  • Today we're taking a look at one of the hottest point and shoot cameras on the market! Despite being four years old, the GRiii still punches way above its weight class. These are my thoughts after 16 months of use!
    HUGE shoutout to ‪@JustusStew‬ for sending me some of his BANGER GRiii images from Detroit🙏🏼

    The GR has a cast magnesium chassis which is both light and tough. It may feel frail due to the lightness but should be able to stand everyday knocks unless the lens takes a hit. Maybe it has, as I've not read about the sticking lens covers. I have that 3 petal cover on my Lumix LX7 and it works well. Detachable lens covers are a pain!

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct about the body material! I think the cheaper feel for me comes in the "fit and finish" of the GR compared to other bodies i've used. The buttons have more "play" and can sometimes be a little less tactile, and I now am super paranoid about the lens assembly with my example. All that to say, despite these things I absolutely love this little thing and its a hoot to shoot with. And the image quality punches WAY above its weight! Thank you so much for the support🙏🏼

      I’ve banged mine a few times and there, just little knocks as it swings on my wrist each day. I adore my GRiii X, I’m happy to work around some of the little floors for the major upsides it gives me. It fits neatly in my pocket and takes amazing images. I cannot complain about this camera

    Hey, I just had your video recommended to me as I also own a Ricoh GR III and you said you're suffering from the scroll wheel issue. I had the same issue and it's an easy fix. Take out the battery, then apply a few drops of contact spray around the scroll wheel. Turn it in both directions a few times, wait for everything to dry up, then you can put the battery back in and give it a try. The scroll wheel should work as expected again. The most common cause for this are finger residues leaving dirt on the contacts. Hope this helps :)

      Hey thanks for the advice! I knew it was a common issue I just had no direction as far as a possible fix. Thanks for the support🙏🏼

    I want to get this camera so bad, however untill they come out with a next generation with better build quality and hopefully a bit of weather sealing/dust resistance I can't commit to it. I also think not having a flash on this camera is a big missed opportunity

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could definitely benefit from a few form factor upgrades but the image is why i'm in love with it! Funny you mention the missing flash, until very recently I have not considered built in flash as a great thing, but my yashica point and shoot will sometimes surprise me with its flash and I dig the results haha
      Thanks for the support!🙏🏼

    I would like to thank you not just for the video, but for the lens cover that I saw on your camera. I think it is a great add on to protect against dust etc. I even made a video about some other jjc accessory, but this one looks better

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed the video! I do believe i'll keep this cover even after I resolve my lens assembly issue. It gives another layer of protection. Thanks for the support!🙏🏼

    I dropped this camera in a 7-11 parking lot and it came out unscathed. Great little camera, I've shot a lot of POV videos with it. A great go to.

    @Garrett Ware. Heads up my guy, if you spin your thumb wheel while it's turned off for maybe 60 -120 seconds it will fix the menu scroll jumping as it re establishes the contacts again.

    Great review. I have an old X-T2 with a telephoto lens. I was wanting to upgrade because a) the batter life is terrible b) I need a wide angle AF lens. I've thought about getting a XF27mm (really sharp lens) and keep the body, but then I have to deal with the battery drain. I've also considered the GR III but it sounds like it has a huge battery drain as well. Then there's options like a X-T30 II or X-S20 body with a sharp prime. I just can't decide what to do. I'm not a fan of the X100 line (to me the images are too soft), the GR III by comparison seems to produce better sharp detailed shots than the X100 lineup.

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're looking for a great hybrid option for the money, i've heard nothing but GREAt things about the X-S20! The thing is loaded with photo and video features that would make for a fun carry option.
      Thanks for the support!🙏🏼

    I've got the Fujifilm xf10 for several years now, and I love it more and more. It's very similar to the Ricoh. It's sometimes hard to operate as it only makes sens in full manual, but that makes it a special experience too.

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Listen, I've told people everywhere that it's hard to find a camera from Fuji that isn't a homerun in some way shape or fashion. The XF10 is a small little killer of a camera! Thanks for the support🙏🏼

    • @GarrettWare
      @GarrettWare  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I "think" there are a couple of 3rd party EVF options for the GR! I definitely understand the screen being a bit dim at times.

    Nice review my doubt is does it outperform the best camera phones in the market like the iPhone 15 pro max and the Samsung ultra in terms of image quality, colour science and white balance, etc?

    • @newblor
      @newblor 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it does. By a mile. Phone cameras will always be limited by a tiny lens and a miniscule sensor (a tiny fraction of the size of APS-C). Forget the MP count. Phones use a lot more computation in their images to resolve that lack of quality due to the small camera. But if you only use or view photos on a phone or tablet you don't need the GR III.

    Regarding batteries …. Always buy OEM, never purchase a ‘rip-off’ battery! Remember the adage ….. “Buy cheap, pay twice!”
    Reason for a small form-factor …. It’s an EDC - designed on every day carry principles!
    Larger the camera - it will stay in your bag more often! Simples!

    Had it for a while and loved it for its size and image quality. However, I had so many issues with mine (scroll wheel, sensor dust and a few other things) that I finally got rid of it.
    I'm now shooting a Leica M10M (which I had to send in for repair as well) and a 6D Mark I (which has been fine so far).
    What I'm missing is a small, simple AND reliable digital camera like we had a few in the film days.
    Any suggestions?

      @@GarrettWare I've been looking for Xe4's but kits are hard to find since they got discontinued. They used to ship with a XF 27mm, which looks like an amazing lens. That combo I think (personally) is better than a X100V/VI in terms of image quality. Maybe I'll find a kit somewhere.
