I feel like an oddly high number of your videos include an apology for one thing or another, and they're consistently some of the best content out there on 40k lore. Your work has kept me company through many hours of painting and modelling, and the time has been more enjoyable for it.
Not hit the target dead on? Your modesty does you credit, Baldermort, but just like so many times before, you rolled a natural 20 on this one.
Talking about Naming conventions for custodes all i can think about is “KITTEN!”

Heh, I only played one game of new Kill Team (and watched another). It was against Custodes and... it made me not want to play any more... 2 fire teams of 2 Custodi each is way too strong. Death Guard gets 2 fire teams of 2 Plague Marines each, Space Marines can take one fire team of 5 Intercessors... and Talons of the Emperor can bring this :-P Pretty crazy nonsense.

Funny thing is, that one on one, Thunder Warriors win... But the Custodies had better weapons, and the Emperor had given the Thunder Warriors less ammo so they would be out when the fight started. In a fair fight, they are the best.

Malcador has long been my favorite character in all 30-40K lore. And then I realized that he was my Warhammer version of Raistlin, and I loved him even more.😁 (Honestly I’ve been wanting to make a Malcador character model, looking for a generic wizard who didn’t have a beard- do you have any idea how difficult that is?- but for some reason never thought of just searching out a Raistlin model, even though I had one back in 1990 or so.😐)

I'm the first to admit that the Custodes were not very high up on my list of warhammer lore interest. I don't know how you are doing it, but you always manage to breathe such life and vigor into the lore that one cannot help themselves but to take keen interest in it. Another greatly narrated entry! And Mrs. Baldermort's music choice fits like a glove once more!

For those confused about the Emperor's view of the Custodes vs all the others-
Nails are vital in carpentry, without them many things would be impossible to build. But I'd prefer to waste hundreds of those than lose my jigsaw or drill.

The Custodes are elitist jerks, too expensive to produce, and just hang out around the palace being the big E's lapdogs. Let's not forget they had one job, just one as in protecting the Emporer and failed at that by being fooled and bested by "lowly" Astartes. The cowards should go fight some Nids if they really wanna help the Emporer.

I kitbashed mine using Trajann Valoris and using apoxie sculpt to make a face plate on a warden helmet to make it look like Kitten’s. Lol

At first I was experiencing sadness at the direction the story was going with the Custodes ending an entire chapter without explanation until the very last of them remain, but my gosh the reveal at the end.. perfectly delivered! It makes perfect sense! And that voice over for the Custodes pretty much what I imagined what a Custodes would sound like in my head

Nothing and no one could have breathed such glory and depth into the custodes lore and especially their story as you do. An ongoing Custodes SSF would be an absolute treasure!

@@raymanx187 oh I was considering scaling down and doing the Fabulous Custodes. If I were to do the stilts one I’d practice the absolute hell out of the stilts in order to get it fluid since the custodes are said to move gracefully
Two observations regarding that ending speech:
1.) I think the entirety of the Black Templars would lose the will to live if they heard that speech, because they could never match that level of scorn.
2.) As much of an Imperium fanboy as I am, yeah, I think I understand where some of the traitor legions were coming from.

I haven't watched Warhammer videos for a few months now. But when I saw this vid, i couldn't have clicked any faster!
watching as I paint my telemon, excellent video. We're living in the Golden Age of custodes lore. Major props to Chris Wraight. Great drama piece alongside the lore as well Sir.
If there is one thing I do like about recent custodes lore, is how compassion is not lost on some of them. Like shield captain Achallor. That scene when he wrapped his cloak around a cold guards men was touching.
The voice over for the custodian was 10/10
Most surprising to me when I joined the WH40K universe was how the Custodes are portrayed to be incredibly smart and wise. Abundance of knowledge and skill. All humanity could strive towards and as close to the emperor as possible.
I just wish I could forget some of the stories I heard and read...

I really adore the part of the Custodian's training that demands they be intriguing and engaging conversationalists for a mind as vast and ancient as the Emperor's. Like. Think about that for a while.
There are few within the Imperium that could even rival the Emperor ten thousands proud bodyguards, and one whose legend is heard across the Galaxy as the most finest warriors that mankind ever produce.
No contest. 1v1 an imperial Assassin or higher demon, maybe, but as a host, a force of will, the Ten Thousand are unmatched.

Misericordia, literal translation from Latin is "Mercy". I always found it strange that a dagger would be called mercy. One of the speculations was that it was used to grant a merciful death to the badly injured, another one was a dagger was often the weapon of choice to threaten a defeated noble or knight. Bested in combat, a dagger poised in the gaps of the armor, people cry "misericordia" and are spared to be ransomed later on. If not, and the noble wasn't well known, killed on the spot as it wasn't worth the hassle to keep a prisoner. Interesting though that Custodians bring their daggers or Misericordias to hunt traitors. Bringing the Emperor's "Mercy" to his enemies.

This... this is honestly a masterpiece I have been a mainstay fan of the custodes since I was introduced to the 40K universe (still my favourite faction) I honestly cannot wait to see you do a video on my absolute favourite character in the setting Constantine valdor!

I find it rather bizarre that just because they were ambushed, the custodes thought the marines were unfit for purpose. Yes, astartes are below custodes. Yes, they are much more human and thus fallible than the custodes. But being ambushed by the great enemy does not mean they were betrayed from within. The black and white thinking of the custodes will always be perplexing to me. I know they blame the astartes as they should do but purging an entire chapter over such an infraction would be impractical and counter productive, especially given the needs the imperium suffers from now more than ever.
I am aware that this is your interpretation of them but I have seen it before as well. If they truly are the peak of humanity in both prowess and teaching, then perhaps they should look inwards and see just how fallible they really are. They may never fall to chaos, but they still suffer from the gift, or sometimes curse, of being human
Yup, nothing against Baldis storytelling but the custodes motivation seemed to have been just "my dick is bigger than yours"
@@servit0r as I mentioned, that seems how all the custodes have been recently. Even in official gw stuff, they look down upon the astartes almost in disgust. Only when they surpass their expectations are they even acknowledged. The custodes in the Torch Bearer fleets were probably the worst for this.
As stated what the custodes are doing is just dumb. They lack the information about the state of things and purging the remnants of a chapter for something so petty may well have just doomed that whole sector because now it is defenceless. Had the custodes known that the chaos forces had already wipes out 3 entire chapters, they may have respected the astartes more for surviving for so long. As they ambushed the chaos forces, by their logic there was a double agent in that chaos warband feeding information to the custodes which quite frankly is absurd.
Now that I think about it, custodes vs salamanders or raven guard would be quite impressive to see. Salamanders sheer fire and craftsmanship and the mastery of shadows and deception of the raven guard pitted against the gods of battle that are the custodes.
They are by no means Gods of war. The custodes could win a single war if they wanted to but they would lose 3 others across the sector. Without the astartes, even with all their failings and imperfections in the eyes of the ten thousand, the custodes would have nothing to defend except the husk of a galaxy and the rotting world that is terra
