- I seldom know how a piece will turn out before I start but this one was right on the money! I did everything right with this live edge bowl and I love how it finished up. Just like I planned it! Finished in shellac.

I love your advice on taking it easy and going slow. You really have to allow the piece tell you where to go and patience is needed to hear what the wood is telling you.
Absolutely!! 😊
I like your commentary during the process of turning. You asked if anyone see's anything in this piece. Nothing jumps out of this one but the sheer beauty of the wood.
Cool, that works, thanks, Chris! 😊
Phil I like your holly bowli like watching you , I thank you are a very kind parson. Think you for Entertaining this old man for so long
Let's keep it going for a looong time to come, Henry! 😊

Holly-Wood, Holly-Wood: perfect metaphor for La-La land, Uncle Phil ❣️👍✌️
Sure enough, Dwayne! 😊
thanks Phil, you and I share a love for bark and wonderful odd shapes.... another beautiful piece....
😀
I'm enjoying your videos more and more Phil, like me you see beauty in the natural wood and then preserve that beauty and enhance for all to enjoy, thankyou, Neil.
Thank you so much, Neil! 😊
They are all art pieces to me. Nice job. Your home should be a museum by now.
Thank you, Greg! If a museum is crowded and dusty, my home qualifies! 😊
I wish you were my next door neighbor. I’m sure you’d get tired of me hanging out watching. You have a wonderful talent and thank you for sharing. God Bless.
Thank you! 😊
You're right, the back is beautiful! I told you how I like the back decorated. It's just a great style...💕
I agree, Sandy! 😊
Thanks Phil another amazing piece. 👍👍👍
😊
I think I like it standing up Phil. Just gorgeous
😀
Hard to believe that you managed to turn such a decorative piece of artwork of that shallow slice of wood. Well done, Phil!
Thanks, Stefan! 😊
Thank you Phil for your safety comment about standing in front of the turning. Those that know will not be offended. Those that are new to turning may learn before they get hurt. Those who already know and choose to do so anyway, probably deserve to get what they get (sorry to be blunt).
Thank you so much, Doug! 😊
Thank you Phil. 😊 You have a wonderful imagination to visualize what will happen if. . . It partially comes with experience, the rest with patience. Beautiful 😍 work.
😊
Thanks, Phil I will enjoy this "turning"
😊
Love the Holly-Wood Bowl!
😊
At first glance I wasn't impressed with the piece but as you turned it around and sat it on end I thought "how cool is that!" I really like it! Great job as usual.
Thank you very much, Tom! 😊
a family show indeed!
😊
Love the surprise! Thanks Phil!
Cool, thanks, Jay! 😊
I love your channel. In this time of political, financial and social unrest you consistently put out interesting videos about creating beautiful art. I wish we all had an outlet like you but then one of my outlets is watching your videos. Keep up the good work. Thank You ! It looks like a smaller snail following a larger snail
What a great comment, Scarlette, thank you so much! 😊
Now there is a piece of art, great job!👍🏻
Thank you so much, James! 😊
Really nice. At first I thought the piece was going to be too thin, but it came out great.
😊
I love it Phil. So many different ways to display it.
😀
Another wonderful turning. I'm so impressed.
Thanks for the instructions and ideas.
😊
Fantastic bowl Phil a real art piece. There is nothing more beautiful than wood.
😀
My pleasure as usual, what a beautiful piece great work.
😊
The bark texture really makes the piece. Very nice Phil. 👍
Indeed, Jerry, thanks! 😊
The finish on that is just so beautiful! You can tell just by looking the finish feels like satin. At one point in the bark a saw an african tribal mask.
Cool, thanks, Sabrina! 😊
You work just impresses me more and more! Wish I did have someone to share it with. Thanks!!!
Thank you for taking your time to watch and comment, Mark! 😊
Man o Man that wood polishes up NICE!!!
Indeed! 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Valerie .. If I remember Valerie was the first wood supplier to your show and that is what started the (root) ball rolling for the rest of us. It truly amazes me how you can turn something interesting from such a thin piece of wood. I like this one and I look forward to your next one Phil..... TM
Correct, Tuffy! And I sent another batch of “ Phil” wood to him earlier this year in spite of Covid. He has enough now to keep him going for a long, long time!
@@valeriehenschel1590 If all this wood keeps Phil happy and working than it is positive and fun for all of us. Just look at what YOU started Valerie, HA. I do not think Phil ever thought his humble little show would turn into this big adventure for all of us?....TM
@@tuffymartinez Agreed, but do not blame it on me. I was just helping out another local Woodturner with some of my more than excess wood. I think Phil found his niche in the world of TH-cam woodturners. And his channel is not even monetized.
You are correct, Tuffy. Valerie showed up barely a month into my channel. I have her, you and so many others to thank for that as a result! Thank you for watching and commenting, buddy! 😊
THE finish looks really smooooooth.
It is! 😊
Awesome piece Phil. I like the idea of having the option to display it in several ways.
Right on, thanks! 😊
I liked the marks left by woodpecker in the bark of tree.
Me too, Ron! 😊
Beautiphil bowl Phil! Keep on keeping on! See ya next Thursday.
Thanks, Billy!
Prayers for you to heal soon enjoy the videos

Thank you, Michael! 😊
Thank You. Phil you do Amazing work
😀
Awesome! I'd stand it up and put a candle in front of it so it looked like a light reflector.
Great idea! 😊
Outstanding peace very beautiful love it Phil take care and God bless
Thank you, Mike!
Love it! The one part where you said you saw a head, I saw Mac Tonight, the creep Crescent Moon guy from the McDonald's commercials from way back when.
Another beautiful piece brought to us by Phil and the lovely wood pusher, Valerie.
Haha, thank you so much, Kathleen! 😃
4am here in RSA, and what a nice inspiration for the day. I won’t be able to get to my lathe for a couple of days, but can’t wait until I do. Thank you again for bringing out the beauty of nature. Looking at the bottom, if it was a plank, it would have been a boring piece of white wood, but working with nature, it now is a masterpiece.🥂
Thank you very much, Johan! You are an early riser! 😊
Very nice another great piece
Thank you! 😊 Cheers!
Beautiful piece. Thx for sharing
😀
On the bigger flat end it looks like a beautiful cactus 🌵. It's pretty cool, pretty perfect and oh yeah I'd love to have a feel of the finish
Thank you, Diane, I'll have another look for the cactus! 😊

I see a mitt/ mitten shape ♥️ beautiful piece and design.
Me too, Maddie! 😊
I think I saw what you saw, but I won't say it because it is a family show! It is beautiful!
Haha, thank you, Julee! 😊
Fantastic. You improve the wood. The bowl is coincidental. And as always you are intrepid in your turnings. Thank you for an insightful and entertaining look into your art.
So kind of you, Steve, thank you! 😊

Hey Phil, missed your usual intro -"Good morning, good afternoon...".
Good golly Miss Holly! I love the slit hole in the bowl. A good one Phil "for aaalll to enjoy". Thanks!
I don't know what happened, Kersi! I might have edited it out on accident or I might have forgotten to say it! I'm pretty old, ya know! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Yup, know what ya mean Phil. I'm in my mid seventies and empathize with you Sir. Thanks again for your videos AND presentation style.
Love this piece! Nice job.

Didn't think I'd like it but I was wrong looks great
Yay! Thanks, Robert! 😊
Can't throw that out, like the way you've decided it can stand up. Mam better keep an eye on her holly bush now. Big thumbs up.
Thanks for watching, Gary! 😊
Hey Phil, That is one cool bowl. Very beautiful. Im a country boy and I know a great deal about wood from having cut so much of it as a child and teen but until recently (about 9 months ago) I knew next to nothing about turning wood other than I had always wanted to do it. I started watching videos here on TH-cam. I learned to spindle turn from Dean at Dean's Woodworking after which I bought a lathe. Then I began to become interested in turning bowls. I watch Kent from Turn a Wood Bowl and Gary at ThePapa1947 and you and I have to say I have learned more from watchin your videos than anyone else. Thank you so very much. I wanted to turn wood ever since I was about 10 years old when my daddy took me to a craft fair with him and there was a guy there using a pedal lathe made from an old bicycle. I was amazed by what he could do and always wanted to do that ever since. Finally in my late 60's I am able to turn wood and make it beautiful again so it can live on and possibly be passed down as heirlooms from one generation to another. I try to watch 2 or 3 of your videos a day and I will eventually get through all of them. When I turn I try to do as good a job as you do and I am improving steadily. Thanks again for being such a good teacher and teaching this old man how to finally realize a childhood dream. Yall have a wonderful day.
Thanks for spending time with me, Allyn! 😊
This piece is really beautiful Phil and think it really deserves a standing place to display all its qualities, perhaps in front of a mirror to show its contrasts and delicate markings on the back, just a suggestion. You're a natural Phil, i think wood speaks to you in some way, as you can always turn something quite inconspicuous into something very remarkable. I love this piece and makes me happy that you're actually teaching others how to turn and think outside the box. You have many gifts and talents! Thank you, as always.💛😊
Thank you for your wonderful comment, Sian! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thank you, Phil, for sharing your wonderful gifts with all of us! 😊
That's awesome!
😊
I see a catcher's mitt Phil. You now need to turn a wooden baseball to go with it. Great job as always.
😀
Backside looks like a 1st baseman mitt. Nice job
It does!
Very pretty! Liked and shared.
Very appreciated, Nathan!
Holly crap that's nice!
Haha, thanks! 😊
Awesome skills
Thank you, Karen! 😊
I see a mitten Phil, what lovely piece!
Me too, Jane!
I thought the bowl side looked like a mitt. I felt it on my TV screen. It is very smooth indeed.
Haha, thanks for the chuckle, Craig! 😊
Beautiful piece. It reminds me of my childhood - my grandmother would always use pieces of gorgeous wood to create different scenes. Driftwood would be used as coastal scenes with small plastic birds and foliage, Douglas Fur and other style wood would have a more forest related theme. This would be ideal to create that kind of work of art on the mantel. Holly would have a more Christmas theme to it, I think, with Holly Berries and Ivy. :) Thank you for this memory. :)
Wonderful memories, Errolyn! 😊
I think this could look lovely with a piece of Oasis (for flower arranging) in the middle, holding a low-ish profile arrangement of miniature roses, and a scattering of small sea snail shells (e.g. winkles) around the edges.
Such creativity, Stephanie! 😀
This isn't the first time I've thought; "What on earth can Phil do with that piece?" and then you go ahead and show us. The faint silvery sheen on the bark and the smooth creamy wood look really grand together. Thank you to Valerie for sending and you for sharing and see you soon.
Thank you so much! 😊
Well ,another interesting piece Phil , 🤔. I like shiny. Good tips on this one for positioning. Look forward to your next one! Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it, Doug, thank you! 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil I'm amazed how you created anything out of such a thin piece of wood. I loved the colour of the turned Holly looked really nice. I thought I could see a hog's head as you held the piece up at the end of the video, with the snout in your right hand. At least I think it was your right hand ! Yes it was your right hand. See you next week.
Thanks, John, I'll have to go take another look at it! 😊
