I had the great fortune to be at that concert in London’s Royal Albert Hall. It was an amazing night. The musicians on stage are all just amazing. Not only do you have two thirds of the legendary group Crosby stills and Nash on stage, but you also have Rick Wright from pink Floyd on keyboards, Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music on guitar, Guy Pratt on bass who has worked with Pink Floyd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gary Moore, The Smiths, Roxy Music, Iggy Pop, Tom Jones, and many many others. Then we have Jon Carin on keyboards, who has worked with Pink Floyd, Brian Ferry, Kate Bush, The Who, Roger Waters and many more. And Steve DiStanislao on drums, who has toured with David Crosby, and Don Felder (ex the eagles). It really is testament to how respected David Gilmour is, that he was able to put together a whole tour with those musicians, not just a single night. And it was a long musty date tour taking in some of the most iconic venues across Europe.
The lyrics were principally written by Gilmour's wife, writer Polly Samson. On an Island is the third solo studio album by Pink Floyd member David Gilmour. Much of the album was recorded in Gilmour's private studio aboard his houseboat Astoria. Peace out. Peace out.
Crosby and Nash from the band Crosby, Stills, Nash and then Neil Young joined. Gilmore is and always will be next level for me and for many others. Genius level guitar playing. The way he can get his guitars to convey emotion has always been incredible. For me, whenever I work out, it’s got to be jazz. It just puts my mind at ease. Great reaction to this song Polo.
All this I would agree with but with one addition. I think he has a wonderful voice as well. But I guess when you can play guitar like that, well you know hahaha
@@ozzyzak Durga McBroom has stated that even though Gilmour considers himself a guitarist that can sing, he puts almost as much effort into perfecting his vocals as he does his guitar. Truly a master at his craft.
To my thinking there were 3 phases to PF. Phase 1 was the Syd Barrett years where he was a strong writer and was lead guitar. His drug use led the band to invite Gilmore into the fold as backup. They had to eventually gently phase Barrett out and Gilmore took over guitar and many vocals as lead. I disliked this phase. Next was the Roger Waters phase. He wrote most of the songs and was a co-lead in vocals with Gilmour. Following the Wall, one could say he got a big head and began being the primary lyricist and took creative control, the rest of the band admitted they didn't have any lyrics to contribute. Waters also tired Richard Wright during his reign. His final album for PF was basically his solo album and tensions were high. He eventually quit and stated to the world that PF was over. Gilmour and Nick Mason disagreed. I liked only Dark Side of the Moon from this era. This started the Gilmour phase which consisted of three studio albums (Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell and Endless River. They also had two monster world tour resulting in the albums Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse). This was the phase I became a fan of PF and loved it!
It is great to see 3 prominent performers from the 1960s performing together decades later. David Crosby & Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, and Nash) were masters at harmonizing.
As a guitarist I have always been in awe of David's ability to convey feeling through slow solos. And the bending of the string is a mastery I am struggling to think of anybody close to his ability.
This is likely my favorite song off this album. As always, David paints a picture with his music. I have a feeling of warmth and family when I hear this. Polly, his wife, has written/co-written most of the lyrics for the past 25-30 years. I love that David Crosby and Graham Nash lent their harmonies to this song. David’s voice is still strong after all these years-pretty amazing!
Dude, you got two members of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Those guys were monster famous before Gilmore was ever on the music scene. Never knew they collaborated on anything like this.

Any song from the Division Bell is peak Gilmour. His solos on Poles Apart, Marooned, Great Day for Freedom… You’ve done High Hopes which was the best way to close out Pink Floyd imaginable.
I've been captivated by Floyd/David Gilmour music for 45+ years now, and I can honestly say that this is my favorite album of all, whether as a group or solo. Yeah, it's that good. In addition to the tremendous songwriting and elite level musicianship throughout, there's an overriding sense of a man who has come to terms with his place in this world yet is very much at peace with his life and has a great appreciation for all the blessings therein. Do yourself a favor and listen to this entire album, preferably on or near a body of water on a beautiful day, perhaps enjoying an adult beverage or two ;-)
The guitar David's playing in this song is the black strat that he sold in 2019 at an auction for charity! He sold 120 of his guitars and amassed a sum of 23 million for charity and that one black strat sold for just under 4 million dollars which was the record at the time! Also it doesn't hurt when your backup singers are from a group who have sold over 70 million albums themselves!! That group is Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Here you have David Crosby and Graham Nash! A group known for their incredible harmonies!
Be sure to check out David Gilmour - A Great Day For Freedom (Live In Gdansk). It's famous. A great concert where the band is accompanied by a Polish symphony orchestra and there is an absolutely brilliant guitar solo here too. You will be thrilled!
There's a video of this whole concert, "David Gilmour, Live in Gdansk" that is just phenomenal. I think you can watch the whole thing here on TH-cam. * edit the Live at Gdansk Concert is not the same show as this. It's without the Crosby and Nash backup but it's a wonderful show.
Love Dave Gilmour so much. My dad was an animator on a lot of Pink Floyd's stuff in the 70s (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall). Mum never really loved Pink Floyd though (despite having otherwise great musical taste) until she watched this concert and particularly song. She literally turned to me with a "OK, I was wrong, that was brilliant" look on her face, like I hadn't just seen her spend an hour totally enraptured.
I'm so happy and impressed that you did this song!! The whole album is incredible but somehow doesn't seem to be really well known, except by the true fans 😊
Dude, doing deep dives on bands like Tool & Pink Floyd is anything but crazy!! Looking forward to more Pink Floyd, you won't be disappointed!! And we'll enjoy the ride!!
Correct me up I'm wrong. I think he also played " In Any Tounge " at Gdansk. That performance with the back up singer just melted my mind. So incredible. Then again it is David Gilmour. Mind melting is the norm.
Hi. You asked in a previous reaction, "High Hopes", whether there was any instrument which David Gilmour can't play. Well from this same concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London I give you "Red Sky At Night" featuring David on Sax. Truly beautiful, David seems to have his own unique sound on any instrument he chooses to pick up. Also well worth watching from this concert "Remember that Night" is the version of "Comfortably Numb" featuring David Bowie where Bowie, like all great artists, truly makes the song his own. th-cam.com/video/HiliWUh9jZ0/w-d-xo.html
My word!!! My first time hearing this one as well. Saw Nash n Crosby standing there, and knew the harmonies would be off the scale... but damn. I'm bout to listen again!
On an Island was a great album. Love the reaction! A couple more Pink Floyd songs to add to your list: Sorrow, live Pulse tour and On the Turning Away remastered. Both songs are incredible and David delivers with solos that will blow your mind!!Thanks for the great work!
After the 1994 Pink Floyd album 'The Division bell' and massive tour... David Gilmour had come to a consensus w/ (the late) Rick Wright and Nick Mason that Pink Floyd should come to rest... There was no official announcement that Pink Floyd was over; fans waited for a new album or tour, but nothing happened by 2000... former bassist Roger Waters was back on tour playing Floyd songs in concert. David Gilmour had released 2 solo albums (self-titled in 1978... and 'About face' in 1984) and neither were commercial hits at the time... Gilmour announced plans to reunite Pink Floyd in 1986 - he felt that he was too old to "restart his career". Pink Floyd reunited w/ Roger Waters to play their final show for charity in 2005 - the Live 8 concert. After a long absence, David Gilmour announced his 3rd solo album 'On an island' in 2006 using the same musicians on Floyd's 'The Division bell' album (Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright also contributed and played in his live band) and wife Polly Ann Samson contributed the lyrics... the album was a success (#1 in the UK, #6 in the US charts) and the tour was a huge success as well... Gilmour released a live album 'Live in Gdansk' in 2008... it would be the last live recordings w/ Rick Wright (who passed away in 2008). Gilmour returned w/ a 4th solo album 'Rattle that lock' in 2015, and it was different from Pink Floyd's somber style... Gilmour launched another massive tour in support of the album and released 'Live at Pompeii' in2017 (Where Pink Floyd had filmed a set in 1972)
Uptempo rock for me, particularly for weight lifting. Prog rock (Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis) for distance running. This song would make a playlist for running-contemplative and flowing.
Indeed. Saw him twice during his About Face tour in 1984 at smaller, acoustically excellent venues. Been to countless concerts over the years and those were two of the best ever.
Hey man, I love your videos. Even the ones of the songs I love that you cant even get through, I love your honesty. Much love from the UK. Keep doing what you do.
Cool reaction mate, the 2 'back up' singers are also legends. Please check out Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young especially if you like Simon and Garfunkel. Crosby and Nash also part of The Birds and The Hollies respectively. Probably lots of predictive spelling errors going by the amount of people who can't spell GILMOUR in the comments section lol
You should check out Child in Time, by Deep Purple. It’s a live recording from 1970…..you will be impressed with the whole band, but the vocals are amazing!
When I exercise or workout I mainly listen to Christian music but lately after losing my earbuds I've haven't listened to any music but I just focus or count
Good grief. "The twins" happen to be the now late David Cosby and Graham Nash from Crosby, Sills, Nash & Young!! Im kind of shocked that so many "reactors" don't even look into the most basic background on what they're reacting to! It makes people appear ignorant and unprepared for what they say they're doing. Just my opinion. I like to know that somebody is putting the time in to educate themselves if they're calling themselves reactors. Otherwise its basically just like somebody hearing a song on the radio & saying they like it (or dont).
David Gilmour has written all of the music on his 4 solo albums, as well as a fairly large portion of Pink Floyd's catalogue, but never wrote a lot of the lyrics (his only weakness). David's wife Polly has written most of the lyrics for him beginning with Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" album as well as his last 2 solo albums.
Polo, I've never heard this performance before. This coming from a Floyd-o-holic. Yes, an extremely beautiful song by David G. and his wife. I think your "so-so" first guitar solo by Gilmour had to have changed during the last guitar solo!!! I know my eyes were watering. Keep listening and enjoying, my friend.
OMG! That's David Crosby and Graham Nash signing harmony!!! If you don't know who they are, you definitely need to check out their music! Crosby Stills and Nash are gods of Rock. My favorite song of theirs is Helplessly Hoping. You owe it to yourself to react to the studio version of that song!
thanks for reaction and the suggestion. Would not have seen this live version (just like high hopes yesterday). Familiar with studio albums - brought in younger days. Those with the best of taste should find Polo . Wait till you hear " Dogs " - Pink Floyd
@0:27 Part II lol. Great workout tunes for "Weirdo's". James Brown: 1981 Live at North Sea Jazz Netherlands (my homecountry, but nevermind) Cheers! 😉Complete James brown 1981 concert: includes "Kool & The Gang - Celebration" James and his brand new bag..entering stage @34:30 though enjoy! My favourite part Unleash the beast from @42:55 Old school, but not..."Everybody feel good?..Hit Me!" Enjoy Complete concert: th-cam.com/video/m-Oq54jFAAs/w-d-xo.html
Yes killer melody and the second solo is hair raising but as others have stated his backing singer's on about 4 songs are david crosby and grahan nash ,who are very famous in there own right , mr nash wrote with joni mitchell "Our House'...david grew up on 3 part harmonies, hes states singing is as important to him as his guitar playing .
"The Twins"! Haha bro,... that's David Crosby and Graham Nash from the band "Crosby, Stills, Nash and, (sometimes), Young", (Neil Young), all legends in their own right. One of the best, maybe THE best, Acoustic Rock band from the 1970s. They were in the same type genre as "Simon and Garfunkel", James Taylor, "America" and many others too, it used to be called "Acoustic Rock". All great singers that harmonized beautifully, CSNY and "Simon and Garfunkel" were the Giants of Acoustic Rock back in the day!
I'm one of those strange guys who doesn't listen to any type of music or podcasts while working out with weights at the gym - it's simply a complete distraction and I can't focus properly or keep any type of mind/muscle connection during the exercise while listening to music! I also don't carry my cell phone on me and gawk at it between sets! Trust me, your life won't come to an end if you put your phone down for an hour and actually focus on your workout... ;-)
When I am in the gym, I listen to Anthrax… or shout out to Biohazard, I haven’t been in the gym in a while. I mean, unless you’re Neo from the Matrix, you must be on a whole different level to listen to slow music.
When I workout, I put my noise-cancelling earbuds in and listen to nothing. If the gym is busy/loud, I listen to white noise to further drown out the distractions.
You know you are a God when you have Davis Crosby and Graham Nash as your backup singers.
yeah... pretty high up in the atmosphere :)
RIP David Crosby 🎶♥️
Hell yes ❤
Yes, rip David
💯

You are sooo fortunate. Seeing any show at Royal Albert Hall is on my bucket list but this show would have been an absolute dream ❤️ ❤

I can't imagine to this day how did they perform with David in chorous... This legend in chorous...
All this I would agree with but with one addition. I think he has a wonderful voice as well. But I guess when you can play guitar like that, well you know hahaha

Dude! David effing Gilmore! You are about to leave Earth 💜
It is great to see 3 prominent performers from the 1960s performing together decades later. David Crosby & Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, and Nash) were masters at harmonizing.
Yes. Yes they were (are)
As a guitarist I have always been in awe of David's ability to convey feeling through slow solos. And the bending of the string is a mastery I am struggling to think of anybody close to his ability.
David Gilmour is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to guitar playing. Just love him. Thanks Polo.

David Gilmour.RAISE MY RENT.
That song is a whole other level. Heard it for the first time last month and I was blown away.
One of my favorites from Solo Gilmore, add in Crosby & Nash, and it's even better. Thanks, Polo.
Dude, you got two members of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Those guys were monster famous before Gilmore was ever on the music scene. Never knew they collaborated on anything like this.
David and Graham toured with David in Europe. There's a documentary about it also.
David first appeared in Pink Floyd in 1968 on A Saucerful of Secrets, so not too far away from CSNY really.
I love watching David Crosby watch David Gilmour play in this video.
Love your Pink Floyd / DG reactions - great to see love and appreciation for David Gilmour
David Crosby and Graham Nash on backing vocals. Brilliant.
This whole album is like a battle of wine….the older David Gilmour. It just keeps getting.
The “twins” are David Crosby and Graham Nash, from legendary folk rock group Crosby, Stills & Nash. Yeah, they sound good for a reason. 😂
Oh shit! That’s Crosby and Nash. Wow. I guess I missed that show. Damn.
He and his wife’s lyrics paint an amazing picture! And Dave’s solos paint another (always fitting) picture!

You might enjoy the movie Pink Floyd live at Pompeii. Something I discovered later in life.
Gilmour is misspelled in your title 😕
David is amazing, Murder has a epic fretless bass solo. Cruise is another great song . Thank you Polo
I remember when this record came out. I listened to it all through spring break.
Theres No Way Out Of Here is a single from a solo album of Davids. Its well worth listen.
Any song from the Division Bell is peak Gilmour.
His solos on Poles Apart, Marooned, Great Day for Freedom…

For Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Almost Cut My Hair, Deja Vu and Wooden Ships are all incredible. Ohio and Woodstock too.
David's guitar playing has such emotional depth!
Amazing song. I’ve been listening to that album since it came out. This song and The Blue are on my sleep list every single night.

You will ride your Bicycle out of your mind when you listen to this song.🎸🎸🎶🎶🎵🎵✌
Polo this song and sound will grow on you and every time you hear it, it will be better, enjoy for the next 20 years.
I'm so happy and impressed that you did this song!! The whole album is incredible but somehow doesn't seem to be really well known, except by the true fans 😊
Often, I listen to Eartha Kitt when I work out, and I was managing a 24 Fitness club and always listened to music when I lifted.
Man the amount of comments misspelling David’s name because the reactor misspelled it is funny 😂
Crosby and Nash are icons themselves and now they have to realize they experienced GREATNESS ha ha
Dude, doing deep dives on bands like Tool & Pink Floyd is anything but crazy!! Looking forward to more Pink Floyd, you won't be disappointed!! And we'll enjoy the ride!!
edit your title to Gilmour
I have this concert on Blu-ray, but I haven’t watched it in awhile. I actually forgot how great this version of this song is. It’s truly incredible
Very good song, like many others that David Gilmore has come out with. Thank you for the video reaction to this song
I liked his song 'The A Breath' off of this same solo album. Also footage from his 'live In Gdansk concert...

Wow! I was hearing this for the first time myself. So good!!! Im gonna add this one to my list as well. ❤❤❤
Polo, I subscribed. How do I message you. Reactions/requests and what not. Thanks
FYI the other solo guitar player is Phil Manzanera from the band Roxy Music which is an amazing band you should give a listen to.
Want to thank you Polo for bringing this video to my attention. I love these guys.
There's a reason Paul McCartney hired David Gilmour to play in ''No more Lonely nights''
Love to see you discover British greats from 40 odd years ago- Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, David Gilmore. Brian May ...
David Gilmore has always been great at getting every last drop out of every note
I love David's solo band a lot and all of his solo work.
Uptempo rock for me, particularly for weight lifting. Prog rock (Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis) for distance running. This song would make a playlist for running-contemplative and flowing.
I love the album and this live version with Nash and Crosby is just superb. Thanks.
You'll soon need a Pink Floyd playlist and then you'll have to move this into it. Trust me.
I was fortunate enough to see him with Pink Floyd in the late 80s. Front row center stage, best concert i ever went to
Indeed. Saw him twice during his About Face tour in 1984 at smaller, acoustically excellent venues. Been to countless concerts over the years and those were two of the best ever.
Look for a group under the name of "Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young", this armonies are Crosby & Nash, from that group!!

Love the harmonies.
He comes up with melody humming it to his wife she writes the lyrics. She wrote the lyrics on the last floyd album
If and when I used to work out, 1992-era hard UK “rave” techno did it for me.
When I exercise or workout I mainly listen to Christian music but lately after losing my earbuds I've haven't listened to any music but I just focus or count
Not sure if you've done it yet but "on the turning away" Live from Delicate Sound of Thunder is amazing the Solo is top notch
I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, but I have never been hooked by Dave's solo music.
Good grief. "The twins" happen to be the now late David Cosby and Graham Nash from Crosby, Sills, Nash & Young!!

Bumping Mics with Jeff Ross and Dave Atell
David Gilmour has written all of the music on his 4 solo albums, as well as a fairly large portion of Pink Floyd's catalogue, but never wrote a lot of the lyrics (his only weakness). David's wife Polly has written most of the lyrics for him beginning with Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" album as well as his last 2 solo albums.
'the twins" are david cosby and I believe Nash from cosby stills, nash and young. surprised to see them there
You should check out David Gilmour live at Pompeii doing the Floyd song "Run Like Hell".
His wife Polly Sampson writes the lyrics, and she also wrote the lyrics to the last Pink Floyd album without credit.

Pink Floyd has like 16 releases. David didn't join the band until their 2nd release.
thanks for reaction and the suggestion. Would not have seen this live version (just like high hopes yesterday). Familiar with studio albums - brought in younger days. Those with the best of taste should find Polo . Wait till you hear " Dogs " - Pink Floyd

Polo, you gotta check out Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The 2 back up singers are David Crosby and Graham Nash.
At first I thought you were reacting to Jon Gailmore, and I got very excited! I haven't seen anyone react to him yet.
Trust me, your life won't come to an end if you put your phone down for an hour and actually focus on your workout... ;-)
Side note…His wife bought that guitar sling for his birthday, and was previously owned by Jimi Hendrix
When I am in the gym, I listen to Anthrax… or shout out to Biohazard, I haven’t been in the gym in a while. I mean, unless you’re Neo from the Matrix, you must be on a whole different level to listen to slow music.
That's David Crosby & Grahem Nash singing harmony.
I recommend Kyuss Gardenia. Tuned down, super groove. You won't be disappointed
Yeah check out Crosby and Nash - Carry on ..... Also check out Deja vu.
David Crosby and graham Nash from Crosby Stills and Nash.
Gilmour is the GOAT
Those twins as you call them, are David Crosby and Steven Stills. Yes, that's right. Look up that band.
When I workout, I put my noise-cancelling earbuds in and listen to nothing. If the gym is busy/loud, I listen to white noise to further drown out the distractions.
David Gilmour - Fat Old Sun from Remember that night for a different kind of epic solo....
