If you guys are afraid of bringing a knife anywhere near your steels to get the covers off, i've found that you can actually slide a plastic credit card (I use a Best buy gift card b/c of its shape) in between the plastic and metal and it will simply pop apart if you slide it across the panel.
Recently I bought the batman vs superman's steelbook with the cover made by jim lee, its like a comic style, and the plastic part, it came upside down, so your video will help me to change it, thank you so much
I have done a lot of woodburning art. Hilariously, I have always loved steel books but never thought I could get it done without spending a lot of cash, resources, etc. Now I am interested in creating artwork on steel books today.
Wow! The cover art itself was what caused me to choose to order the French Batman Steelbook rather than that one, and seeing that the inside is totally bereft of artwork makes me even gladder I did! And to top it all off, it cost less than some places sell the U.S. version for, and the same amount as the places with the lowest price among the bigger companies.
So, I’m using the template you have linked and the latest version of the gimp photo editing software, but I’m having issues printing. It automatically defaults to a much smaller size. I can enlarge it in the settings, but I don’t know exactly what dimensions I need to be using to get the right size printout. Do you know the printed width & height? Also, what size paper do you recommend?
Great video. But why is the template so low resolution? My printer kept printing at a very small scale. I had to increase the size of the image and template.
I was just thinking the same thing. It's a very small scale. You shouldn't have to UPSCALE to print. It's better to start from the actual size. I'm looking for a proper template but don't see one to download anywhere.
I used a steamer to remove the spine, do you know where I can buy the enteral plastic part. Let’s say i have more then one Blu-ray’s that I would like to store in the Steelbook.
Definitely been thinking about and keen to do this but I'm still not sold on or feeling comfortable with the spine part. I'm thinking maybe just sticking the printed spine bare & directly on the inside on top of the plastic or even laminating the spine and then stick it directly on the inside.
i did the steps you showed within the video however when i exported the image it didn't save it as it would into the template form. it just saved as if it was a regular image from the original. how do i solve this issue? im using a mac os.
I was EXTREMELY careful to follow people's instructions exactly, and even more careful in the execution of this, and nonetheless, the spine wound up being cut and there was absolutely no way for the X-acto knife to have gotten any higher toward the spine label. Is there any possibility that there are Steelbooks that are made slightly differently that have the spine fused to the plastic? BTW, it was a Steve Austin Collection 4-disc Steelbook that I was taking apart to use the 4-disc plastic for something else, if that helps to possibly identify some exception.
I've never heard of a 4 disc steelbook. If its thicker I can only think that the spine has more adhesive so it's harder. The only thing you can do is make sure its heated and keep the blade straight and angled towards the metal spine.
@@YourMovieFix It turns out I was underestimating how closely you have to look at the thing, as I don't tend to think my near vision is all that bad with contacts, but apparently it isn't anywhere near as good as that of those of you making these tutorials, as I did go back and get it off after putting forth quite a bit of effort toward even managing to slip the blade under the label alone. Once I did get the blade into the right space, it slid through extremely easily even around a half hour after originally being heated. Hopefully the super glue works for repairing the spine itself.
I cannot get this to save with the transparent background for the cutouts. It looks correct in gimp and I export to png but it comes out solid everytime. What can I do?
Jordan Hoover I could send you a picture when I'm home, but it looks the same as new. You gotta try quite hard to mess up the exterior of the spine haha
Thats cool I saw another video and it looks ok afterwards. You dont need to email it. Im having a hard time now when I print the image from the template. After i export it comes out too small on paper. Any ideas?
Hey! I like steel-books but not the disc holder inside, is it possible to remove it and replace it with the standard press release? I always get worried I'm going to break the disc when I take them out of a steel-book.
Dustin Caldwell Not really, not without an entirely new case made to fit the metal panels. I know what you mean though, they can be a pain. Just press it in, it'll be fine :]
Exported the image, didn’t save it in template form. Just saved it as original picture and the print dimensions for the template are off. Every print comes out ~40% smaller…. nice.
I was having issues with the image size being off when printing. What solved it for me was not printing from GIMP or the Windows Photo App, but printing it from Paint 3D.
Dizyland well yeah I know that but the over all steelbook is a disappointment. What I’m sayin is I can put a picture of Thor arriving In wakanda or thanos throwing a moon at ironman over the art work

Does it work for the spine
@@SoapNugget After waving a Hairdryer over it for a Few Minutes and being careful in removing it then Yes.

I did it with the IT 1990 Steelbook and although I used normal paper it looks pretty good
Thanks Tyler! Took a minute to find good pics & perfect printing but I think my result may even be better than the factory steelbook inlay.
Try using a roto-trim for cutting paper, they are expensive but gives you much more accurate cuts
This changed my life thank you!!!!
Film Fancy Glad I could help!
Hey,I love your court mask
That's dope I'm definitely doing this to some of my steelbooks
Awesome video man big thanks. I hate when the inside is blank. Looks bootleg.

It sounds like you need to change your printer settings.
For the love of ZOD lay your Steelbooks down on a cloth. It is very easy to create hairline scratches on the edges.
FILMinformer84 , same thing I was thinking, damn!

Just doing that part is very easy, and can add a lot to it
Try it with 2-3 cheap ass steels that you buy second hand.
Very impressive! I’m about upgrade some steelbooks! Thanks!
I’m gonna have to do this to my HMV exclusive Drive Steelbook
Wow looks professional 🤯👌✨

Same
Of course, the most important part is the cup of coffee.
Now to print some kind of custom booklet with information about the movie to put where video game manuals would usually go :)
@@DreadfulUtopia Would be dope if more collectors versions of movies did this sort of thing.
why is my art coming out smaller than the pixles are when i save it

Would the same thing work on the cover of the steel book?
No the fronts engraved

Just regular
I wish you showed the exterior spine after you finished. I am apprehensive to do this cause I dont want to mess up the spine. Otherwise very cool!

ok I got it to work! I right clicked on the picture and printed from there.
Help me replace front and side panels
Great tutorial but that link doesn’t get me to the template. It just brings you to the Imgur website
The link works for me. It will appear like a blank/black image, drag it to your desktop, it will be the correct template.
YourMovieFix Thank you!

YourMovieFix thanks anyways mate! should be good.
that's an awesome video but you're right, not so confident about the middle part lol
Does the adhesive on the spine harden again to form a good seal?
I've had mostly good success with it but I advise strengthening with another way also.
Cheers. I’ve not been brave enough to try messing with the spine just yet. I might buy a cheap one and practice on that in the near Ks for the video.

Great video men!!!
Nothing works for me. The box template and the scale....
Holy crap. My spiderman steelbook turned out incredible.
Good to know! Wish I could see
great job, thanx a lot
Are the inside the same size of the outside?
Slightly smaller than outside
Nice
thanks for the tutorial 👍
Why doesn't this work for my Terminator 2 Steelbook
Did everything but when I print, the image is coming out smaller than yours? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong
same here too
Anoyone find a fix for this? Running into the same problem

Hey man. I need this template. Can't open it in photobucket
Try the new link in description!
Got it. Thank you
The height on this is wrong. The image appears too large to fit in any steelbook
Amazing!

Great video I just subscribe to your channel. 👍
yay tyler
nvm i figured it out
How? I'm having this same issue
You had me... then You lost me at your stove. NOPE. Some of my artless steelbooks are worth too much to do this
I cant say I blame you. I've dropped some good money on steels. But usually it's the cheaper and common ones without art inside anyway.
Wave a Hairdryer (at the Hottest Setting) over the Spine for a few Minutes instead before removing.
If its not from the factory it's OH, HELL NO!
Noooo you are doing it so wrong my friend, it’s much easier to open :)
By all means, share!
