(Context: The tweet I'm quoting was a response to someone talking about the "Lithium Coup" in Bolivia in 2019, a coup on the president that many - apparently Musk at the time, too - attributed to the U.S.. The theorized main goal of the coup was getting cheaper labour for lithium production, a main component of Teslas. Musk deleted the tweet, but it's well documented)
He is doing this here for the same reason, he wants the lithium mines in Amazon forest, but the only way he will get acess to it is by helping a military dictatorship coup from bolsonaristas.
I'm brazilian, and I can tell that the orders were unlawful, therefore X cannot comply with them per US law that forbids a US based company of committing a crime in a foreign country. The order were unlawful in several aspects, but the most blatant is the fact that brazilian law forbids preemptive censorship, meaning it forbids profile removal, only contents (posts) can be removed through a court order, the law is very clear about that (refer to internet civil act). Also, brazilian congressmen have immunity against any type of censorship (refer to brazilian constitution), and the laws ordered the removal of profiles of brazilian congressmen. There are several other laws broken in this whole mess, but those are the most important in my view and most experts. Moraes' is acting outside the law, as criminal, and has the support of almost all supreme court ministers, and he and the court has been acting like that since 2016 at Dilma's (Lula's successor) impeachment. The brazilian supreme court has a closed inquiry (meaning a hidden prosecution that nobody has access to) that is completely illegal as the court cannot open an inquiry that does not treat crimes that happened inside the court, that it uses to censor and jail political opponents, people have been killed in jail without even knowing why they were there because they or their defense has no access to the process, including a journalist, this inquiry is called 'inquérito do fim do mundo' or 'inquiry of the end of the world'.

I literally would get on twitter once every few months to comment on some D&D/Critical Role related stuff, I'll be totally fine without it and this years election will be even better without it too
This is a very summarized version of what happened, the real reason x was banned is because they withdrew their legal representation which means they wouldn't need to follow the laws of our country. a funny thing is that on the same day x was banned production in our country grew by 1%.

the fine for accessing through a vpn will probably only be enforced as an extra charge on people using it to do any illegal stuff which prompts the court or other people for prosecution, the court has no way to track that at large
To be honest, I think it's very funny. Well, Elon Musk didn't respect the law in Brazil, then Twitter (or X) was banned. When I found out, I just installed Blue Sky, you know... even the name is better hahah
7 accounts are officially worth a Brazilian [user base]? Oof, sorry guys. That was a stretch. Edit to clarify, the stretch was my joke that I came up with before the trolly problem comment in the video. I was apologizing for myself, not the wonderful writer of this show
There's more: He also refused to appoint a legal representative, and without a legal representative, if someone posts a pornographic photo of a child there is no way to remove it, as there is no one to answer for the crimes committed within X in Brazil. And this is with any social network here, even this has happened before, which shows that it is not persecution of Twitter in any way, it is simply the supreme court enforcing the law
Brazilian gen Y, here i had my Twitter account for 7 years, i feel like if the fandoms that i'm into moved to Bluesky i would be fine, so yeah i'm still expecting to come back since i was looking at making my way of income with it as well
As a brazilian, I am very happy with the Twitter Ban. Disseminating fake news from far right accounts is not free speech, and it actually hurt our already fragile and relatively new democracy. Also, I think the movie Brazil isnt set in Brazil, it has its name because the song Aquarela do Brasil plays throughout the movie.
Dude stop spreding desinformation about this. The main reason se supreme court banned twiter is that the company refused to have legal representative on brazil, so even if laws were being broken like... spreding ch1ld pxrn on the site we could't open a legal process. Every single company needs to abide by this simple request and ellon refused. Also the fine is not 8 million is 50 thousand, that is still a lot but how cares about using a VPN for Twitter we have 1 million things better to do with a VPN.
Hi, I'm from Brazil, I just wanted to correct a mistake you said Anyone using a VPN would be fined $8,000, which converted to R$50,000 (Brazilian currency) It's not 1 million reais, we're not that broke lol And you could get fined if you used a VPN, but there's no way for them to know that someone used a VPN, and today Twitter started working again, because Twitter changed its IP to Cloud Flare. If Brazil bans cloud flare, we would lose 70% of our websites, in addition to the official government website that also uses the cloud flare IP. But of course they will do something to ban Twitter again, but now there is time to notify contacts that they will change platforms.
Honestly bluesky is completely fine after you get the algorithm tuned, i bet it will be the better option. i just can't see long time Twitter users as myself going to fckng threads

Haha great video 😄 I'm from Brazil, and there's a little something else you might have missed in the story: that every foreign company must have a legal representative in the country - which Twitter refused to appoint. THAT was the final straw.
As a Brazilian, I must say it took too long for the ban to be placed because our laws give chance after chance for X to obey the laws. Our supreme court just wanted the ban of 7 accounts that were breaking the laws about fake news, a legal representation inside the country, and that X obey Brazil's laws. If you have business in a country, you must obey its laws.
which platform is the most financially beneficial for you to have us watch scroll deep on? i find myself switching between platforms just completely mindlessly. whichever platform i notice a new episode on first is where i watch it. which one is best for you?
I follow many fan accounts managed by brazilians (amazing fandom, very dedicated) and most tweets were like 6:05 also yes there are many gen z people using twitter but as I said it's mostly because fandom communities are easy to form there compared to other social platforms. I miss my brazilian fan accounts, feels so empty without them.
Just trying to add to the explanation: 1. The Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) ordered the suspension of the accounts used to promote and incite the attempted coup d'état of January 8, 2023. 2. Xwitter refused to ban the accounts, which resulted in daily fines for the company until it complied with the court orders. 3. The STF threatened Xwitter's legal representation in Brazil with legal consequences, possibly imprisonment if they did not comply with the court order. 4. Xwitter dissolved its legal representation in Brazil. 5. The STF warned Xwitter that they had 24 hours to appoint another legal representation in Brazil or the service would be banned from operating in Brazil. 6. Xwitter refused to appoint another legal representation in Brazil. (This was the last straw.) 7. The STF banned Xwitter in Brazil.
Let's see how long this ban will last. A number of countries have suspended twitter only to allow it at a later date. Its only a handful of countries that have a permanent ban
From a Bloomberg article _“Even if we look at international standards of freedom of expression, blocking an entire platform is seen as a drastic measure,” said Veridiana Alimonti, a Brazil-based expert with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. “It’s problematic when it involves platforms that host both legal and illegal speech.”_

I’m brazillian and I was sad with the ban but I agree with it. Musk can be pro freedom of speech but u can’t ignore a nation’s law and expect no punishment, and even the “opinions” of people must be modderated since nowdays there are a lot o hate speech been spreed as opinions .
The biggest proof of that is X itself, with Twitter it was bad, but with X you'd have access to violent things, we.ird ppl commenting sus things, fake news all over that place, ppl straight up calling people names for nothing! I had to delete my account as well!
Elon actually didn't follow as Alexandre asked because the banning did not not follow Brazilian laws, so it was an unlawful request. I'm Brazilian by the way
Same. Made precisely one account many years (didn't delete It, just left It there) and used only once (I think It was for a creator here on TH-cam, can't really remember the reason). I've been there other times, but those were for reading some posts/tweets of a guy making fact checks of the War on Gaza after I've read an article about him on BBC and that was without an account.

Elon "We will coup whoever we want! Deal with it." Musk was always far right, but people didn't know bc they weren't forced to read his tweets.
Brazilians are migrating to bluesky, let's talk to them
I wish my country would do the same
I'm brazilian, and I can tell that the orders were unlawful, therefore X cannot comply with them per US law that forbids a US based company of committing a crime in a foreign country. The brazilian supreme court has a closed inquiry (meaning a hidden prosecution that nobody has access to) that is completely illegal as the court cannot open an inquiry that does not treat crimes that happened inside the court, that it uses to censor and jail political opponents, people have been killed in jail without even knowing why they were there because they or their defense has no access to the process, including a journalist, this inquiry is called 'inquérito do fim do mundo' or 'inquiry of the end of the world'.

im an older-ish gen z from Brazil, I have twitter since I was 11 (not supposed to) and was very much on Stan Culture. When I grew out of that when I was like 16/17, I just kept my account cuz I have follows from a few artists that I got back on those fandom days (some of the Fifth Harmony girls, Justin Bieber and other people I don't remember that are not famous anymore).
Thank you for stating the real facts. Only one mistake, it was actually 1.4%

Should we allow people to spread lies and hate on the internet and do nothing about because of "freedom of expression?" Its even worst when you know that amoung that seven accounts was military dictatorship coup pleople and one child predator.
There's more: He also refused to appoint a legal representative, and without a legal representative, if someone posts a pornographic photo of a child there is no way to remove it, as there is no one to answer for the crimes committed within X in Brazil. Tumblr is just the extreme left wing version of Twitter. It's a cesspool.
As a brazilian, please stop shacking the phone, I need to reed a tweet for my abstinence 😔

Anyone using a VPN would be fined $8,000, which converted to R$50,000 (Brazilian currency)
It's not 1 million reais, we're not that broke lol
And you could get fined if you used a VPN, but there's no way for them to know that someone used a VPN, and today Twitter started working again, because Twitter changed its IP to Cloud Flare.
If Brazil bans cloud flare, we would lose 70% of our websites, in addition to the official government website that also uses the cloud flare IP.
But of course they will do something to ban Twitter again, but now there is time to notify contacts that they will change platforms.

Just trying to add to the explanation:
(This was the last straw.)
7. The STF banned Xwitter in Brazil.
Let's see how long this ban will last. A number of countries have suspended twitter only to allow it at a later date. Its only a handful of countries that have a permanent ban
