Buddy could be so gracious when we was around young talent, when he didn't have to be the star. I didn't know Freddy played drums--and it was a relief that he could play. This is a great post. Mike Douglas should not be forgotten for being the great talk show host he was, and how he took risks. Hard to believe stuff like this was on afternoon TV for years in the 60s and 70s. Thanks for the post!

It just dawned on me watching this that Buddy would have been great sitting in for Johnny Carson when he wasn't around because he's just so gracious when he wants to be and tough when he needs to be, but always such a great sense of humor. Wonderful interaction between him and Freddie! Great post!

I was in the fifth grade when the horrible news about Freddie was on the news. All these years later, I still mourn the loss of this talented man.

Something magical and surreal seeing the fadeout with Buddy Rich and Freddie Prinze "jamming" on the drums.

Michele, I take it that was you up there with Cathy...? You guys sounded great together and I actually like the second song you did it was really nice and you harmonized really well together. Too bad you didn't do more pop tunes with maybe you guys sharing the solo Spotlight sort of like three dog night did only a female version I think you would have really took off if you would have each stepped up and did a little solo bit between the four of you. Did you ever think of rejoining the group? Anyways just a big fan of Buddy's and wanted to give you a plug here. Your father was awesome and I really enjoyed when he was showcased on the BBC with Buddy and your father's band member Annie in 1969 which I'm sure you have seen of course. I think you guys could have really took off with the right songs and arrangements. Did your group ever write any of your own material? Bob M.

@@polara01 Hello! Thanks for your comment. No, we didn't stay together all that long. So, no original material as a group. I do a lot of original material now, though. My last CD, called Another Side, is all originals. The same label, Cristal Records, also put out my tribute to Ella, called A Little Bit Of Ella. Check those out. Also, I have a video out from Another Side called Il Y A Des Cons Partout. My first song written in French! (I'm living in France.) And no, I haven't seen the video you're talking about with Buddy and dad on the BBC. Do you have the link? I'd love to see it. Thanks again!

@@michelehendricks5507 Michele, thank you for your kind response and I am looking forward to checking out your tribute to Ella. Here is the link to the concert. Your dad and Annie come in around 15 minutes into the concert (after the "bolero") but I would watch it from the beginning to get the feel and context by which Buddy introduces them as a surprise guest (it's really cool) and they perform one of the numbers they were currently working on together with the band and it is very exciting hope you enjoy it! This is great. Thanks for posting this. I wish there was more vids of Buddy Rich in his prime. His talents are unparalleled.
Do you by any chance have the full audio or video of BR with Jo Jones as special guest from Nice in 1978? About 3 min opening intro is posted then gets cut off.

Such a different era from today - a little more innocent and humanly connected. Nice how Buddy was encouraging interracial harmony by playing with those incredibly talented kids from the South Bronx, respecting their drum heritage and laying out (not playing) when they really got cooking, since he worked with a different clave and knew it. And his daughter, in that lovely vocal group featuring all the colors of the rainbow. It seems like things have reverted to more segregation again now, and the racist in the White House isn’t helping matters any. BR Forever.

yes, the talent of black and brown people could not be denied and now it has supplanted and surpassed the talents of white people. This is true of entertainment and sports

2:38 It's funny he complimented he them by saying said "he hates them both." Such an old experession never dies, like "she's so pretty, don't you just hate her?" But he was a prodigy himself.
