Hello Mathew and Merry Christmas. Always enjoy your videos here in Canada. I've had an Australian species orchid for about 25 yrs now, a cymbidium Maddidum. But flowering has always been a hit or a miss, unfortunately, and it's hard to find any information on this plant. But i keep trying. Take care and have a great New Year.
Oh interesting! It's native to very wet tropical areas so will love moisture, humidity and heat! Not one I could grow unfortunately! Congratulations on getting it to flower....even occasionally!
Good haul Matthew. Regarding Cattleya walkeriana, the flowering spikes come from the base of the pseudobulb as a separate growth, rather than from the apex. The shortest of those growths could be a flower spike. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Have just caught the Orchid bug after being a long time carnivorous plant enthusiast. I’m also in Melbourne and your videos have been super helpful. :) Happy festive season!
I'm very new to Orchid growing from south east Melbourne. Could you please do a vedio of how you keep your Orchid in your home, actual location for summer & and winter? Thanks
Matthew you are a true orchid enabler! I ordered 8 Sarcochilus last time you featured them. I hadn't checked this website for a while and lucky me they did have some still advertised. I've just ordered 7 Sarcochilus! I knew I had to order now because they wouldn't last too long on their website but was concerned about delivery with it being so close to Christmas. Thankfully Clive has thought about this and in an email he explained packing and posting would take place in the new year. One of them has the name of my Granddaughter so that plant was definitely going to be mine!
Rosella Orchids can ship to Tas and WA, they have the certs. I totally have the website open as I am watching this and have a wishlist of orchids I want to get from them. Rosella Orchids do sell freebies or refund if the postage is less then their base rate. With my cattleyas, I don't really water over winter as Im not really watering my Aussie dens outside winter rains, but Im up in Sydney and I do get frost and if its raining there is no frost. They stay dry and dont show any dehydration. I need to get more of those squat pots. my den spec pedunculatum needs shorter pots vs my other den specs
Hi Matthew, nice haul! Regarding Cattleya walkeriana, it doesn't bloom from normal pseudobulbs, but instead produces modified shoots with no leaves that bear the flowers. So don't be discouraged if those shoots don't bloom!
Hi Matthew, your cymbidium could be Hiroshima Sweet Eyes 'Pink Temptation'. Love your videos they are very informative and relaxing - growing in Sydney.
@@helloplantlovers Hi Matthew, I couldn’t believe it when I saw your no ID cymbidium. I recently bought C. Hiroshima Sweet Eyes ‘Moanoko’ and it looks very similar. I agree with the others on what you have. I can’t believe this cymbidium is in flower in opposite seasons. Summer for you. Winter for me. Enjoy all of these new orchids!
@helloplantlovers Matthew, you may want to do some extra editing on this video as we can read your address on the first box you showed. I love all your videos, we don't want you getting carried off in the night
Hi Matthew, great haul. I don’t own any orchids, but I want to buy some soon. Do you have any online recommendations to learn more about orchid basics, I’m a total newbie. Thank you.
There are plenty of TH-cam channels - really depends what your conditions and climate are as to which one is most suitable. You can also check out www.aos.org/ which has great information and this great selection of articles on just about every genera: oscov.asn.au/articles-resources/ Good luck!

Ah I think you're right! And a local grower has it on their site so it could have come from them - great detective work - thank you!
I agree with Hiroshima Sweet Eyes ‘Pink Temptation’. It was one of my first ever cymbidiums, I have had it for years. 😊

There goes this week’s housekeeping (money) then !
Totally! Thanks for watching!
Oncsa = Oncidesa (Oncidium x Gomesa), reasonably sure Possum Wolf is an Onc. sotoanum hybrid so probably nicely fragrant.
There we are! We'll await with bated breath! Thanks for watching!
How did you know these plants were cool growing?
By researching them.

Oh it is Matthew, but orchids are not my bag.
