TAS is tool assisted runs, so some are maybe already using it, but they're already using frame perfect inputs, so a .25 speed difference doesn't affect tas runs, because there are something like 40 or maybe even 100 frames a second, depending on what the game was built on. But when every one of those is perfect, .25 of the normal speed, is absolutely nothing compared to the speed difference between tas and .25 slowed runs.
@@RS-fy9hb Pretty sure TAS produce "valid" runs, meaning the tools that originally unearthed the slowdown-cheated runs would have no issue taking TAS runs and reproducing an actually finishing run in Track Mania at the regular speed. In fact, that's pretty much exactly what these TAS runs are, right? Effectively a long list of instructions much like the ones that players upload to have their runs verified. The whole thing came crashing down precisely because, at quarter speed, these runs no longer check out. Because you get to change the state of your car four times as often, and if you mapped those same instructions to a regular speed run, errors would creep in and, eventually, make the car drive off the supposed route or whatever. So I think, at least *in principle,* it *could* make a difference for TAS runs as well. Especially for ones on the longer side. Like, they could potentially save up to three quarters of a frame on every single maneuver. Of course it won't *actually* be that long, as most of the time on your average track is gonna be setup (such as "gain enough speed") rather than actual execution differences.
