dynamics. Ie Rick is a genius and you are supposed to look up to him, the family dysfunction is funny, etc etc. To me them constantly being at each other's throats would get old. I'm glad they actually have actual Arc progression.
@@Fairygoblet Exactly, breaking the status quo was a good thing. For example, I'll gladly take the current depiction of Beth and Jerry's relationship over what we had for the first two seasons.
@@matti.8465 Yes! Once they accepted themselves as they were, it trickled down into basically every relationship that they had. Seeing that was much more rewarding than if they had decided to focus on that alternate season 2 universe instead.
I love that in the first episode of the season, Rick says something on the lines of "I don't need you, there's infinite versions of you, I feel nothing for you", and everybody goes "sure Rick, you don't" in a sarcastic manner, and then Rick just look at them like "damn, they no longer believe my bullsh*t". Even Jerry thinks that. Jerry has grown to respect and understand Rick, and Rick seams to do so too.
So why were they being total dicks to the night family? They just can't stand having a healthy dynamic. Sooner or later it's all gonna fall apart
I like how when outmaneuvering the Day family, NightSummer repeats what Rick says in an earlier season, "Your opinion means very little to me" verbatim as if Summer's subconsious took that to heart. I think the fact that Rick sees Diane in Summer will come into play again somehow, too.
So... Beth and space Beth represent self-love. They can interact and even be intimate. Do Jerry and night Jerry represent Jerry's budding self-love? I find it interesting that they are doing episodes about relationship with self for both Beth and Jerry practically back to back.
Seems to be going further. Morty we see a self divided, and Rick starts the season off exploring several kinds of self hatred.
@@kagato23 oh good one! Didn't think about that!
@@Fairygoblet and now that I think about it, this is also an episode about self sabotage.
@@kagato23 you are just full of good ideas today :-)
I think it represents narcissism
Honestly it's really sweet seeing Jerry just be comfortable with himself. Like he knows what he wants and what makes him happy, and unlike previous seasons he's not going to let his family put him down for that.
It's admirable how he's starting to own and if anything, be proud of the fact that he's not like the rest of his family. He's not cold or heartless, and he chooses to value his own personal happiness over intelligence or power.
Might be a stretch, but Jerry is the only member of this family that's actually confident. Everyone else is a mixture of insecure and arrogant.
Jerry can be kind of sweet sometimes. I wasn't expecting to find night Jerry to be so endearing. Night summer legitimately disturbed me. I love it. This episode is all my favorite things in psychological horrors or thrillers.
I felt like this episode showed hints that an Evil Summer character isn’t too far fetched and also felt like Morty’s over-eagerness to be like Rick and have Washboard Abs like Rick, might be a sign of the brain damage he suffered during Roy…
Also loved how Jerry again sorta rose up to occasion… his simple minded use of his Night Person was what brought the family together in their night form…
Jerry’s definitely been most interesting to watch this season… both in humorous and interesting ways of his character development.
Season 6 really is on a roll and a big step up from Season’s 4&5 in terms of consistency in solid writing… and I can’t wait for another Rick and Jerry adventure next week!! As we haven’t gotten a full on Jerry and Rick adventure since Whirly Durley
I mean yeah, episode 2 pretty much soft rebooted mortys character. Pretty shitty of the writers to do, tbh.
I saw a video saying that this season we are actually watching the origin of evil Morty and not our original Morty
Who doesn’t want Washboard Abs?
@@LeftHandLane5 that was the theory for season 5. and season 4. and season 3. I’m tired of hearing it
The whirly Durley? When did you... become cool?
jerry has what none of the rest of them do: emotional intelligence. he really stole the show and my heart this episode.
True.
It's kind of ironic how Rick and the rest of the family value intelligence so much, but when it comes to emotional intelligence they put it down as a waste of time.
They're low-key like how the school system thinks that a student is dumb just because they do bad on a test.
Morty definitely takes after his Dad in this aspect
I love how the show consistently makes interesting sc fi concepts lead to horrifying results.
Like the meeseeks box, morty’s mind blowers and now the night person machine.
You may have missed the references to the movie "US" (whisper talking, shadow version of family, resentment of night people etc.) Not sure if it adds too much to dig into, but it was cool to see that movie's ideas mixed with severence and expanded by the back and forth between Rick and night Summer.
As always, good video. Would definitely be interested in severance content if you decide to do it.
Yes! I got that too. A real mash up between that and Severance.
This season can only be described as a breath of fresh air for the show and I’m here for it.
I get the feeling that somewhere down the line, the Jerry's are going to create a hive mind since every version of Jerry seems to get along
lol 😂 he does like bee keeping 🐝 🍯
not the “evil Jerry” he might come into play next season ( I hope not, because the plot is soooo ridiculous)
Jerry is kinda adorable with how dorky he is with stuff. He’s a really… flawed person, but his dorkiness and kindness is always fun to see. I’m glad to see he’s given a spotlight like this
A dork bee keeper? Kinda cute right? Like.. what dork thing to do, he always does thous dorky things, honestly it's a bit hot...
-u
@@astk5214 looking back on it, she was so real for that
I feel like he’s the only real and human character idk
Did anyone else also feel it had similarities to Jordan Peele’s Us, as well as Severance? The voices, being ‘underground’ selves wanting freedom?
Morty hasn't had a disagreement with Rick since the 2nd episode ... hmmm.
He didn't let Rick have his game controller. That's at least defiance
@@MasterMemo because his brain into overdrive from what he saw. It can happen to anybody. The shock is what saved him and he went super instinct, deeeeeep subconscious. I wouldn't count that
@@ammagnolia idk, I feel like if he didn't have the part of his personality that could defy Rick, no level of subconscious could pull it back.
Great observation but you wanna know what’s better-We are seeing Ricks room for the first time!!!
Mortys are bred for forgiveness and subservience to ricks.
When the family brawling at the end, Rick keeps bringing Morty in and out of consciousness by hitting his head against a rock.
The thing is the night people aren't actually separate beings but more like the subconscious of the main family.
Night Summer makes it pretty clear when she says that she was always inside of Summer
Subconscious thoughts and feelings are below our level of understanding and do inform our actions even if we are completely unaware of them. This is how night Summer can learn a language but Day Summer can still speak it. They aren't two separate beings they are extensions of the same whole.
This is also how night Summer can throw an under handed line back at Rick from SEASONS ago and Day Summer still has no idea about her subconscious hatred of her grandpa.
🎯
Yes!
I really liked this episode. It was such a breath of fresh air for multiple reasons.
- They really toned down the god thing of Rick. This is really the first time he loses. It's not like previous seasons where he really felt overpowered to the point it became too much.
- Jerry was really likeable and kind of the hero of the episode. They really did a great job balancing the "lameness" and why is lameness is an advantage. He is constantly joke about. But he's not really the prime butt of the joke here.
- interesting and well executed concept. The style of the "horror" aspect isn't really something we have had so far. It was really engaging and you never really knew where it was going.
Good episode.
Totally agree. I loved that Rick kept getting outsmarted. Kind of like season 1 when he made dumb mistakes like the Cronenberg love potion.
Rick hasn't been overpowered since Season 3.
@@enterthekyuubi A great change imo. Him being a "God" was fun, but from a writing and development perspective I feel like it wasn't a good move.
Absolutely love you covering cartoons through these deep dives, but I also would love to see you cover Severence with how passionate you are about it!
I feel like the night people are re-arrangements of Mister Meeseeks. They would have actually kept doing what they were supposed to with no change, if change wasn't introduced from outside. And I think Jerry has complete responsibility in this one XD. If Night Jerry hadn't been in contact with Jerry through letters, the night people wouldn't even have thought about making requests. Night Jerry is the more morally advanced of the night family because he got challenged and evolved with his relationship with Jerry, so he tried to help the others, starting with Night Summer, who asked for something incredibly simple. Even though she then convinces the Night family to yearn for more, she still just wants the day family to rinse their plates. Her only desire is for her job to be a little easier. Night Jerry, on the other hand, is much more complex, ending up wanting to help the day family because he understands the ramifications of Night Summer's plan, and he understands that no one in the night family would actually be happy if they succeed.
And now I spent way too much time thinking about this XD
I like the way ur exploring this, feels like rick is getting what he deserves lately and im a bit sad u didnt tackle rick’s persistent denial of rinsing for 2 seconds for the nightfam that shows his stubbornness overall as a character though and u couldve explored what it means for future episodes
To rick that is losing and he chooses to die than lose, is selfish but in caracter
Funny part about this episode, as soon as they brought up the idea of night people I immediately said how will Jerry ruin this? My reasoning was the meeseeks and destroy episode and it turns out he was the one to save the day. I’m glad Jerry got this win I actually really like him as a character.
I agree, i love that a character can genuinely surprise me after this many seasons.
Rick’s trust of Summer has to come from the way she reminds him of Diane
It was mentioned earlier in this season so I’m interested to see how it further develops in the rest of the season and show
@6:46 in the episode Mortyplicity, the Smiths were fighting against other decoys, it was almost as if it was hammering in the point that they are their own worst enemies, this felt like it was doing that as well
Season 6 has been really great so far, really happy with where the show is going right now
The one thing you didnt talk about is how Day Summer actually also controls Day Rick. Rick originally doesnt want to give out night-people but Summer gets him to do it without saying a word.
I have a theory as to why Rick was more subservient as “Night Rick”. I think it has something to do with his mindset towards night people. He sees them as purely utilitarian and in his night person’s eyes, he seems to be only interested in getting stuff done, and the same goes for Morty. They had simple goals for their night people, and their night people ended up being less ambitious for it. Meanwhile, Summer and Beth’s night people seemed to be the most ambitious and vindictive. I think it may have to do with the fact that their goals were way more ambitious, and it made their night people more ambitious, but also more resentful.
Beth learning to pay the trumpet kinda reminds me of when Rick escaped the federation he left that guy with his desire to learn the trumpet
I love that every episode is centered on a family member. Episode 1 was on Rick and Rick Prime. Ep2 was on Morty. Ep3 was on Beth & Space Beth. Ep4 was on Night Summer. And the next one is Jerry's episode. Lovely writing, simple but well executed.
The fact that the night family chooses to spend time together on vacations is actually sweet. They are born from the unconsciousness of the characters, so kind of are them and what do they want to do deep down? Spend a great time together.
Jerry is starting a genuine relationship with himself, as Beth has done. She was literally having the same conversation of "what do you like? omg I like that too" last week.
And he probably still mourns Sleepy Gary.
Im glad they made Jerry's compassion save the family and Rick's stubborn attitude what started all the mess.
This was such a great episode, and I've always loved how they write Summer to be so competent, and smart, I hope she continues to be more of a main part of the show like she was for this and the Tower Man episode
Oh sorry forgot I was on Earth, I mean the Die Hard episode
This episode was also incredibly pretty, some shots of the house are gorgeous, I love the way they played with blues and purples throughout.
Great episode! Really loved Jerry's relationship with himself. Seems he's learning to love himself in his own small ways. I think a really fascinating aspect of this development on his part is how subtle the way his discomfort with himself is gradually getting lifted is very touching and wholesome.
Between this and "Bethic Twinstinct," I'm getting a sense of this season setting up to explore characters' relationships with themselves (or parts of themselves) in greater detail, which might hopefully lead to some greater exploration of Rick's self-loathing in the light of the Rick Prime thing.
I wonder if Rick Prime killed the Dianes and Beths of free-thinking Ricks because he knew Summer would one day be a colossal threat
Oooo god theory
I don’t agree because I think Rick Prime’s target was our Rick because he did drop that bomb through a portal that lead to his garage where he knew he worked so his original wife and Beth dying could have been accidental and the bomb was meant for our Rick because he wouldn’t fall in line with what Rick Prime wanted him to do so he decided to get rid of him maybe 🤔
listening to you talk about the first 4 minutes has me going "this is just the regular life of a person with mulciplicity".
Maybe we can do a deep dive on Jerry this season. In every episode he's featured in, his character has advanced. In 'Solaricks', he was a total badass as one of the last men on Earth. I now see he took control in 'Bethic Twinstinct.' And now in 'Night Family; he is actually the reason the Smith Family escapes their situation. He is much more than the butt of jokes this season. It's funny - I heard someone say "Most people would like to think of themselves as a Rick...when in reality, we're mostly Jerrys."
Not gonna lie, as someone fascinated with desire, and psychology, this episode of having someone who can live and act while you don't realize it was really unsettling to me. Even if it's not likely to happen.
The 10 man fight between 5 people after the car crash absolutely hit my funny bone, the sheer chaos of a side switch and that happening mid fight, I think they covered that aspect brilliantly. I could hardly keep up with who was who. I really do think Jerry is becoming my favourite character slowly though, he's had the best jokes and development of the series so far.
Half of this season so far showed that both Summer and Morty have the potential to defeat Rick.
I love how in this season Rick is less invincible and capable of mistakes.
I loved Jerry being friends with his Night self. I thought it was just sweet. Then Night Jerry is a true friend and I think I cried tears of joy.
Also Somnambulator… when it was glowing pink… my first thought was “huh almost looks like a Pink Portal” which naturally I would associate with Summer IF she had her own Portal Tech.
I wouldn't be surprised if Summer subconsciously resents Rick for always taking Morty on adventures, and knowing that Rick has gone out of his way to protect this Morty while she's like the second variant to him. He also expects her to take on tasks to help him when it's out of his hands, like the homing beacon, while still being second to Morty in Rick's priorities. It's like the night versions of them are sort of the dream versions, as in, without the conscious thought that we care with us while awake, this might be how they would act if not for that aspect, but gaining awareness as they continue to manifest each night. Where in a dream you forget things about the waking world and then act based on the parts of you still aware in the dream, at the whims of where your mind goes with it. Pretty good horror episode altogether.
Aside from the premier this episode might be my fav of this season so far, thought it was such a cool experimental episode with its tonal differences and overall action towards the end was just the icing on the cake!
I actually really liked the character driven moments paired with the more episodic nature of the episode. I loved the tone and experimental nature of the story and choreography. I don't know why but I enjoyed this episode so much!
You make these videos so fast! I watched this at 3am and went to bed looking forward to your breakdown
Summer is gonna be like Space Beth in a couple seasons.
Honestly I think she already is. Rick trusted her to set the interdimensional beacon over Space Beth. And then during that sequence Summer had to save both Beths.
I feel like Jerry is really wholesome in this episode
I think this is my favorite episode of the series honestly. I love the concept the colors... just everything about it.
I watched severance on your recommendation and it was mind blowing, me and my partner ended up binging through it. I would love it if you made a review
We only see the garage and Rick’s lab for a small handful of scenes, but the way the rest of the Smith house is presented makes it feel far more unsafe than those rooms ever made the house seem because of the lack of science fiction devices. The smashed plates, the missing furniture, the way the foyer seems larger in the dark all lends itself to the horror tone atmosphere because we can conceptualise it in a real life context in the most horrifying way. Waking up to find all your furniture gone would be a scary thing.
A horrifying idea around the somnambulator is what if you program your night self to do something beyond the physical capabilities of the body you share? Nothing physically changes between personas beyond the eyes, you’re still eating for two and no longer getting the rest you need. It’s like a willing version sleep deprivation in terms of how your body reacts.
I'm kind of surprised that they have Rick still acting this childish as to not rinse his plate, though it seems like no one had rinsed their plates. Rick seems to have wanted this night person for the purpose of bossing around, as he could easily make the devices that would accomplish these goals to being with. Otherwise, he saw a cool gadget and went "Oooooooo", which is still what Rick does if it's anything he hasn't fully played with.
Man I've been loving both Jerry and Summer's character growth
I feel like they’ve made a really positive move this season by making sure that everything is driven by character development, but not in a gimmicky “Two Crows” way, but more in exploring the characters qualities and issues and seeing them grow or regress in various ways. It’s also a nice spread in terms of emphasizing the ensemble, since the best stuff of the last couple seasons has probably been exploring the depression at the heart of Rick’s misanthropy and Morty’s various romantic relationships. The high concept stuff like the “Tickets Please Guy” episode can be cool, but I feel like it fails when it takes no real interest in the inner lives of the characters.
My favourite gag in the episode is how at the end morty and Rick knock each other in and out of their night person selves by head butting each other.
I’m so happy you brought up Severance! Maybe because I’m obsessed with it, but I was making connections throughout this entire episode too. I’d love it if you made Severance videos as well
@4:09 The clue was in the very first episode of this season:
"Summer is our grandchild, Diane. She REMINDS ME OF YOU".....
Of course subconscious Rick would obey/serve the memory of the woman he is still morning after all those years...
It's more like he has a soft spot for Summer specifically. He treats her more like an actual grandchild than he does Morty (at least until this season)
Am I the only one who thinks the premise of this episode very strongly mirrors the movie “Us” Especially the dialogue and the way the night people whisper talk
You forgot to mention Ricks character development in this one! Like how he used to not care what the family thought of anything and then decided to let them in on the night person thing especially after Sommer said something about it. She also hits Rick with the resentment she’s held on him from the past as her night person. One of the reasons I love this show is because of the character development. Each season we’ve seen the characters grow. Morty barely takes Ricks shit anymore and cleans up his messes and Summer as well. Rick has also been realizing his problems more and I’ve also noticed him drinking less.
I actually think this was my favourite episode of the season so far, just for the unexpected horror/thriller elements.
Not even close.
agreed, i didn’t expect much of anything from this episode but i fell in love with the concept and vibe!
Yeah. This episode feels like the writer wanted to make a horror movie but they couldn't get a studio to back them up so they just turned it into a Rick and Morty episode.
I don't know about the smartest but she def has the best social skills in all the family and having those can get you a lot farther than being a genius I imagine
the rooster alarm clock was a nice touch- another example of Rick creating life just to serve him. going back all the way to the robot who passed the butter 😂
Severance videos? Yes Please.
I am so glad you are covering every episode Johnny. I am not using HBO Max since the cartoon incident, and I am not following when os going to drop. So when you post a review, is when I know I can look for the episode
Major Jordan Peele vibes, and specifically "Us", from this episode.
Honestly I've been invested in the show ever since it changed Rick's dynamic in the show from "invincible asshole who always wins" to a much more interesting deconstruction, and moments of vulnerability. I like seeing him lose, and then get back up because he's learning. Seeing a vindictive, dark version of Summer get the best of him here was really satisfying, especially since he stayed stubborn to the end, and it was a thrill to see the family fight back for each other.
I like to think that this episode shows how much influence Summer has over Rick. At the beginning of the episode, she kinda manipulates Rick into letting the rest of the family use the tool in the first place. Even in the first episode of the season, I remember Rick talking to his late wife's AI(?), saying that Summer reminds him of said wife. My theory aside, I like to see development in Jerry and Summer's characterization in this season so far.
if Dexters Lab went down a more adult route like Rude Removal I feel like Night Family would have been a Dexter's Lab episode in a more adult style
Summer is likely the smartest in potential at least… she is also not a constant in the multiverse like morty is so I believe she is the wildcard and the fact her night person personality can convince night Rick to do her bidding you might be completely right
There rlly isn’t a dominant smith. Beth is a spitting image of her father. Summer is a spitting image of her grandmother. Morty is probably the most capable one due to experience he’s just suppressed.
It seems like every episode so far has been an exploration in some way of the characters relationships to themselves; the first episode Morty’s consciousness being split into billions of distinct pieces, the second episode Beth falling in love with her clone, and then this third episode the family fighting with their night people, except Jerry who befriends his. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to the portal gun being broken because now instead of running away to other realities it seems like the family is reckoning with their own.
Actually night family is the 4th episode 😁
I feel the entire series is showing that she is by far not the smartest, she's just the most sociopathic of the family next to Morty and Rick, which is made worse as she just chose to be that way when Rick made Morty into the person he is now, whereas Morty and Rick feel bad about the things they occasionally do, Summer I don't think is capable of understanding it.
I don’t watch Rick and Morty, but I’ve really enjoyed the videos you’ve made on the new season! It’s very interesting to hear about all of the character work they’ve been doing. I also like how you talk about what you liked as well as what you didn’t enjoy so much, but you always remain respectful in the way you say it. I hope you enjoy the episodes to come!
Also, I’d totally watch a video about Severance, too. I’ve seen the ads for it quite a bit and it sounds interesting!
This was my favourite episode since season 3. Laughed the whole way through.
Rick and Morty just meet the Summerist Summer.
Noticing a trend this season of entities created by science or Rick's science gaining independence and autonomy and the out come from that.
There are so many ways Rick reinvents slavery and it goes wrong
Another example of summer stepping up as a leader is when she realises rick is trapped in Tiny Ricks mind, or that she is responsible for taking care of Rick and Morty after their breakdowns when using the mindblowers. Finally, in season seven Rick explains that he respects summer a lot.
Night Summer being the leader of he Night family makes a lot of sense, considering that the Night people are born from the subconscious of the Smiths. Rick may have a very head-strong personality, but subconsciously he wants Summer's approval. Summer is already a leader at heart, but "follows" Rick because he *is* her grandfather. But when their subconsciouses take over, the roles are flipped.
That's interesting. One thing I do think about is if Morty didn't get soft rebooted in the Roy episode Night Morty could've turned out to be another manifestation of evil Morty. Because there were parts of Morty that wanted to break off and do their own thing and that had a cynical distrust of Rick and being tired of his bs. If that happened he would've been the leader through his own tenacity.
This episode and the "Die Hard" one are my favorite from this season. I can watch them over and over.
This episode really shows another big thing about Rick& Morty they have the guts to try new aesthitical features even tough they are very popular and are far along in the run.
This episode was one of the most experimental ep. R'n'M made.
they really leaned into sci fi horror for this ep, really been into this season so far
Jerry talking to his night person instead of abusing him, also speaks to the fact he’s not a raging narcissist like Beth is shown to be time and time again. He’s pretty okay with himself, but just not his place in the universe against Rick
Rick and Jerry get on with each other better now 😉
This season is the jerry redemption arc
This isn't a deep analysis comment, I just wanna say I loved the horror vibes in this episode, especially the soundtrack. It's a really great horror short story with potential
Johhhhhny 2 Cellos coming in hot with another great episode! Thanks man!
Stargate SG-1 - Season 6 - Nightwalkers
you do have to love that Jerry being the only one to treat the "night people" as having sentient agency...
wound up being the saving grace to the family for the entirety of the 2nd act... only to have Rick blow it all up proverbially speaking.
Though it does lead one to ponder...if Rick didn't refuse the request at the end... KNOWING that the night-family would screw it all up and destroy the machine FOR THEM.
I feel like Rick and Morty is slowly moving towards all the Smith family having their own version "Council of Ricks."
Woah, just saw the first episode of Severance It’s absolutely great.😂😮
what i do like about this season is they're managing to find a way to combine lore with regular adventures
Make a video on severance man! Obviously animation is your main groove and that’s why I love your channel but you should spread those wings and make some cool off best videos
This is one of my favorite Seasons so far,I love it so much, this is my favorite shoe and I loved watching in every Monday(for me bcs timezones),I hope the remaining episodes are gonna be as epic and fun as these ones
