      Break in the damn gun, and you'll notice those problems go away.
      The magazines are quality and obviously aren't manufactured with weak springs.
      They are reliable magazines when broken in, and in my experience the springs even last longer.

    I picked up a SS Carry with the rail for $400 used. I compared it to the Kimber, Springfield Ronin/Garrison, Sig and Ruger in the case. All forged plus the ambidextrous safety, under cut, 3 dot Novak style sights, beveled mag well, scalloped slide,beaver tail, skeletal hammer/ trigger and fit.... no brainer for me. At the range it handled 25 hollow points of unknown weights I found on the ground 20 years ago when I qualified on a state range (DPS was still using P220's). The Carry ate them with gusto! I shot 200 rounds of 230 grn S&B without a stoppage too. I'm thrilled. I'm not a big 1911 guy but this gun and caliber are an excellent change from my Glocks.

    My thoughts on this gun. If it works for you, fantastic. Too many people get hung up on more expensive guns. I have an RIA EFS that is more reliable and has more upgrades than my Kimber. Glad you enjoy it. Don't be ashamed of paying less for a quality gun.

    I bought the full size version of this pistol and absolutely love it! The first few rounds from the factory mags were however a disappointment....they use a somewhat wonky spring design that allows the spring tension to cause the first few rounds to "nose dive" and catch the front of the magazine with some ammo.
    After discovering the issue and switching to Wilson mags there hasn't been a single failure....and after polishing the fed ramp, she even feeds empty cases.
    Very hard to beat this pistol for the money IMHO....

      I just tried this with my factory mag with my Tisas when I watched the video. It seems that with 7 rounds of ammo in the mag it chambers fine, but with a full 8 there's an issue where it just doesn't catch at all (gun doesn't even get jammed, the bullet just stays there). A bit strange, but I'm gonna buy a Wilson mag and try out my different bullets I have to see if that would fix it.

    I now own a Tisas 1911A1 and a Tank Commander 9. I own 6 1911's from custom 45 IDPA Stock Class pistols to a Gold Cup, a 5" 38 Super and a 10mm Delta Elite and the 2 Tisas pistols hold their own against them very well. I CCW the Tank Commander and shoot it the most with the 5" 38 Super a close second. Nice part is I bought both Tisas 1911's for under $400 each and they both shoot very tight with no malfunctions. For the money IMHO you can't do any better especially considering the forged frame and slide and hammer forged barrel. Both are tack drivers, way better than the Gold Cup and the Delta and the 9mm Commander just rocks, hip shooting beer cans around the yard is a breeze.

  • @tpelle2
    @tpelle2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm going to be getting a distribution from a company pension plan (I'm retired now) next month, and presuming I can find one in stock, I'm going to pick one of these up. I'm probably going to go for the black Ceracoated version in 5". I already have holsters, etc. for 5" 1911s. I will most likely change the trigger to a short trigger as is on their G.I. model, and put an arched mainspring housing on it because 911s point better for that way.
    I run all of my 1911s on Checkmate magazines, and they can be ordered in all three feed ramp configurations. 1911 magazines, at least the "traditional" ones that support the controlled round feed that was a feature of the 911 design, are made in three feed ramp configurations, ball, wadcutter, and hybrid ramps. Ball mags feed the 230 grain FMJ rounds perfectly (That's what the gun was designed for....because that's all there was in 1911.). Wadcutter ramps were designed for target shooting, of course, with wadcutter ammo. The hybrid mags are a compromise between the previous two, but seem to work good for JHP ammo. All of the one-size-fits-all mags are a compromise, and SOMETIMES, depending on the design, fit, and finish of the pistol, can result in the occasional failure-to-feed - even the vaunted Wilson 47D mags.
    Also, if you look at an original mil-spec 1911 magazine, you will see a "dimple" on the center of the feed ramp. That little dimple was designed to catch the case mouth on the seventh round (from a seven round magazine) and prevent it from being dragged forward when the sixth round was being fed. This happened because, as the gun was fired, the magazine spring became less and less compressed and hence had a less-tight grip on the cartridges, as the rounds were fed.
    99% of the time, if you have ANY feed issues with a 1911, it's either ammo or, usually if using known good ammo (And why would you use anything but?) it's an unhappy magazine trying to do something it wasn't made for.

  • @templarplays7458
    @templarplays7458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This video has brought to my attention that I should indeed be using FMJ's to break the gun in. As I too have found out with this gun, that with it being brand new and there having been no bullets fired from it. It had several jamming malfunctions with the Hornady Critical Defense rounds I had loaded into the magazine. Good quality ammo so I knew it must be the gun. Ever since I began using FMJ's in it. The action of both loading and firing the gun has become smoother with less and less room for malfunction! This is great advice that you won't hear just anywhere; take it. Happy Shooting Fellas!!!

      @@mpngreen3897 I currently use it for everyday carry myself, but make no mistake. This is still a 1911 and is a fairly large handgun considering other more concealable options. I personally use a shoulder or hip holster to carry mine as it makes for a more comfortable carry. I can recommend it for its amazing reliability and it has a good bit of heft to it. Fits easy if you have large hands and handles recoil like a champ. If you're looking to carry a 1911. This is the model and brand I can recommend with absolute certainty. Just keep it clean and use some gun oil to loosen her up a bit and she'll be your absolute favorite gun you own. Thats a guarantee! This is why I run the ammo Inc X-defcause it runs between 940 to 950fps and they have a very conical shape, which means that's if any jhp will run, they will!!! I put my tisas ss45 duty on the counter next to several kimbers, and the only difference, was the kimbers had slightly better triggers, but they weren't any tighter or better fitted, and I've had kimber owners that thought the tisas of mine was just as nice as their kimbers, and couldn't believe that such a nice gun that had a forged frame was only $589.99 in the time of covid!!! IF my sights are perfectly regulated...That DEAD ON {POINT BLANK} distance is roughly the MAXIMUM distance I should plan or intend to shoot at a target or animal. Some folks prefer 25, 50, 75, or 100 meters {or yards}.... for reasons of their own. I might not prefer allow the critter to be that close. IF I start to engage a charging Bear, Wolf, or Cougar at 200 or 150 Yards.... I allow myself more time to connect and more time to throw enough lead to stop the threat.*

I am not a fan of 1911's either, this is the first one I have owned. I have shot my freinds and have not liked them very much. They put grips on them that I do not like is the reason. I like the standard grip. If you want to get into a 1911, this might be a good choice. I have only had this pistol for a week and only had the time to put 50 or so rounds through it, but I can see the potential. This is from a person who did not like them his whole life. The problem I have with the 1911 is, the fact that there is a "break in" period. I love the 1911, but there are no break in periods on Glock's or S&W's or Ruger. I always polish the feed ramps first. It seems weather it's a high end 1911 or low end, they always say "break in period". I thinks if you spend money on a pistol, it should work right out of the box. I know, it's moving parts and sometimes they don't always work. But still. The Glock pistols that I have had. always worked from the first shot and on and on. No break in period. Ever. I just got the Tisas 1911 Carry model of Commander model and will be shooting it this week. But I will give the feed ramp a polish and touch up. Not a fan of the "break in period". But I still love the 1911. Battle proven.

      Think about the age of the design. It's a true classic that's been around for over a hundred years. They're great guns but do require more attention than many of the modern designs.

    • @Wildwestwrangler
      @Wildwestwrangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's silly to get torqued about a break in period especially on a gun that's all metal!!! The difference in every other gun you mentioned is a polymer frame which flexes and gives, and almost none of those have full length slide rails. Which makes 1911s very rigid, but the fact of the matter is metal to metal doesn't flex around itself like polymer does.

    • @DATRATMANZ
      @DATRATMANZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1911 was designed for ball ammo and military use. It has a control feed system unlike Glock or any other modern firearms. When people try to feed in anything but ball ammo and different kinds of rounds before the break in period they start to have problems. If you want to run all sorts of crazy rounds I guess the 1911 isn't for you unless your willing to spend a lot of money on an expensive one.
      Or it seems that this problem can be alleviated by purchasing new magazines such as the Wilson Combat mags that have different feed lips to correct the issue where the bullets tend to dive and cause a jam.

      I've regularly carried a full sized 1911 as well as carried this. The extra length won't make any real difference in accuracy at defensive distances. Make sure the gun has been broken in and is reliable with defensive loads before you risk your life on it.

    @Sandhill1988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not saying that the pistol doesn't need some kind of a break-in or wear in period That's natural and I agree with you on that point. But the main reason why it functioned properly with the jacketed hollow points is because they're a hotter round for defense, it created more energy for the slide to cycle. I also would disagree with trying to handcycle rounds through a weapon to test for function ( on your last video) first it's unsafe second you have to shoot it to see what it's actually going to do under live fire conditions. Debur and polish the feed ramps and get rid of those junk magazines that came with it that's a beginning. Wilson Combat is all I will trust unless you're talking about range magazines. But even still if you have inferior range magazines and you're getting stovepipe's like that it kind of sucks the wind out of your sails, especially knowing you were trying to cheap out on your magazines. Invest in quality magazine and you'll be running 100%, Installing an 18.5 lb recoil spring and matching firing pin spring (Wolf gun springs) will help improve overall function also, it will cushion slide to frame impact and allow the slide it to go into battery with authority. In closing that's not a bad budget 1911, but I have to admit and I don't mean any offense by this but it's got a chintzy appearance to it. What was it was like 400 ish maybe for that thing???? I'm considering another 1911 and actually did look at this one, done some research on them and I've decided that I'm going to go most likely with either a Kimber stainless II or a non railed Taurus in stainless. Also considered a Metro arms) I think the Kimber is about $100 more than the Taurus maybe $75 so when Taurus was about 550 for the same weapon I'd say that would justify not buying the Kimber but for the small price differential nowadays you might as well cough up the extra bucks and get the Kimber. The Turks make some really fine weapons but as far as budget 1911's go the Filipinos got them beat by a mile.

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, both the hollow points and the FMJs are 230 grain and virtually identical in every way. Virtually all 1911 manufacturers recommend at least 500 rounds through the gun for break in.
