- This is an obscure song from the period when the band recorded 'The Cult' album in 1994. It is an unfinished rough mix that never made it onto the final album but is notable for the fact that as well as Billy on guitar it also features his long term pal Johnny Marr from The Smiths.
It was released as part of the now deleted RARE CULT box set which came out in 2000. These are Billy's comments from the booklet that accompanied the box set;
BD: "People forget I wrote my first ever songs with Morrissey back in Manchester in the Seventies. And I'd known Johnny since I was 13. He used to come and see my school band, then he took my place when I left -- and then Andy Rourke joined. So 'North' was us celebrating, really, two blokes from the same estate having made it. Like, look at us now! We knew it wouldn't make the LP, but it was fun, with jokey lyrics about the north of England and I'm glad it's going to see the light of day."
