On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Correction: A-4 has a roll rate of 720 degrees per second or two rolls a second. This is superior to the Tomcat. Use this advantage.
Correct I do mention that in the video that’s how I avoid his nose for so long.
How do you use a roll rate advantage against a plane that has a turn rate advantage? Do you go into a rolling scissors or something?

The Navy agressors used the A-4 Super Fox back in the day, that was one mean little SOB. Bigger engine, much better performance than what this fight demostrated. Though you did very well...slow fight, a rolling scissor is a death trap for an F-14.
The design language of the F-14 is so cool and yet so bizarre. It doesn't even look like a fighter jet, it looks like a muscle car with wings and missiles.
When the wings are swept back its a delta with two engines and two vertical stabilizers.
@@doc7000 Not a delta, delta indicates a sharp leading edge, along with other methods to keep a vortex above each wing (the uneven surface of an F-14 makes vortices hard to stay for long enough to provide benefit)
delta wings are triangle shaped wings, but triangle shaped wings are not always delta wings
the fact that the A4 has the brazilian navy camo makes this video 2 times better to me

Saw the Blue Angels flying A-4s circa 1980. Maybe no match for Tomcats, but they were agile beasts that were a delight to watch.
Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like the A4 sounds a lot like a Harrier. It'd be interesting to see those two in a match.
I'm still waiting to see the BVR of G.S. in the F14 (with the Phoenix) vs the F22 (stealth)... Could the F14 get an early lock on the F22 and effectively shoot it down?
It's Tomcat radar, even if he can't get a lock he should at least be able to give the F-22 pilot cancer.
GS made a video on these 2 as Malvinas/Falklands scenario, but he did it on the Harrier side... i would love to see him in the A4

The only difference between the F-22 vs Su-27 video and a possible F-22 vs F-14 fight is that jester would see the F-22 when he looks back so he'll live for a few more seconds/be able to jink a bit more before dying to an AIM-9X
the pheonix in dcs cant hit shit, literally missed every shot so the raptor wouldn't even be bothered
Hey Growling I also enjoy the one circle the most. You should fly FW-190s more. They are great in tight one circle engagements. I loved your IL-2 series.
Jester gets the kill schooling rookies at Mira Mar (i think thats how its spelt, top gun school in the first film) you should have told the F14 his deck was 2000 ft, just to see how much of a disadvantage that would be, i remember Maverick& Goose only got the win against Jester because he went under the 2000 ft false deck rule!! Micheal Ironside was one of my favorite actors as a kid, he always played the tough guy who everyone respected and no one wanted to mess with, he was great in that alien tv series called V, i remember being scared to death of that programme, i was about 8ish, the reality of it actually being a plausible scenario was terrifying, it still is something that could very well happen to our planet, this is why evil aliens and sci fi has always been my favorite genre, i love films like Independence day, i really liked the sequel, cant wait for the 3rd one, i love all the Aliens films as well as Predator and even the RVP collaboration between the 2, as long as they have good actors and healthy budget and the best CGI available i will keep on watching and loving those franchise. Ive waffled on!!!!!

Not sure whether it's been suggested before but is it possible to do a sort of double "Bandit Unknown"? As in both sides pick whichever aircraft they want to go up against one another... would be cool to see that adaptation of strategy on both sides going into a fight, and maybe some interesting combinations.

I see A-4 and F-14 and like without watching I am a simple man and these two jets are along my favourites... thank you for a great video. With regards to the Topgun A-4's they where F models with more power and stripped of hump guns and anything that was not required to make them true hotrods...
i live in south georgia about 20 miles from moody afb. this morning 2 a-10's flew over my house at treetop level. i told my wife that those were a-10 warthogs and no enemy ever wants to here that sound. she said how do you know that? because of the mouth around the 30 mm cannons. again, how do you know that? because i watch the coolist shit on you-tube. love the feed man. being able to identify the a10's was because of this channel. that was an awesome feeling.

I just rewatched Top Gun for the umpteenth time again this morning. What a timely yt vid.
My Late Father paid the Ultimate Sacrifice trying to save his squadron's CO's life and unfortunately they were never seen again while flying A-4s with VA-86 off the USS Independence on Jan 7th 1961.
I just want to spit it out now that it seems right. The A-4 is one of the prettiest and adorable planes I’ve ever seen. It just looks so well balanced unlike thing like the frog foot and other oddities of that small strike class.

I wonder why the Navy never used the Tomcat for their Blue Angel flight team? They used the A-4, then jumped straight to the current F/A-18, Tomcat’s would’ve been AMAZING to hear and see!

Size. I spent four years on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier (green shirt, waist cats). The Tomcat was waaaay too big for that type of close-in group exhibition flying. People don’t realize just how big they are until they are standing next to one. In fact, they were the largest fighters to ever fly off the deck of a carrier.

Singapore bought the Blue Angel A-4s and put the F-18 engines in them. They bent a few wing spars but it would be fun to see you take on the 14 with one.
Strictly speaking, not the Blue Angel A-4s, they used the A-4F version while Singapore had a mix of A-4Bs and A-4Cs that got the F404 re-engine. Post upgrade they were very similar to the NZ Kahus except for the lack of a multimode radar like the APG-66.
So I wonder how the NZ Kahus would compare to the F-14 then.

The New Zealand A-4K (A4 with F16ish avionics) when fighting to their strengths they could beat Australian legacy Hornets.
Is that the "stooge around in the weeds at 50ft until the F-18 appears above you and then pull up vertically and shoot it" tactics? I know from a first hand observation the later RNZAF A4K camouflage green was pretty good and they were very hard to spot by eye against the ground but does that tactic work against a lookdown radar?
So ive never played DCS, im a war thunder air rb player with no joystick or vr. But i love your channel, i would love to get into DCS one of these days. Good fights 👍

Wich would you say is better? Vr setup or ultrawide monitor + head tracking? i've got a vr setup but after an hour or so it's too hot/sweaty. I've got amazing hardware but i don't know if i want to spend the extra for the headtracking.
Quite the David and Goliath match up for this one. Does DCS included the F-4 Phantom II? If so perhaps we could get a match or two with it?

Which A-4 variant is that? With the dorsal hump, it's got to be at least an E, and the straight refueling probe means it's not an F or M.
You answered your question yourself, it a A-4E
Some F's did have straight probes too, but this one is an E.
