Vegetable oils are a great source of vitamin e ;) so are nuts, seeds, greens like spinach and broccoli, just eat your whole plant foods for crying out loud!
@@VeganLinked Inb4 someone yells at you saying "SEED OILS CLOG ARTERIES, THEY'RE POISON" despite no evidence for that. They are the most calorie dense thing in the world though and whole nuts and seeds are stil better
@@keepcalmandletmehelpyou1565 I eat an pretty decent whole food vegan diet. It's easy to not get too many calories because the bulk of what I eat doesn't have a lot of fat unless I add it. So, adding a nice cold press olive or canola oil to a nice soup, salad, whatever is just going to deliver a nice polyphenol and essential fatty acid load while helping absorb fat soluble nutrients in my kale, lentils, whatever... Usually something healthy like nuts, seeds, oils, avocado, coconut, etc... only becomes in the context of an unhealthy diet and unhealthy person. It wasn't the healthy food or ingredient, it was the other things. The problem is, people don't know what real food is, how to eat, and what else to do with their lives lol.
There are some people who still get heart attacks from consuming a plant based diet high in plant sterols and plant stanols, it's called Sitosterolemia and it's more common than people think. Dr. Fred Kummerow knew all about fats and lipids but people who had no Ph.D and no credentials and no qualifications in nutritional biochemistry such as Bart Kay, Dr. Atkins, Pritikin, McDougall, Ornish, Fuhrman and Esselstyn had no clue about anything for over half a century and now they don't have the guts to admit they were wrong.
@keepcalmandletmehelpyou1565 actually there's loads of evidence. Saturated fat is a bridging molecule, it over comes the zeta potential which has to do with unpaired electrons in the outer shell of red blood cells. When electrons in the outer shell are unpaired, known as free radicals, they steal from nearby cells. Seed oils and Saturated fat both work similarly. So basically oil and/or fat sticks red blood cells together because overcoming the zeta potential is overcoming the negative electrical charge that keeps red blood cells repelling each other, and causes them to bond which makes the blood cells too big to fit through the arteries (its called a rouleaux formation) hence the clogged arteries which causes both cancer and atherosclerosis. Never mind. Clearly there's no evidence at all.
C’mon Dr Greger - you can do better than this. You start your video by discussing how there are different forms of vitamin E - then go on to show study after study about the disappointing, inconclusive effects of the tocopherol form - which is true - but don’t mention the tocotrienol form once. Studies on vitamins obviously don’t have the money behind them that medications do, so we have to deal with smaller sample sizes, etc - but most of what I’ve seen on toctrienols has been very encouraging.
You make an excellent point! The considerable difference between tocopherols and tocotrienols means that studies on Vitamin E must be analyzed based on their relative concentrations instead of lumping all the studies together.
The problem with all of the studies cited is that they used only the alpha tocopherol form of Vitamin E, and they used the synthetic form. And supplementing with only the alpha tocopherol form can potentially be harmful, because it can interfere with the beneficial activity of other forms of Vitamin E, such as gamma tocopherol. That was reported by the Life Extension Foundation (LEF) many years ago. Also, some people (such as cardiologist Dr. Steven Sinatra) have said that in order for Vitamin E to be effective, it has to be be taken with selenium.
I recall watching a TH-cam video on supplements for longevity and a vitamin E study was mentioned that suggested all cause mortality was higher until about the age of 70 at which point E seemed to improve all cause mortality. I wish I could cite the source details but it’s worth researching more.
Sunflower seeds are the absolute highest source, but they also have cadmium. Almonds are next up. I tend to eat sunflower seeds because they are cheap and the absolute highest source for vitamin E. So, i don't need to consume large amounts of them. Apparently, US sourced seeds are highest in cadmium, mine come from Europe.
Vitamin E has shown to ameliorate respiratory stress. Sounds like Greger is cherry picking again which is very dangerous .... potentially adding to the confusion. Vitamin E recharges ascorbate. Short term pulses. Greger is being 1 dimensional
So......I guess thats a NO on taking Vitamin E supplements to combat cancer, improve immunity or extend longevity then.....unless you are a light smoker LOL! .......Anyway, I'm sure vitamin E supplements must be good for something?? Topical applications???
So, I read in the select trial that they were taking 400 IU of synthetic vitamin E daily which around 1200% of the rda. This seems to just mean people shouldn't supplement excess vitamin e. That being said, I would be interested to know if it's alright because I don't supplement it, but I do often have IQ bars -- which I really like -- and they have 100% of the rda. I haven't see any evidence there's anything associated with taking 100% of the rda -- though I'd be interested to know if anyone knows more about that.
I'd say to just get what your body needs because we need it everyday. But just the natural one and the 100% of the RDA. Supplements almost always have like 1000% more.
@@kevchangu Yeah, well, of course that's ideal. But vegan foods and most foods in general including bread and such have added vitamins. I don't think it's generally a big deal in minimal amounts, but yeah -- I'd prefer to get less synthetic vitamin e -- which iq bars have 100% of. They also are also really good, convenient, and have lions mane in minimal amounts too which is beneficial. I wouldn't get concerned about 100% of the rda, but I'd be open to seeing any evidence of if more moderate amounts were relatively healthy.
@@Sven_E07 Yeah, well synthetic vitamins are added to most foods so they're hard to avoid. Secondly, that's not what it means. In terms of most of the overall evidence, synthetic vitamins are fine, beneficial, and convenient in most cases. It's only certain ones like vitamin a and/or high doses of vitamin e that seem to be an issue.

And also he didn’t differentiated between weather they were taking synthetic dL-tocopherol vs Natural form D alpha tocopherol of vitamin E!
The best vitamin e is tocotrienol from anatto plant
Sunflower seeds, problem solved

So does this mean multivitamins are reducing our overall health?
I'm guessing that's a yes

Would you make a video about PCOS and supplements, that help? I'm interested in woman's health.
