"Your budget or willingness to spend will give out before you maximise the number of shrimp you can keep in a tank." I laughed when you said that because it is so true. I have a dozen 20L tanks with a few thousand dollars worth of retail price shrimp in each tank but I only spent about a hundred on each to start.

Got two 2 gallons as breeding tanks with 50+ shrimp in each going crazy at it, got floating plants in those tanks but I think the bioload is soo small that my floating plants are having nutrient deficiencies that I had to at least add a few drops of fertilizer per week to keep them plants healthy. Also, my tank's temperature swings from 80 at night to 90 at noon and they are still thriving. All of my shrimp are neos and the floating plants I use are mixed, duckweed, salvinia and red root floaters.

I have two jar-aquariums with a bubble stone in each and live plants, they’re less than a gallon each, and I use a plant heat mat to keep the warmth consistent, and have 6 shrimp in each, and at the moment it’s perfect!

Seriously…it’s like you read my mind. I just contacted a breeder this morning for 20 yellow neos and was starting to second guess the amount since they would be going in a 7.5 gallon. Thanks for the info

I just got lucky. I bought 2 red cherry shrimps 4 months ago to, you know just to add variety in my 20 gal platy giurami tetra tank. I never expected or intended to breed them, And now as of this writing I now count 8 of them hiding in plants and java moss.

So helpful! Ive been worried about my two 10gallon tanks and my 5 gallon tank that are just exploding with shrimp. Ive got one 10 gallon just for culling the cherry and golden back colonies and the cull tank is multiplying too. I was worried I would have to trade them soon at a fish store for credit or something. Thank you! I will keep my happy little shrimps

Thank you, I mean "Tank U"! Someone left a 3.5 gal bow front in the mail room and I set it up with live java fern, small driftwood and moss balls with a sponge filter 2 months ago for my 1st venture into shrimp keeping. No heater. I'm buying 10 blue dreams from Las Vegas Exotics thru Amazon for $21 based on the great reviews. You will be my shrimp mentor! Q: Can I cull the extras into my large blood parrot tank? Their mouths are small and I only have a schools of albino cory and white skirts w/them? Lots of cover plants, amethyst chunks and driftwood there. Peaceful Tank.

Hello from the US! Neocardinias are the rabbits of the invertebrate world! Hahaha! I started with 16 red cherries in a 55 gal heavily planted community tank. Rummynose tetras, green neons, gold dwarf gouramies, Otocinclus, catfish, small plecos. I know I have over a thousand shrimp in there. Seems no danger from too many babies being picked off. It’s quite the nice community mash up😁
I have sponge filters and a hob filter on that tank. Even with sponge cover on the hob intake tube….wouldn’t ya know I found 3 doz teeny tiny shrimpletts in the reservoir! Those guys all went into a 2 gal glass jar loaded with Java moss. Guess I’ll soon be asking my lfs if they’ll take some shrimps in return for store credit….a sm business is born! 😆
Thank you for this video, and all your expertise, much appreciated! ☮❤🦐

Hi Richard, I have been struggling to keep my shrimp alive lately and I am wondering if it might be my water parameters. When I check them they come out ok, but I have been having problems with my tank water being greenish. I think this is from an algae bloom. Can this be a problem for shrimp?

HI Richard, I have a question for you today. How many shrimp can i keep in my 5 gallon aquarium? =p Such a great video answering this question. i think i've had 300 in a 5 gallon before, but a friend told me, once it's past 100, it's just a random guess afterwards, unless you pick out each shrimp to count them one by one. great video!

Shrimps really are amazing. It felt so strange in the beginning that it could be possible to have so many in such a small tank, but I tried anyways, and kept talking to people knowing more than me and now I'm comfortable with my red cherryshrimps. And, soon I will have new shrimp as well! :D
A few days ago I bought a new aquarium, the previous owner felt like it wasn't possible to handle it anymore, so I got everything including the fish and a lot of snails. Since none of them are really "my type" and they also are too few at the moment, I decided to find new homes for them (or, I do plan to keep one I think. Haven't decided yet). One person said that we could swap. He will take some of the snails I have, and he will give me some new neocaridina! That will be fantastic and I'm really looking forward to that.

if you start with less shrimp and give them time to start breeding you will also know that the conditions in your tank are ok.

I think the question isn’t how many you start with but rather what’s the maximum number of shrimp per gal/L before you need to upgrade tanks/sell/swap/cull before the population becomes detrimental to the shrimp’s QOL.

Do you ship to the USA? I’ve been watching you for some time and I would like to purchase your shrimp. If you don’t sell could you please refer me to someone who is a breeder and not a reseller. I’m having a lot of trouble finding reputable breeders here in the U.S. They will not answer basic questions, then when you order you just get what you get ( they refuse to sex the shrimp). Thank you for your channel and all your advice and I’ve learned so much from it. I’ve had aquariums for 40 yrs but have only been into the shrimp for three years. All the tips that you advice when dealing with a seller - (key questions). All EBayers I have delt with to date, refuse to sex the shrimp to ensure I receive breedable brood stock. So any of the tips you advise - I have not been able to apply so far. This tells me that all the dealers I have dealt with are resellers and not breeders. Thank you for your time.

I've been keeping fish for 20 plus years. 125 gallon is crystal clear. Everybody's alive always!
I recently a few months back have been trying To keep some shrimp alive in a 20 gallon. All natural planted tank, few pieces of wood. All parameters are correct. Water temperatures are correct. No anything harmful in it. Every time I get some they die couple days to a week. Cannot keep shrimp alive? Pretty frustrating and about to give up the tank looks great that like I said I cannot keep them alive. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've read everything I can read. Like I said, all the parameters are correct I've watched. I don't know how many of your videos. I understand them Still can't keep him alive. Any suggestions whatsoever?
