    Each salamander lives in it's own habitat. They DO NOT live together. I realized that I might not have been clear on that. Sorry!

      Only the same species should live together. 2 axolotls for example, etc. But 1 salamander is happy all by it's own. And the most common pet salamanders are mole salamanders (tiger, spotted, marbled, axolotls, etc).

    I'm raising a few Jefferson Salamander larvae right now. They were laid in a small vernal pool in the Beginning of January I brought them inside before the pond froze solid. They are doing pretty good. hopefully, they will make it.

    Any idea what to feed a very small marbled salamander? I'm thinking of adopting one, but they're tiny. I found about 9 of them in my garage the other night, and very gently moved them outside, but next time it rains, I might keep one. But they're only about 1.5" long and I want to make sure I know what to feed them.

    for my spotty it very hard to hand feed. She will sometimes take food from my hand, but they certainly aren't as voracious eaters as a tiger sally . It much easier to just let the crickets roam and she will strike

    A good example of how different set ups work in different climates. I live in Houston, on the other side of the state, and a set up like that would mold here in three days (know this from experience when I used damp eco earth in a setup). On the revers side though, I have a snake that needs 60 percent humidity, and I literally have to do nothing to maintain humidity. That is just my apartment. Haha. Cute salamanders.

    • @HappyTailsAnimals
      @HappyTailsAnimals  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol yeah I remember mold being a problem when I lived in San Antonio, I prefer having to deal with dust instead. It is interesting seeing care based on the climate, I have never gotten a pet that needed humidity to be higher than 65% because it's way too hard to meet that. 😄

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HappyTailsAnimals The reverse is something I have to consider when getting reptile pets. Can they handle a moderately high humidity at all times? It almost kept me from getting My Kenyan Sand Boas, but I found some credible sources stating their humidity tolerance. (They are 2 years old now and very healthy)

    • @HappyTailsAnimals
      @HappyTailsAnimals  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do they do with humidity? I've had trouble with my sand boa eating and I've been wondering if the humidity is too low

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HappyTailsAnimals They have a very large natural habitat, with a wide range of low and higher humidity. So humidity doesn't seem to be as big of an issue one way or the other. One of mine (I have two) had problems eating, and would only take a meal every three weeks. Her problem was that she was too scared to move around her enclosure freely (she is very timid). So she wasn't using her hot spot, which meant lower appetite. I put a black utensil holder (like for knives) over her hot side as a hide, so she would have a place of absolute darkness. And I covered the bottom of her tank with black paper, covering the substrate layer. IT WORKED. She still loves that hide, even though she is too large for it.

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HappyTailsAnimals Something else I would try is upping the hot spot. 90 degrees like most care guides say is good, 95 is better.

    What tank size is recommended for spotted and marbled salamanders? The Internet has told me a 10 gallon minimum but I feel like they’re a bit too big for a 10 gallon and I’d feel bad having them in it

    • @gooseberries0
      @gooseberries0 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a single adult spotted salamander which I have raised in a 30 gallon, moved it to a 40 gallon a moth ago and I think he's doing great. As they say, the bigger the better and this is no exception! They don't have trouble finding food if you leave a few roach or crickets inside the setup. So if its a baby or juvenile 30 gallon and make sure it's wider not higher then adult is 40 gallon. Hope this helped!

My family has 2 dogs, 2 cats, a 75 gallon fish tank,8 chickens, and 5 rats. I take care of the rats by myself, and help with the others too. Qhat do you reccomend? I like hamsters, toirteses(idk how ti spell it), birds,etc. I love you so much. When I grow up I WILL become a vet. (Sadly snak3s are a no. My dad is steongly against them.
