This was an experimental, but very good video. I've been trying to figure out what exactly it is about this sort of comedy that turns people off, and I think I've got part of it. There's this severe desperation (or hard-on, I'm not sure which term is more fitting) from the writers on Amy Schumer's show and far too many other pieces of media to name, to get social commentary across to the viewers about society at large, so they can appear smart AND funny. Emphasis on "appear".
But that's where the problems rear their heads. The commentary about issues that should be obvious to the audience has the subtlety of anvils being dropped out of an inflight airplane, so it becomes more condescending than anything else, making you feel like you're being lectured at. The message is prioritized above humor, and it results in a sore lack of playfulness missing from the comedy that ends up making it a chore to sit through. At worst, it feels like the writers were simply very angry. An American Carol is an extreme example of this, and it is MISERABLE. The writers pick the same easy targets you would see from the average, hyperaware Twitter user, so this makes the writing feel like it was no different from a popular tweet you could read on the site. Or it results in screencaps of said moments on the show, almost like it was geared towards that. And on top of that, this shit has become so accepted and ubiquitous across many forms of media, that it understandably becomes a deal-breaker and a red flag for a lot of people So when writing like this elicits a "Who is this even for?!" from people, it's because it gives off the essence of writers smugly patting themselves on their backs, because they made something that was geared far less towards the audience, and far more towards themselves.
I think it's virtue signaling in the most dictionary definition version of the term. the sketches are thinly veiled versions of "this is the thing we believe in." But the problem is that they were too nervous to make a real statement about anything. I think they were genuinely worried about triggering or upsetting people. So they didn't take any chances.
They're paid to make propaganda. In Amy's case, she still has the desperation from the adoration of strangers that all comedians have. She wants to be "honest" but knows that she's only allowed to have the narrow views that she pretends to have. Propaganda kills authenticity, and authenticity is required for comedy about one's worldview to work. The NPC meme perfectly lays bare why this shit will never be funny. The creepy borg-like state of the modern left is inhuman and chilling.
I'm pretty sure the "Thing that turns black people white when police are around" bit was also done by either Chappelle or Chris Rock at some point... They also did that joke in the second "Men In Black" movie. All these years later, Amy still steals jokes and then butchers them.
I this format because it means more content; your general insights on things are interesting and entertaining, as well as nice to listen to as background noise while reading.

The show feels like Amy has realized that abandoning her comedic principals years ago in favor of becoming a Showbiz Political Pawn hasn't actually worked out in the long run. Instead she is now trying to tap back into the Socially Liberal Moderates that make up the vast majority of the comedy fan base. Except she's too compromised and is still hiring hyper progressive alt comedy writers instead of using established and respected comedians she was friends with like she did in season 1. Overall she's a living cautionary tale about bending to Showbiz producers instead of focusing on your talent. Something we should have learned with that now blacklisted fat chick in Precious.

The show feels like Amy has realized that abandoning her comedic principals years ago in favor of becoming a Showbiz Political Pawn hasn't actually worked out in the long run. Instead she is now trying to tap back into the Socially Liberal Moderates that make up the vast majority of the comedy fan base. Except she's too compromised and is still hiring hyper progressive alt comedy writers instead of using established and respected comedians she was friends with like she did in season 1. Overall she's a living cautionary tale about bending to Showbiz producers instead of focusing on your talent. Something we should have learned with that now blacklisted fat chick in Precious.
